Who were the ones you most enjoyed having in charge at the club. We can't compare achievements, due to different eras, budgets, expectations, squads and starting positions, but who diid just like having there AT THE TIME, not considering how you felt when they inevitably left for a bigger club... We've had a few. I'm limiting it to PL era, so that it's managers most of us remember. Once we start adding LM and Ted Bates, it gets difficult to compare, due to how long ago we're talking. Besides football only started in 1992. We're talking Strachan, Poch, Ball, Souness, Hoddle, Ralph, Koeman, Nige etc and, of course, our beloved Branfoot and Redknapp.
-
My mistake, they had the Newcatle one too! I hadn't finished.
-
They're doing best goals in the PL era this week. Lots of time spent singing the praises of MLT, especially from Shearer. It's the Blackburn one they feature, always hard to choose between that and the Newcastle one.

You come across as utterly obsessed with the guy. I don't always agree with him, but whenever I come on here I seem to find you obsessing over everything he posts. It can't be healthy to give so much time and attention to somebody who simply has a different point of view to you. Let it go once in a while.

This sounds a little silly. The Uk is one of the places in the world where the virus has been most poorly controlled. The only place with more infections ids the USA and they have a much bigger population. It got that way because the UK has been famously slow at getting it's lockdown and testing in place. The UK should not be among the first to relax measures.
-
All schools in Norway going back next week, but lots of measures still in place and lots of online teaching still happening.

You do realise this isn't an official list and is just people sitting around chatting about trivial crap, right? Don't take things so seriously, it's nothing to get so upset about. Shearer is one of the presenters on the show. He'd just been in two of the other polls and decided he'd sit this one out so that they could discuss other players, rather than the same old ones again and again. It'd be a dull show if they just sat and talked about Shearer and Henry every week.

Yes! I saw it the other day when looking something up. Discovering that Eljero is supposed to be Al Jarreau made my day.
-
Bonus question while we wait for Badger: Which saints player was named after eighties soul singer Al Jarreau?
-
They acknowledged that pretty clearly on the show.
-
Well, that has to be right. In which season did saints record the biggest win in the division for that season 6-0 and also record the two joint highest scoring games with a 6-2 win and a 6 -2 loss.
-
I'd spent the previous season arguing with my QPR supporting housemate over who had England's next great striker, Shearer or Ferdinand. Now we had replaced Shearer with Dixon and Speedie and then Ferdinand claimed two goals to beat us. Being a Saints fan always finds a way to become crap just when things are looking good.
-
Away to QPR, we lost. I was sharing a house with a QPR fan

Which three years of Saints history would you experience again?
norwaysaint replied to norwaysaint's topic in The Saints
When we could go a goal down and still be relaxed, because a 3-1 win was still the most likely outcome. -
Feel like something is missing here... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52475052 for reference: https://www.premierleague.com/video/single/518033

Or maybe experience for the first time? If you could somehow experience being a fan through any three year period, see the games in real time, go through the highs and lows, which period would you go for? The Paine and Davies era in the sixties? 76-79 Just managing to span both cup finals and promotion? 81-84 Keegan and second place? 92-95 Vintage MLT, ZDS cup? 00-03 Cup final, Strachan, Beattie, Pahars etc Or more recently Markus buys us, Wembley final and successive promotion seasons? The Poch and Koeman years of exciting, attacking football with squads so good, Liverpool bought the lot? Of any three year period (not necessarily whole seasons), when are you going for?

Worst Performance by an Otherwise Competent Player
norwaysaint replied to Lighthouse's topic in The Saints
Can't think of a better example. Niemi was usually a rock. Reliable and commanding, never put in a bad performance. Then there was the horror show that he gave us at the worst possible moment. Such a low point. -
They discussed that on the show. They'd decided to make Shearer an exemption, because he'd already won the goalscorer category and been in the captains category and they wanted to look at other notable players.

Best Performance by an Otherwise Incompetent* Player
norwaysaint replied to stknowle's topic in The Saints
Leandre Griffit looked as if he was going to be the next big thing during his first couple of games. Then it became clear he just wasn't tough enough and he faded away to never really make any impact for us or anyone else. -
2nd in both Shearer and Wright's lists, probably popular enough among neutrals to do well.
-
Most of our excitement was that he moved in down the road from our house. Life became all about Keegan-spotting.

Not full football league, but regional divisions, north and south.
