The Beautiful Game is now firmly in the land of the fairies

Here is an interesting thought. How come Rugby hasn't gone the way of football? Some of the egg-chasing clubs have good attendances but you don't hear of £100m rugby players do you? It all comes down to SKY. Well I hope that Murdoch gets a bloody nose and loses a lot of money. -

...after all, look at Pompey. Their owner has 'invested' over 90 million quid in the club and now needs out in a hurry. There is a very real sense that pompey might go under. And I know we all joke about it but I wouldn't want to see our arch-rivals suffer that way any more than I would want our club to. In fact our debt of £25 million, but with a great asset of the stadium means that, ironically, SFC is actually quite 'well off'. -

Look, this talk of Man City bringing new money into the English games is just a load of old horse dung. No offense intended DellDays, but it doesn't work that way. Its like the old chestnut of shipping jobs overseas is 'good' for the British economy in the long run. ******. And it is perfectly possible for one of the big clubs to go bankrupt. If the glaziers or Gilletes or Abromviches of this world decided to cut their losses and run then their clubs would almost certainly fail as they are NOT sustainable businesses. Especially in a recession. There is already talk of TV money being less as people cancel SKY contracts in order to pay the gas bill instead. Man U has something like £850 million of debt. That is a lot for a new owner to swallow. It is, and always will be, the fans who will be expected to pick up the bill at the end of the day. Just like the tax payers have to bail out the greedy banks. It stinks. Money is the root of all evil and in football it is no different. -

Except that Tiger Woods, Lewis Hamilton and Federer are not bought and sold. They earn their money principly through sponsorship deals. If the sponsoring company - Nike in the case of Tiger - does not believe that the player will bring a net income to their companies then they would not enter into the sponsorship deal. And crucially Tiger being paid 100m for a three year deal from Nike does not effect any other golfer whereas paying ludicrous sums to buy players and stupendous wages does have an impact all the way down the game. Perhaps what is needed is a new VAT rate for football transfers. Say 50%. that would put an end to this lunacy -

But it could be a condition of playing Association Football - that is in an FA league. It would take a huge jolt to form a parallel institution and league system and I am sure the fans of the Prem clubs would be strongly opposed to leaving the FA league. -

I think you miss the point I am trying to make. In all rational sense Kaka is NOT "worth" more than two brand new hospitals. It doesn't matter a bean whether he is or is not a super-star player or not. £100,000,000 is such an incredible amount of money. This really does bring the whole game into disrepute. And even £30,000,000 is a staggering amount to pay. Christ sake, it is only football. They are not super-men. They are not hospitals. They are not worth it. -
Kaka is going to Manclechester City for a reported £100,000,000 transfer and £200,000 per week plus a £75,000,000 signing on fee. I don't understand. I just don't understand. How can a footballer be "worth" the same amount as two brand new, fully equiped state of the art hospitals? Sorry folks, but this is perpostrous. The game is rotten. No wonder the United fans god fed up and formed FC United of Manchester. It is a f\/cked up world. Jobs being lost left, right and centre and a footballer is sold for £100 million pounds. Barking mad.
-
As I mentioned in another thread, Brighton and Hove Albion charge a gob-smackingly staggering £30 for an adult ticket to watch div three footie in the cruddy Withdean ground. No beer either.
-
Saints to win 8-3. You heard it here first. Tomorrow is going to be a goal-fest. Saga will be slotting them in left, right and center.
-
If we go two nill down tomorrow by half time I will react by drinking two pints rather than the usual one. And then, as usual, I will be hopping up and down in the final ten minutes of the second half busting for a pee. Up the Saints. Our long overdue ten games without defeat starts tomorrow. We will walk this league. Mark my words. We'll get in the play offs. Then Prem. Then Europe. Trust me. It will happen.

Fantastic three points! Well done you Mighty Saints! According to the bloke on Sky Sports News, Barnsley were all over us for the whole game and it was only down to Kelvin that we won! Just shows that they can do it! Mighty proud of them... UP THE SAINTS!!!

Thinking of you Ron. You were, and still are, a true ambassador of our club. Just **** to think that some of the pip-squeaks wearing the Red and White today are paid more in a week than you need to keep going for a year. Is Ron still in Mexico? What was the final outcome of Ron's appeal? Did we collectively raise the required dosh? Sorry, embarrassed to say that it fell off my radar. Also, did the club give anything? Take it easy Ron, stay with it man. Always SFC.

No. the membership elects the Football Committee at the AGM. Then, the football committee appoints the Manager etc. Edit: and the Football Committee numbers the Club Captain as an ex-officio member. The Club Captain is appointed by suffrage of the membership of the club; candidates for the post must be player-members. That way the playing squad has a way to voice their concerns over the appointment of the Manager and there is a channel of communication between the player-members and the wider membership. -

We should accept ourselves! SFC should be incorporated as an Industrial and Provident Society, owned and run for the members and by the members. If FC United of Manchester and AFC Wimbledon can be so incorporated then SFC can too... The salient point here is that we don't need a 'rich business man'. All we need is our selves, an open area with two goals at either end and a football. The rest will happen. There were no 'rich business men' 124 years ago. Edit: and if Lowe, Wilde, Crouch and the rest would like to be members of the club then fine by me. One man, one vote. -

no it is not. As concerns our football club we could very easily be incorporated as an 'Industrial and Provident Society', run by the members and for the members. As concerns our country's industrial base, a very simple import levy would suffice. It would involve giving the EU the middle finger and building up Her Majesty's Navy to its former glory in order to protect us when the Indians and Chinese get ****ed off with us for not sending our hard currency to them in return for crap goods we could have made ourselves. But we could do it. And we should do it. On the former, you won't ever hear Lowe et al voice in concert the community aspects of our FC and on the latter, Brown only cares about his 'legacy' and sold out the idea of true socialism a long time ago, Cameron is a toff who has too much money already and only wants to 'get in to power' and the BNP are a bunch of racist ****s. But mark my words, our country's economy can only be revived when we stop importing crap from overseas and start feeding ourselves. Proper, true Nationalism (nothing, to do with National Socialism. White, black, christian, muslem or jew, gay or straight we all live on this island and we all have a lot to gain from closing our borders to foreign imports unless we desperately need them). We are a proud country and we are selling our soul to people over-seas just because some t0sser of an 'economist' says there are marginal gains to be made. ******. If I lose my job to an Indian computer programmer exactly what should I retrain as?? I am already highly qualified. Economists are a bunch of useless t0ssers who don't live in the real world. Same as bankers and politicians. SFC needs middle-eastern 'investors' like a hole in the head. Our country needs 'globalisation' like a hole in the head. -

oh for f u c k's sake. it is not about money. it is not about even being in the Prem. It is about keeping it local and keeping it ours. same as the reason we should be keeping our manufacturing base local to our shores. A country which can't make anything is a dead dung-heap of a country. Similarly, a town which needs middle-eastern 'business men' to run its football club is also dead. Christ, when exactly was the point when England decided to give up? We can still make everything we need, we can still run our football clubs. we shouldn't EVER need middle eastern 'business men' to do either. -

middle eastern business men. so what connection would they have with Southampton? Don't go telling me that all is fine because their oil comes into Fawley. Doesn't do it for me! Besides, Man City is owned by some toss-pot from the middle east and after the initial enthusiasm nothing much has happened. Russian matey at Stanford Bridge? Russian matey at Fratton!! Bunch of middle-easterns trying to get Gooners. Manure is yankee-ure. Christ, for f@ck sake. Here's a radical idea! How about English sporting institutions such as Association Football Clubs are owned, and run for the benefit of, the local community. That is how it used to be. -
not sure it matters. if we go down first, then surely we will also go bust as the turnstiles stop turning. And if we go bust first then we get docked 10 points and our position in the fizzy-pop league is (to use political speak) untenable. The only 'joy' about getting relegated is that Lowe, Wilde and Crouch must SURELY all get the hint that they are not up to running a football club and that they should all just **** off. Strange how one has the option of hoping for relegation to get the t0ssers out... UP THE SAINTS
