Our team for the second half of the season...
Window Cleaner replied to benjii's topic in The Saints
Then why did he take him off on Monday and leave the useless James on?? to help out at right back I suppose. Get the defence sorted so that they don't need propping up thus stopping the midfield getting on with their business and the rest will follow. A good football side is founded on it's defence, because you can't always score 3 goals to bail them out. -
i think Cork is on loan at Coventry, don't know how long for.
-
we could have been one of the stand-out teams this season, but we got a crap start. Even the 38 points we've mustered doesn't really cut the mustard compared to the 50 or so Leeds have already . Why couldn't we get Kisnorbo in the close season, didn't sign for Leeds until late July. Oh right Milan hates us and would never let us have anyone any good.
-
But that's a structural investment, don't take owners putting their hands into their pockets too seriously.Perhaps he's loaning us the money.Talking of loaning, whatever happened to Jacksons Farm?? Do we still own it or was it signed away in the takeover gumph.I never got the full details of all that, perhaps the letter just got lost on it's circuitous route ,and to think I gave the post lady 7 euros for her crap calendar the other day, mind you if you don't, your mail tends to fall into the mud and rose bushes a lot.
-
Aren't Peterborough selling someone for 4 million in the near future? They stormed up last season, they might be able to do it again.
-
Doubt if he's dipping his hand into his pocket very much for just the team side of things. We are getting good gates and must be breaking around even at least.
-
But Charlton and Norwich were crap last season as well.
-
Oooh well before then I would have thought.I think the management will allow him a little bit of money this window, but if the results aren't significantly better against top teams afterwards I don't know what might happen. I think M Cortese said he wanted to walk out on us during the Swindon game, perhaps patience is not his strong suit.

Our team for the second half of the season...

Amazing to see all these teams with no Lloyd James in the starting 11, it won't happen you know.If we get a real RB he'll be moved into midfield, probably at the expense of a better player than he. -
In fact Lines has just turned 24
-
Ooooooh, go on you know you want to;);)

Are you kidding me?? Of course it isn't because it's too slow. Harding is the only one of these who would get into any of the top 6 sides.Trotman was good but has become erratic, despite the praised lavished on him for the Exeter game a simple squiz at the highlights will show you that Perry lets his man get on the wrong side of him all the time.Jaidi is a lump with no pace so when you get a fastish kiddy he's all at sea,Murty is a constant injury case, the rest just aren't defenders. I bet if you look at Leeds defence it's the same 4 blokes, week in week out.
-
It is a simple demand for information DD, nothing more.
-
would this not be because James takes the corners? How many goals have we from corners (or other non-direct set pieces)?
-
Because maybe that's what you need to get out of this league. Our defence is catastrophic, hoofing to 5ft 3" ferraris up front will catch us time and time again especially down our right side.
-
Was Lallana onside then? it's not about Papa (for once)
-
In fact gets better results than our man.Much is made of us "capturing" Hammond from U's,but they don't seem to need him and i'm sure that they've invested the money wisely.I consider 2 league defeats by clubs we have given money to for their better players is a bit of a slap in the face. AP has done an OK job but I think he needs to watch his step over spending and the results obtained by it.He also needs to put the bloody defence right so that we don't need to pack midfield with defenders to compensate for it. To me our defence is a big black mark for Pardew. Money spent, players signed but it still leaks like a sieve.Because the same 4 players are too old or too infirm to start every game. Remember the 4 Arsenal oldies, started every game at 35/38 years old. What did Cortese say on Solent by the way?
-
There seem to be a lot of players AP doesn't fancy, Gillett for example. Totally unexplained, I would have thought that for formations like today's he would have been handy,
-
I'm not impatient, it's just that this obsession with Antonio baffles me. Perhaps Papa is carrying an injury and nothing's being said about it. I do hope were not getting involved in silly games about money with Fiorentina over him.So much a start,so much a game for instance, still can't see that really.
-
But not to start him today in a 4-5-1 just didn't make any sense unless he has some injury or other. When you go 1 up front he's exactly the sort of player you need, out wide, cutting in, putting the sh*ts up the defence. Our midfield had no outlet to create because whatever we gave Antonio was either not controlled correctly or gifted to the opposition.Starting Antonio in front of Papa made no sense, unless we were trying to decide whether to sign him or not, but then that would be a high price to pay for something we could toss a coin for.Antonio just left Colchester with a spare defender to clamp down on whatever we tried. So we take of Morgan but still persist with the useless Antonio, makes no sense Anyone who can solve this riddle answers on a postage stamp to -Dpt of Human Resources,Microsoft corporation, because they surely have the ability to get hired.
-
Thanks for your input.Don't think you're right about the play-offs though. Depends on whether we can find a consistent defence very soon. Agreed Antonio had no place on the field today, not when we have better players at our disposition.He just undid whatever we created and left you with a defender spare cos he was so crap;
-
Whether a player can grab a game by the collar and dominate depends very much on the other 10 players on his team.He can win balls, slip though passes, make great runs but if he's farting in the wind with someone who has no control or vision to get where he should be to profit then all will fall flat on his face.We have players in our side who are counter productive. They negate much of the efforts of the players with more talent.I suspect AL and MS will both put in transfer requests this window, simply because they'll go either now or in June and as we're going nowhere it might as well be sooner than later.I might be wrong but I wouldn't doubt it happening. We found no usage for Mellis either so Chelsea took him back. He's a decent player by all accounts but we had no use of him, preferring Antonio for some reason or other.Perhaps it's not the same requirement.
-
No but I have had on hand information from someone who was. Plus Pardew spoke on Solent a few minutes after the game.
-
But we're only 10 points adrift because 2 or 3 teams have games in hand. We might be as many as 13 behind (but Swindon probably won't beat Leeds). Making up 13 points in 22 games over sides who are playing well and winning consistently is very very improbable. It mean we have to get over a point more than them every 2 games.Swindon have taken 4 points from 2 games over Christmas, including one away to Charlton. We've only taken 3 points from our last 3 games. We will probably match them point for point but making up the -10 took too long and we are out of it.
-
A 5 man defence then, or 4 and a half, but Boothroyd got wind of our plans and switched strikers on us.Also with Ifill getting well forward all the time we had our hands full everywhere. AP said in his interview that he was really disappointed by the goals (which means he was really hacked off).
