  1. what's happening there*
  2. Haven't really looked in here much, so I only know what's happening in here through the BBC. Norway is pretty much locked down now. Only residents allowed to come in, but the airports are still mostly open. All schools closed since last week and all teaching from secondary school up is now online. If they don't turn up for the online lesson, they still get absence and might not graduate. When this got announced last week, we started to see the panic buying, but shops are mostly still well stocked, it just took time to refill the shelves with the small daytime staff that was there. People are encouraged to work from home if they can, lots of people temporarily laid off and getting a fraction of their pay. Bars are closed but restaurants are currently still allowed to open. Self isolation is the norm here now, but I was out walking in the mountains at the weekend and people are still using the great outdoors, rather than just lock themselves in. Public transport is limited too, both in the service and number of people allowed on. Are schools closing in the UK yet? Seems amazing if they aren't.
  3. To be fair, that list was posted in response to someone saying he never beat a player. It was wrong. So in this case MLG was right and could back it up. Whether or not Boufal creates any end result is beside the point and would be pointless to comment on with regard to what he wrote. As someone who has watched very little football this year, I have no idea what to think of Boufal. From this forum, I had been led to believe that he was probably our best player and should start more, but now it seems he's a waste of space and should never start. It's pretty tough these days anyway to say who needs more time to settle in properly and who needs dropping. Stephens, Bednarek, JWP, Redmond and Armstrong are all players now being lauded after they were once considered not good enough. Gunn, Hoedt and Vestergaard are widely considered to be a waste of space now, but will maybe one day be in the same position.
  4. Well, that guy might be in awful shape, but at least he's out there working on it, so no, he's okay, despite his poor taste.
  5. Men are just as guilty of the neglect, obviously, but there are fewer options for superficial "improvements". However, we've all seen the overweight, undertrained blokes in the expensive training shoes...
  6. Eyelash extensions, elaborate nail polish and nail extensions, lips with filler, this is what has perhaps cruelly become known as "the fat girl workout". Rather than actually put in the time at the gym and eat a bit less, they spend their time and money over-decorating the body they've been neglecting.
  7. I don't think any of our squad except Ings and JWP would fetch 20m or more.
  8. People who say "very true". True is an absolute. If you add a quantifier to it, it becomes less absolute, not more.
  9. I'll add to that people who ask a question and then say "yes?" or "no?" at the end. It's a moronic way of trying to put an uncomplicated answer to a situation that is always going to be a little more complicated than yes or no.
  10. Anyone who uses the words "end of" as if it adds extra weight to their argument marks themselves as a bit of a cock, as does anyone who ever uses the word "methinks".
  11. That's just a different pronunciation, like we have in different parts of the UK, but the previous one is stupid, as Americans promounce the root word buoyany/buoyancy as we do, but when they shorten it they strangle the pronunciation. I pointed this out to an American teacher I know who insisted boo-eey is more correct, then when I asked him to pronounce buoyant, he refused
  12. Why does everything on this forum have to turn into a sniping and point scoring competition? We all agree that rape and sexual harrassment are wrong and if he has rightly been convicted, that's a good thing, right? We also probably all accept that wealthy offenders will most likely attempt to win favour, influence, credibility and protection from powerful people, right? We surely also accept that in their attempts to get the support of other powerful and influential people, pretty much all politicians will end up getting too close to characters who have something dark in their backgrounds, no matter how clean they try to be. There are no winners here. This is something awful that happened and the guy who did it was powerful and influential, able to protect himself for a long time. There are probably many more out there and they will have managed to get into circles that include Trump, the royal family. Obama, Sanders, Jeff Bezos and Boris Johnson. Most of them we'll never even know about, despite them being in plain sight.
  13. I've mentioned it a few times, but the inability to use the correct pronoun annoys me. People seem to choose the reflexive version to try to sound more intelligent/important, when it is simply incorrect. You can't say "David and myself were in a meeting.", just as you can't say "Myself was in a meeting.". You can't say "He spoke to David and myself." , just as you can't say "He spoke to myself.". I think this piece of idiocy is the most common poor grammar I hear and, oddly, always from people who think they sound more impressive saying "myself" instead of "I" or "me". The same also applies to himself, yourself etc. Anyone who does this is simply a ****.
  14. It makes me laugh when football fans whine on about loyalty. Half a bad season and fans will call for pretty much any player to be "got rid of". Players know that the fanbase that sings their name one day could next be wishing them harm the day after a pass that lead to an opposition goal. Fans' loyalty is always temporary, but some expect players to stake their careers on the club and fans staying loyal to them for years. Lallana was well aware that things could always go wrong and he should take his opportunities while he could. It's common sense. We turn on every player when their form drops. Look at how many fans would be happy to replace PEH or Romeu, or how many wanted JWP sold until his recent upturn in form.
  15. I am no fan of Trump, but to try to score points off this one is a bit weak. It's hardly a shocking mistake. I think Obama could have made a similar mistake. In fact, didn't Obama once claim to have been to 57 states in the USA? People made far less fuss about that. Focus on the important stuff.
  16. Been listening to it on the radio , just got home and put on a stream and they scored. You are welcome.
  17. He was an excellent player, everyone agreed on that. However, we all saw that he hadn't been excellent for us for quite some time before being sold. Should we have just held onto a player who wasn't playing well, so that we could stop him playing well for someone else? Should we hold onto Lemina, just because we know he has it in him to be an excellent player?
  18. We always knew Tadic was a very talented player, but he was often ineffective during games and would look uninspired and wasn't really performing for us regularly. You could say we missed out by not getting the best out of him. It's interesting that we have another player now, Lemina, who we also know is very talented, but also looked uninspired and just wasn't delivering enough on the pitch. You could argue that he never had the record of having played well for us as often as Tadic did, but does anyone think there are similarities between the two situations? Could we let Lemina make a permanent move, only to see his reputation soar at another club, leaving us to start a thread about how we screwed up over Tadic? Personally I think that of course we should let Lemina go, but I think we were right to let Tadic move on too. We didn't screw up, he just needed the move to find his way again.

    Yoshida

He's about the level of player you can expect to be okay with mostly being backup.
  20. There are several players whose improved performance seems to be a major factor in our improved play. Which could we least do without? Surely there are strong arguments for McCarthy, Stephens, Bednarek, Bertrand, JWP, Armstrong and Ings. There's a fair chance at least one will be out for a bit. Who do we hope it's not?
  21. So, basically, better coaching all of a sudden?
  22. Plenty of things you can put it down to, which do you favour? We were always a good team, with decent players and a decent manager, but we were in a slump of form and morale? We're an average team with a decent manager, enjoying a good run of form and morale, enjoy it while it lasts? Danny Ings isn't injured? We've finally found the best defensive line up and formation and it's actually very good? Ralph was trying to be too clever, but now he's doing the simple things well and playing players where they belong? Several suppoerters have finally managed to sort out their lucky tics, realising which is the right way to walk to the stadium, which underpants to wear and when to leave the room to get a cup of tea. If they keep this up, we'll never lose again? Something else?
  23. It was kind of 50/50 on here who was rated as our worst defenderover the last couple of years, him or Stephens. We now see that with a bit of faith Stephens has shown his worth, maybe Hoedt could have done the same though, but the problem you understand in that interview is that he hasn't recognised how poor he was. He feels he's never had a chance and almost boasts of saying so to Ralph. Ralph will have seen the inept performances though and will have seen the errors he was making. Maybe Stephens was more accepting that it was down to more than just fitness and that changes in attitude, teamwork and concentration were needed

Fair enough if people want to pay them enough money just because of celebrity status, but I imagine the taxpayer will still be paying a hefty bill for security. Nice if they start to pay that themselves instead. They haven't really done anything wrong. The only issue would be if they still claimed tax money or lived in property paid for by taxpayers. Plenty of people out there are making money off celebrity status based on their name or family. I don't care about that. Not surprising they want to escape the press. Like someone said, there are a couple of people on here who are kind of like the Daily Mail in poster form and you can just see the sneering vitriol in the way they have already posted.
  25. Horrible back pass from Yoshida. Could have led to a chance.
