  1. I simply don't believe this and think it is actually quite laughable. Sorry. Clearly Shilton was good and arguably deserves to win this vote but to say he would make Niemi look average is surely to squint anemically through the rosiest of spectacles.
  2. As I'm the only poster on this one and I've reposted on the other, suggest closing this one!
  3. I didn't see Shilton play for Saints but I can't imagine how he could have been better than Antii. Antii's performances for us were truly world class on many occasions and I don't think that can be said about too many Saints players in my time. So that's another vote for Niemi then...
  4. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=5059 eh?!
  5. Good idea! Just too young to have seen Shilton but can't imagine he could possibly have been better than Niemi. I think Niemi is probably the second best player I've ever seen at Saints. p.s. I vote for Antii Niemi.
  6. Perry should be playing.
  7. Don't forget Windsor-Clive. He was brilliant.
  8. Therein lies the paradox though. If you can't draw a line then you can't condemn anything. Nazis, terrrorists, rapists. The only option is to have the courage to say "I disagree, and I want this stopped". There's no comfort blanket of metaphysical or moral justification - you just have to stand-up. Very Sartrean I know, and most people don't like it... but there you go.
  9. I think what you've decided is that most common manifestations of patriotism are exactly that, but you have a different one which is "true" and better. Hmm. There is a risk of a relativistic paradox whenever one has these sorts of discussions. I've enjoyed the thread though - some good meaty posts all round.
  10. You can still be Deputy Prime Minister - it doesn't matter.
  11. Nonsense. Correct. No need to comment on this.
  12. It's funny that the Echo decided to pick a headline denying something that no-one who actually paid attention to what was said had ever suggested.
  13. He's helped you by highlighting the (small) bits that can be smoothed over.
  14. I'm not sure why I'm bothering but..... Bit of selective editing there NickG? Just a bit, eh? It influenced the manager to bugger-off. He said he was happy because he could put up with it. How long for, we'll never know. I think the question of what effect does Lowe have and has had on the football side is slightly more pertinent than the question of what effect Lowe may have had on Harry Basset.
  15. Well that's the problem isn't it. It will take more than a realistic, viable alternative. It needs to be a realistic, viable alternative that Lowe cannot scupper. Or Wilde could just change his mind again.
  16. If you get him murdered he'll probably sue you.
  17. I think a sacking is very harsh, although I suppose she was making a personal call when she was supposed to be doing her job, but no doubt the BBC were scared of another ridiculous, pompous, disingenuous, shrill witch-hunt.
  18. May I have one too please? Haven't had one for a while. I am discrete. I knew Mike Wilde was saintmarc for ages but never told anyone.
  19. I'm not sure I believe a word Michael Wilde says, but he will look a monumental arse if this does happen now so I'll give hom the benefit of the doubt on this one. That's not to say it was never planned though is it....? Very strange thing for the Beeb to make up.
  20. This is a correct post. I can't believe how many people fail to see the point Basset was making. "He plays long ball, who cares....." "We put lots of money into the academy..." FFS - grow a brain. Desperate stuff.
  21. I've heard that Arsenal are financing the whole thing and will be buying him for £5m in January.
  22. Big
  23. Agreed. Surely someone else heard this programme and can confirm what was said?
  24. Cue, "he's got an axe to grind" "he's a dinosaur" "of course the chairman should take an interest" "Strachan said he wanted to have a civil partnership with Rupert in his autobiography" "Delgado was quite good" "If Rupert had been chancellor there'd be no credit crunch"... ad nauseum.
  25. ps. some serious advice for the FBI... Smoke 'em out. Smoke those folks out.
