The things keepers can be coached on are the same things outfield players can be coached on. Speed training, footwork, passing, movement, positioning etc.. but ultimatly the key things of a goalie are the ability to judge situations. That cannot be taught. You cannot teach anyone to make the correct choice in every situation every time. For example a lot of goals are mostly 1 on 1's. In that split second where the player gets through the keeper has to have already decided what he will do. If he is too far from goal he is commited and must retreat. If the player is further away he must run out and try and narrow the target. Then instinctly try and get something on the ball without taking the guy out. It is very difficult and that is why we don't see world class keepers too often. Having watched our training sessions every now and then as well as other teams i know they train normally away from the rest of the squad. They have different training, ones that try to refine reflex's and mentality. Someone once told me they are even taught gymnastiques. So KD saves are done through his own decisions and judgments he decides in the momment, there is no way to prepare for that as each will be different. A fine example of Goalies doing their own thing is Gomes at Spurs. He was doing so crap they actually sacked the goalie trainer and went without one.
-
I know so little about coaching keepers that i didn't know that keepers don't always train. Guess you didn't know that one of our England Goalies Kirkland doesn't train much because he doesn't want to hurt himself? He seems to be doing ok! Plus if you read Peter Schmeichel's book Schmeichel: The Autobiography you would know about what he thinks of training and how it helped him, i suggest you read it. Plus also you might want to read Gordon Banks one also, i think the line "Goalkeeping is not just about stopping shots. It is about dominating the area, dealing with crosses consistently, not staying at home trembling on the line, or flapping in fear. It is standing up tall and challenging the striker to beat you, rather than dropping to the floor early and inviting the attacker to hit the target you have so conveniently opened for him. It is organizing the defenders around you and therefore reducing the number of times your heroics are required. It is holding the ball whenever possible and not pushing it back into danger. It is distributing decisively to counter-attack. Goalkeeping is about establishing a “dominant presence" sums it up well. But i guess presence can be taught to people right?
-
What a load of **** and you know it. You cannot be coached on those things they are purely instinct. The team make their own negative points to talk about and Davis has made them seem a lot less negative. His saves recently are up there with the best i've seen any Saints Goalie make or even any other goalie make, they are not run of the mill at all. The players drop further and further back and that invites more and more shots and because of that he has balied us out so many times. Did their goalie make 4-5 world class saves? No. So your talking ********.
-
Funny as i don't recall any of the other teams goalies we have played doing what Kelvin has this year. I guess you have right?
-
Because that would be almost half our home games gone and just 1 win. You will not stay up if you keep that ratio up. We can't do what we did last year and adopt your "there is always next week" attitude as we will just run out of games. As i said if it wasen't for Davis AGAIN we would of been murdered. He is employed to get results and that is not what he is getting.
-
I have no doubt we would be miles adrift at the bottom, the guy is pure class and if we do somehow manage to stay up will be because of him. His saves are making our coaching set up seem better then what it really is.
-
Basically the word that sums it up for me is "Bottled". They well and truely bottled it. When the time came for them to stand up and be counted they turned into mice and hid. The first 15 minutes were dreadful and i thought we were in for one of those crap 0-0's that we had seen in our previous 2 games. But then out of nowhere BWP scored a stunning goal (again) and he deserves so much praise for it, because the BWP of a few months ago or last year would of skyed it or been offside, so fair play to BWP he has in my book turned my opinion of him. I will forgive his offside near the end! The idiots in the rows behind us who shouted at BWP for that are a disgrace. After the goal we dominated probably more then i have seen for the past 20 games, we were playing some really nice football and looked like we could go on to win 3-0 or something. Weds did not even turn up. Second half it was the total opposite. We came out not having a clue and looked like a different team. That 45 mins is possibly the worst i have seen us play a half this year (i wasen't at Preston game). We just retreated further and further into our own half and if it wasen't for Davis AGAIN we would of lost at least 1-4. We were slaughtered and how Tudgay missed that 1 on 1 before he scored i will never know, thank god he did! In the first half we deserved to win and in the second half they did so a draw in my book was a fair result. But all this talk of progress and playing great football is complete and utter bull****. We have won 1 game in the last 6 games and have not played well since we played Reading 4 games ago. While a point is better then a loss it does not help us as we have lost ground on Doncaster and Forest and remain 4 points from the relegation zone with 2 difficult away games up next. One win from 11 home games is pitiful. The home game against Forest could prove to be pivitol to our future. If we fail to win any of the next 3 games especially the Forest game then Jan will have to resign. Time to stop talking the talk and start walking the walk.
-
I think it all depends on what you consider shots. I think i have seen more balls going towards the corner flags in the first 20 games then i have in the past 20 years, so maybe they count those?
-
Agree with you 100% St Michael. Very important game after 5 points from the previous 9, which is ok. Not promotion standard but better then relegation standard. We have to win our home games if we are to stay away from the bottom group. A lose today and we could be back to 1 point from the bottom 3. Plus 1 win from 12 would be fecking awful, Jewell kind of awful from last year! So i think were win and win comfortably. 2-0 to Saints COYR

Today's deal is the new Brothers in Arms game for £17.13 on PC and £19.57 on the consoles, not played it yet so thought that was too good to pass up. -
I said what he said on the radio....As for fitting with my arguement what argument?! The one where you want a link to Lowe saying "yeah i want to sell those players as i want the cash!". Get real mate, your living in fantasy land. I would of loved to hear someone who shared your view phone in and say what you said, it would of really made my day because you would of got slaughtered, would not have a leg to stand on because you know as does everyone else it is complete ********. In your opinion moving to a prem club and watching players like Ronaldo,Fabragas etc.. makes you a better player. It doesn't make you a better player because if it did all those people out there training with them would come out being genius'. Talent is not taught it is refined. And what is the way to refine it? Playing games. That is the only way you will get better is by playing matches. As that dude said on the radio by leaving a club that your in the 1st team and going to sit on a bench at a different club and play maybe 1 or 2 games a season will not help you progress. You said Theo was better for it that is total ********. He was on the world scene, was even picked to be in the last World Cup team BEFORE he had even played a game for Arsenal. Then what happened in the next 2 years after that? He vanished. It took 3 years almost for him to get into the first team playing a game and in that time he has gone from being a striker to now a winger. He has made some good appearences but has had some awful ones too. In that time has he really progressed that much from being here? I would say no. As he plays games he gets better not sitting on his ass watching others play. If he had 2 more seasons here before going to Arsenal he would play games and get more and more experience making him not only a more wiser player but a better player. But you believe that Lowe wants to keep the players and has no desire to sell them at all.....
-
Crouch: "The directors have all made a lot of money from the club, they should put their hands in their pockets and give some back". We need the fans and we need to get them on board. They need to come back and they need to support the young players. You start selling the young players the fans will rebel even more. The young players are the future of our club and if they are sold we have no future Wants someone to come in who has passion for the club, he was proud to be apart of the club. While the people are at the club the club will never come together. We can beat Man Utd Missed only 1 game"
-
Again SW if Lowe did not want to sell them he can say they are not for sale. He hasen't done that and he won't do that. he said he will do "whats right by the club and the shareholders" if you translate that into meaning he doesn't want the players to go then that is your opinion. One that in my view looks pretty silly.
-
Crouch said: Reason the club spent the 7m was because Wilde came in saying he will put the money into the club and would put his own money in. He mislead the board and fans. He put his own money into the club to try and help change the club for the better. Wilde and Lowe have not put a penny in. He said he would put 2m into the club if Wilde would to show the commitment both had to the club. Paul Allen WAS interested in the club. Wilde is a "Turncoat" and turned on the fans. Wilde and Lowe created the mess and they are the two who have to clean it up not blame it on everyone else.
-
He just said that in his time as Chairman the only young player he sold was Theo and that was because he wanted to leave. He blames the previous chairmans for selling Bale,KJ,Baird,Best etc.. That to me just shows the guy is up his own arse as Bale said he would leave a year before he actually went and went because he wanted to play in prem league. Baird left for pretty much same reason as KJ as wanted to play for a better team. I felt we got a good deal for KJ....And Best left because he wasen't played i thought? And Crouch is on now
-
But as the guy said Lowe has the power to make them stay. If he really wants them to stay he will do a Fergie/O'Neil and tell them to fook off. But he isn't saying that is he. He is basically saying we will sell them at the right price.
-
Then i will re-iterate what i said. Anyone who really thinks Lowe does not want to/need to sell players in january and it is down to them if they leave is an idiot. Time will tell but i have no doubt i will be resurecting this thread in 4 weeks or so and saying you were one of the idiots when they go.
-
Indeed they have to be sold. But why were they not sold in the summer as we had plenty of time with the new set-up to know they would not figure nor could we afford to try. Rasiak and Saga will not make much for us, maybe £1m combined. The sale of those two would not be enough seeing as we don't pay their wages now. At the end of the day time will tell but im 100% in agreement with the guy on the radio "complete and utter rubbish".
-
And the people on the radio agree with me SW, maybe you should ring in and say what you just said? Also so true what the guy just said about Lallana just signing a new 4 year contract a few months ago. That shows he wants to stay.
-
Well for those players they obviously went on to better things. But Theo didn't even play for what 2 years? Plus i think Theo did the club proud with his negotiations. The same as Bale. Unlike most people today who see the £££ then just leave without a care in the world. But the point re-mains the same IF we are to AVOID admin we HAVE to sell. Anyone who believes Lowe will let these players decide if they stay or go is a idiot.

Gamestation (Game) are all free delivery too. And TDD i don't think they have a list of what games, think the point of it is to look at the website every day and you might see something you like while browsing. -
Well the mob will be angry no matter what he does. He is in a no win situation. But he is the one who put himself there. We all know we are in financial meltdown, we have been aware of it for a long long time. We have our 3 main strikers out on loan because we can't afford to pay them, that is a good indicator. Then we have our recent financial report saying we are down what was it £5m? For him to come out and say we don't need to sell anyone and the players will only leave if they want to further their careers is just plain ********. If that actually happened and all the players said they want to stay we would make no money in the window and that will obviously hurt us further financially, probably to the point where we will have no choice but to go into admin. If that happens Lowe loses his shares as does everyone. Can you really believe Lowe would be happy to do that if it means 2-3 players stay? Of course not. He has no option but to sell because the club needs the money badly to pay the money we owe to our creditors. Right now i will make a prediction that Davis and Lallana will be bought in January. I think that is 99% going to happen. Davis is in fine form and goalkeepers who are in that type of form are hard to come by. We all know Davis doesn't want to leave, he has said so. So if he does go who's fault will that be? Lallanna has been in the spotlight since his display at WBA last season. He has had numerous clubs scouting him this year and because of that i think someone will bid for him because they will worry someone else could get him. If those two do go i think we will be able to hang onto the other players until at least the end of the season. Those who do go Lowe will come out like he did with so many players in the past with most recently Davies saying they wanted to go to a better club. When the reality is we had no choice but to sell them. That is why Lowe should shut up.
-
I would rather he didn't say anything at all that is what i would prefer. He said the same thing about players like Crouch,Theo,Beattie etc.. then in a matter of weeks they were gone. Some for good prices and some not. Point being when Lowe makes this statement which must be an anual tradition for us the player he is talking about goes. So while you may believe he is playing a business game to rise the price of the players i think it is nothing more then trying to ease crowd reaction to the coming storm. Any real business person would know we are in the **** because Lowe said so only a few weeks ago in in his stock exchange company notes. No matter how good you are with the gift of the gab (which lowe isn't) will not increase the price of the players by coming out saying we don't have to sell. Because if the figures are correct then we do, we are that close to admin, all the vultures circling over head will be full aware of that. He should just shut up, if he is not speaking in the independent about salary caps he is talking on the radio about how great our young team is....Mr i want to be a celebrity has returned then.
-
And there it is the kiss of death. He said the same thing so many times in the past you would think he would realise people are actually not that dumb. The whole "if players want to progress in their careers at a higher level we can't stop them" translates into "i might be able to make some cash on this player and if someone offers anything they are gone, but they wanted to leave, we didn't have to sell!". Theo saga part 50....
