we must stop assuming that just because we are Southampton that it counts for something in this league... look beyond the name, the heritage and look at who we are right now and then... understand, we are where we are because of the immensly poor mismangement of the club at every level for the last half a decade or so.

I was on record as being "underwhelmed" when AP was appointed (and boy what stick I got..) but I do not want Pardew out. For one he has started to put right what was wrong and is trying to recreate a serious club again. First of all he has re-established a credible scouting system ( I cannot believe the previous muppets had let that slip soooo badly), secondly, he has/is getting rid of those players who earned shedloads but delivered very little (Razz for one), and yes despite the results we are beginning to get a team that isnt rolling over so easily. The man has a lot to do, I intend to give him time to attempt to deal with what is a very very difficult job turning around this shambles. I agree with another poster from an earlier thread this week, we may just be bottoming out at long last. AP appears to have no pretentions and knows that the progression is to a) start winning b) see the end of minus points c) get out of the bottom 4 all of the above are huge psychological barriers to break through. OK... lets get the "feel" for the opposition shall we so that when the game is over we can not use hindsight eg: before the game Swindon were considered weak but afterwards some posters on this forum consider(ed) them a strong team... so what is the perception of Brentford BEFORE we start the game? This enable us to get some perspective if 1 we win ("against a weak team ffs... not a true test of the teams we shall meet, or great win against such a strong team expected to do well this year) 2. A draw ("would have taken that before kick off against such a good team... or Points dropped against dross) 3. A loss ("to be expected against promotion candidates.. or why are we losing at home to sub standard opposition") So ladies and gentlemen... not asking for a prediction of score... are Brentford a good team?

The team as it stands at the moment will win 1 or 2 of these maybe... so AP needs to create a team from those at the club plus any more he intends to bring in a mould a team, otherwise we shall still be in minus numbers well into November.

saints paid many "new signings" last year who played "SFA" skacel, forecast, pulis,smith, etc.. etc..

Is it premier league expectations to expect a start of season deficiet of -10 to still be -10 after 3 games... and by the way Swindon are not a tough side!!

18 pts off the top 15 pts off play offs 10pts from relegation and goal difference is not better either 43 games left was hoping to have eaten into that 10pts penalty by now

My concerns about Pardew when he signed are documented in his appointment post and I do not intend to go on anymore about that... but AP was quite clear at the start of the season that: 1 He inherited a carp team (sounded quite like Redkrapp in his assessment) 2 The players needed jusr are not available /will not come 3 AP is right there is an awful habit of losing and doom about the place Other threads and posters also debate what level Saints would be successful at... and many on here agree that we still have not found that yet.. there may be worse to come , in the sense of games , like Swindon that we STILL expect a win/good win/tonking etc.. It appears that once again we all need to reassess our expectations and then take a good look at ourselves and decide if we can wait/stomach it. Plenty of other managers would have resigned themselves to this dross, other more inspiration ones may have attracted players quicker... (no names to mention) or motivated players quicker (Sven/Torn?) I think AP is probably a middling manager, he wont give up I dont think but he cannot attract the players we now need or so it seems to me. The decline continues and no sign of improvement on the horizon.

No not at all fast , but yes has a decent throw on him.

Saw him play against Cambs utd on Easter Monday. Big, strong but really nothing special..but then Kettering did have an off day that day...

Skacel remains unattached because he never performed at Saints.. and for that his punishment is oblivion.. if he had performed someone would have snatched him up ages ago. He clearly is one of the least effective signings we have had (and boy have we had a few...discussed on a previous thread many years ago). Got what he deserved?
