Fair comment, credit where its due. What about Radio 3, 4, 5-Live, 6-music, 7-comedy and drama, the World Service and the Asian Network? Three of those didnt exist before digital, and I dont recall anything similar being commercially available.
  2. While I pretty much agree with most of this Deppo, how often does your bird actually drive when you both go out? My wifes annual car service usually amounts to an MOT/quick oil change/dust out the cobwebs. I always end up driving. I think the last time she drove me anywhere was to collect my car from the garage last october. And even then she asked me to drive her car on the way there, surely part of the reason womens insurance risk is lower is that they cover so few miles compared to men? We bought her car new 8 years ago and it has 32000 miles on the clock, I'm sure it would be cheaper for her to get taxis.
  3. but what if they dont read this thread? which means they arent interested in the fans opinions?? Isnt that the responsibility of the manager or chairman???? ffs, if we win lose or draw tonight I reckon Cortese and Adkins should seriously consider their positions.
  4. What if david icke was right all along about the lizards? I know two people who are absolutely 100% convinced that he is.
  5. ....and the Sherlock award for 2011 goes to StuOx.
  6. I just heard a whooshing sound. Anyone else notice it?
  7. just a win?? meh, I wont be satisfied with anything less than 6 nil to saints. If we fail to score at least six we will be looking at a relegation battle.

Have you considered standing as an independent candidate in the next election on a ticket of abolishing the BBC licence fee? You clearly feel strongly about it. My guess is that the public overall have decided what they think about it, and I've yet to notice any fuel-tax type protests about the licence fee.

agreed, just to add that while everyone seems to be talking about the TV output, we're forgetting that the licence fee also funds BBC radio and internet output, both of which are imho superb. There is no comparison with the commercial radio stations.

That doesnt follow at all. The American government have until recently gone the way of private healthcare and education. This isnt America tho, and we cater for minority groups, (the bbc asian network for example.) And a lot of the bbc's output is educational.
  11. I'm pretty sure you can buy one of those in Subway.

Mr Thompson told the New Statesman: “In the BBC I joined 30 years ago, there was, in much of current affairs, in terms of people's personal politics, which were quite vocal, a massive bias to the left. It doesnt matter what their personal politics were as long as the broadcasts reflected an even-handed approach. And out of interest, do you feel you should be able to opt out of the NHS, use private healthcare instead, and not pay any taxes related to NHS funding? Or send your children to a private school and opt out of paying anything towards state education? Or hire a personal security firm and opt out of paying for the police? Of course the licence fee is a tax, but its output is intended to be useful/interesting/valuable to the entire population. Loads of stuff the BBC put out wouldnt exist if it was left to the commercial sector for the simple reason that it wouldnt be commercially viable.
  13. Im ashamed to say I didnt know Steve Mills was dead, when/how was that? edit, ffs, cancel that, I was getting confused with Steve Williams, this hangovers killing me

The point is Sergei that you can do it. Plenty of criticism about the BBC gets aired every Friday at 1:30 pm on Radio 4, how many programmes do sky broadcast that are dedicated to dealing with complaints about their programming?

You can contact the BBC here http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/feedback/contact/ to express your dissatisfaction. Could you furnish me with the equivalent service at Sky?

No, its not. The BBC is a public service broadcaster as opposed to a profit-making enterprise, and is run in the interests of the British public in its entirety. You can disagree with its output, but they have a charter that allows you to formally challenge that output if you feel it isnt balanced or unbiased. What would the murdochs say if you wrote to their CEO and said you thought they werent treating a particular issue/party/social group fairly? Newscorp doesnt have to answer to you just because you pay for their product, but the BBC does.

I havent got any children of my own, but an element of my taxation (local and national) goes towards education, child benefit and childrens healthcare. I dont object to that.
  19. ah, the late great Bill......
  20. Up to now, they havent needed to. It will be interesting to see what policies they put forward at the next election now theyve had a sniff of power and actually been able to implement some of their policies. They havent had that distraction before in my lifetime.
