How the f*** would anyone know that without cheating?

George Ephgrave
-
Or John Burridge
-
Frank Worthington?

It's all opinion, of course, but I'm amazed by this. When we had Morgan/Cork or Morgan/Wanyama, we had the strongest and most consistent midfield in the PL. He was nearly faultless game after game, so good that United wanted him to be their central midfielder and he was in one of the strongest national teams in the world. Can you really see United coming in for JWP? He can barely get a look in at international level. I think it will be a long time before we have a midfielder as complete as Schneiderlin was for us. But as I say, it's all opinion and we can't compare them side by side at their peak.

Oh, bit late...

Yes, I was trying to get my head around it too. Recent history (this century?) Someone we thought was going to be great. Made his debut in a friendly alongside someone in the same position who DID become a great player, one of the best. (VvD, Killer, Morgan, Lambert, Mane?) Only made one full appearance. That was in a game where a player who became a PL great either scored the first goal of his career, or just the first goal of the match. There's not quite enough info to latch onto. Jamie White?

I think this would be mine, except Toby in for Fonte. Although Lambert may not have been at his best and Tadic may have been better than Lallana in many ways, the understanding between Lallana, Lambert and JRod was sometimes beautiful. They worked together better than any of the other attacking combinations. Boruc or Forster is a bit 50/50.

Terry Hurlock?

Chris Marsden?

Someone on loan. Iago Falque?

Tadic?

Schneiderlin playing for Saints was, in my opinion, one of the best midfielders we ever had. And yes, I did see Ball, Williams, Case etc. He's not really found his form again after United, but the player he was for us is surely unquestionable. VvD, Alderweireld and Clyne are also definites, probably Mane as well. The difficult choices are Tadic/Lallana, Shaw/Bertrand, Forster/Boruc, Wanyama/Cork/JWP/Davis and which of Ings/Lambert/Pelle/JRod.

What would be the best XI you could create from players since our return to the PL? All players would be at their PL peak, which may especially affect Lambert, who was probably at his very best in the CL, but still good, obviously.

Worst Performance by an Otherwise Competent Player
norwaysaint replied to Lighthouse's topic in The Saints
I remember Beattie going on some long runs of being a useless lump, in between scoring sprees. Then there's most of Kevin Davies' second spell and Claus, every time he was next to a less battling partner. -
Correct, one of ten players nominated for FIFA's Puskas award in 2012.
-
Nope This player never played a competitive game for us.

1. The development of communication so that we can effecticvely now speak to anyone anywhere on the planet for free. 2. The ability to access pretty much any music that's ever been recorded at any time. 3. Antibiotics. 4. Kevin Keegan signing for Saints.

A couple of seasons ago, former saint Gareth Bale was nominated for the international award for the most beautiful goal of the year. He's not the first player who was at saints to be nominated. Which player who was on loan at saints, but failed to get signed permanently, also once made the list?

I would say the extremist right and extremist left are equally repugnant and intolerant. You are a little more right wing, judging by your comments here, so are probably less sensitive to what's said, but I've read huge amounts saying that "lefties" are destroying the country, that they are ignorant commies, that they are anti-British, anti free will, are a dangerous "elite" etc. It's all about the same intention and all equally pathetic and immature. Personally I can't engage with anyone who uses the word "lefty". It just gives the impression that they follow mummy and daddy's politics and have never really been able to engage in forming a balanced, considered view. I have voted left and right and down the middle and can generally spot when someone is no longer capable of thinking objectively, left and right. Disliking the current labour or tory party is reasonable. Disregarding everything left or right in politics with a silly nickname just shows ignorance, whichever side you are on.

To be fair, the same thing is done by the right as well. Both sides contain about an equal amount of militant, righteous idiots.
