What's more important ? The furture of SFC or its past ?
St Marco replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
It is only a couple of people who are having a pop at Cortese. Sadly they are the ones who seem to be able to post all day everyday so are the most active/vocal posters which makes it look like there are more then there are. Most sane people i think realise that the beef between Cortese and MLT is actually nothing to do with the fans. They won't pick sides. In answer to the question though you should always respect your past. Our most recent past has been pretty terrible. At one point were we not the lowest south side in the league? Who would of thought that 10 years ago? Going through that makes me appreciate what is happening now even more. There are so many good times from the past but sadly that is what they are, the past. You can't live there. It can't be changed (unless you know Doc Brown). The future is un-certain, events that will happen have yet to happen. People say we will never see the likes of a xyz player again. But then one pops up. Our history is full of great players. Who knows if Cortese does stick to his plan and we do reach the Champions League (dreaming for now) then what is to say someone like Lallana can't become our new hero? We could be at the start of a Saints golden era where we not only get to the top flight but are there to compete not just to survive relegation battles. If we all stick together, keep the positive outlook and keep the team spirit then who knows where we can end up. Going the other way and giving in to negativity and anger only leads to one path, self destruction. And i think most of us have had enough of that thank you. -
Noticed the other thread on there he made "14th worst defence in the division!"......"we have got found out at the back".....such a nice positive place that one.
-
He is entitled to an opinion of course. Just in that sense he should keep it to himself. What purpose does it serve? Personally as i mentioned i don't think what he said was an insult. Someone would have to be very thin skinned to find that offensive.
-
Pretty sure if Dodd was told he couldn't do something, especially help a charity he would resign. He has done a lot for charities over the years. Does not seem to fit with his personality in my view.

No not the degrees of the insult, if one is really an insult at all. Confirming that there is a feud is not an insult.
-
As i said before Cortese should not be giving these interviews full stop. Asked anything at all about the feud he should of had enough sense to not answer. BUT What he said if you look at it is not actually a dig in the same way saying something like "You would be mad to work under this chairman". Those are personal insults. Saying he has been criticised by MLT and LM isn't actually an insult, it is a confirmation that they have a feud going on. There is a difference. If he came out and said something like "MLT great player, but a bloody cheapskate, never offers to pay for anything" etc something like that then it would be a proper insult. The freebies comment is the issue and as mentioned we don't know if that question was asked alongside the MLT and LM one. It could of been said at anytime during the interview and the journalist moved it to that place in the article for effect. That is what they do. Controversy creates cash/website hits as they say.
-
That isn't how it works.....They don't print an article then someone rings them up saying "change it or pull it". As others have mentioned there is no way to know if the article was as open as it sounds or if it is in even in the correct order. If you look at it. it says He said: "Yes, Lawrie McMenemy and Matt Le Tissier have criticised me but they should know no one is more important than the club. Seeing as the word "yes" starts the sentance he was obviously asked a question. We don't know what that question was. It could of been "MLT and LM have been quite vocal about their opinion on you haven't they?". Something like that. Which if that was the case then what he says is an honest response as they have been. They have taken shots at him in the media lots of times. Remember this one http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/football-league/1011/6/le-tissier-i-wouldnt-be-too-much-rush-work-cortese where MLT pretty much makes it sound like Adkins is not a good choice and who would want to work for NC? Roll on 12 months and we got promoted and sit 1st in the championship. My point is that we don't know in which context Cortese meant his comments. But in comparison to what MLT and LM have said about him in the past it is pretty mild....
-
How do you know he hasn't been in contact with TheSun about it? To say it must be true because he has not contacted them seems a bit silly given the fact none of us would know if he had or not... On top of that how can you say what is printed in the sun is "fact"?
-
Yeah but Benali and Cortese have a problem about the supposed damage to a house. It isn't actually anything to do with the club or history of the club etc. If i remember right it was Benali refusing to give the deposit back. Seeing as it has been 2 years and they have not gone to court you have to wonder how true it was in the first place.
-
I don't think that is a fair judgement really. Cortese has done a lot of things with/for past Saints players. The legends day against United where there were lots of old boys there including a lot of the 76 cup winners. The recent Terry Paine thing is another example. The Dean Richards tribute at Molyneux and donation to St Gemma's Hospice etc I think a lot of people use the MLT and LM thing to say he forgets the history when in reality it is only 2 people he has a problem with. And those 2 people have a problem with him. It is sad for the fans of the club that there is this split as i am sure we would all like to be on the same page with all of us enjoying our current success. It takes two to have a slanging match and MLT and LM have both said their things. Having all three of them using the media as their stage to do it is the worst part of it all. All three of them should shut up and keep it to themselves. None of them come out of this with any credit. If Matt is upset that he doesn't get freebies then he needs to chill out, when i was at uni in Sunderland a semi-retired old lady who cleaned the campus worked 40 years at Tescos. She can't walk in and just help herself to stuff. The same logic needs to be given to footballers, especially modern ones who earn more in a week then we do in 10 years. Matt is and was a legend, some great memories. Just accept you won't get free tickets and move on. The same goes for Cortese. He should not be giving interviews like that in the first place.

Nice to see whoever our researcher is, is getting the numbers about right. Unlike last year where Pullis was one of the highest rated in the squad! Thinking about it it might have been Pullis who was the researcher! Reviews starting to come out now Eurogamer http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-09-25-fifa-12-review 9/10 IGN http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/119/1195975p1.html 9.5/10 All pretty good then.
-
Maybe there should be a nominated amount of free season tickets each season i.e 20 and the fans then nominate who they think deserves it. From past players/staff and fans. Because it is hard to say who is more deserving. I knew a guy who died a few years back who went to nearly every home game for almost 40 years. If you think about how much that would of cost it would of been a lot. Many people dedicate their lives to the club to the point where they work their ass off in some ****ty job week in week out just so they can get to the games. Someone who does that is just as deserving as someone who played hundreds of games for us in getting a free ticket imo.
-
To be honest with you the feud has nothing to do with the fans. Both Cortese and MLT/LM should not be using the media to snipe at each other. Jeff obviously was only sticking up for his mate but the way he makes it sound is that it is all Cortese's fault. Which as we all know is not quite accurate. Without trying to sound too critical if Pinacle had gone through with the takeover i think it would be safe to say we would not be where we are right now. As much as a legend Matt is he is not beyond criticism which neither is Cortese. Both make mistakes and both obviously have problems with each other. The free ticket thing in my view is probably not even the real issue. The fans should not be put in the position they are. Everyone just wants to concentrate on the now and enjoy the good feel factor around the club. Because after all the **** we been through we deserve a good period. It is just sad that the three of them can't get together and try and sort it out. Having your mate slag off a chairman at a club on international tv is not going to get you anywhere. Someone has to take the first toke on the peace pipe.

He does. Lives just down the road from me. Met him a few times and is a really nice guy. Totally down to earth. I didn't hear what was said but he is good friends with Matt so obviously that would be why he said it. Which again would just fuel the fire and make it petty. -

The sad thing is if the guy came out and said "the plan is to stay in the championship a few years, maybe oneday we will get promoted" etc then the same people would slag him off for lack of ambition. We would have 30 posts by the same negative people having a pop at him. He can't win. Anyone else thinking there maybe something personal behind this hatred for him? -

Pretty sure teams like Forest, Leicester, West Ham etc have all spent more then us? I don't look at it in a "who we bought" way. I look at it more in a "who we have kept" way. Seeing as the chairman is the one who negotiates contracts I'd say he has done pretty well in getting players to sign. If he thinks it is possible for Saints to be a top 6 side with an extension of 18k and then pay someone 200k a week then i believe it is possible. If we continue our climb of the last 12 months then who knows. I for one would rather look at the positives then the negatives. Positivity brings success and a team atmosphere that cannot be bought. -

Personally i don't see how a Saints fan could read that and not feel positive about where we are headed. If winning a cup, promotion, sitting 1st in the championship etc does not make you believe the guy then nothing will. We are very lucky we have a guy with ambition and wanting to achive things then someone simply interested in money. Good to see the sun write a nice article on him. We don't get to hear from him often but when he does you always get the impression he truly gives a **** about our club. Just a shame others don't share his enthusiasm and simply want to keep grinding the axe. -
I think it is written in the stars that we will get either Arsenal or Newcastle. The whole Pardew/AOC return thing. And to be honest i'd be happy with that.

Will never boo the kid and don't blame him for wanting to leave and get a big pay cheque either. However i have no respect for him in the way in which he conducted himself. Especially with the rumour around that he told Adkins he was no longer going to play. With the comments his dad made it would seem true imo. The club said time and time again he was not for sale and Cortese rejected bids for him. The way he and his dad tried to force the move by talking to the media was pretty low. When the boy walked into the club at the age 7 there was no telling if he would be a good player. For the next 10 years our club looked after him and made him into what he is now. Soon as the big fish start swimming around he wants out. Personally i think he should of shown a bit more loyalty to the club. If he stayed for another season he would of progressed a lot. But as someone mentioned above it is his life experience. Would of been great to have seen him rip the championship up with us but we all move on. Wish him well but won't cheer him when he returns and won't boo him either. He is just another player now.
