And even then there's no guarantee that there will be herd immunity for this virus. There isn't for the common cold and the flu is there. The latest observations are casting doubt on any long terms immunity whatsoever, then again it's the WHO. Most of Sweden's cases are in the big cities, Stockholm, Malmo etc. I think they make up about half of Swden's population so 18000 odd cases and 2150 deaths aren't a great advert for 5 million or so people. Translate that to the UK's 68 million or so and you'd have 27000 or so deaths and about 250000 cases. Death rate is still the same over 10% of diagnosed cases.

None of the several allegations stopped Trump winning, anyway 1993 seriously? Clinton is difficult to explain, perhaps yer average backwoods american just wouldn't vote for a woman and thus she lost Wisconsin, Michigan etc against all odds. Warren was probably a better candidate than Biden, favourite at one time I believe but people just didn't vote for her in the primaries.
-
If ? How can he not win ? The only way that he won't is that for some reason he isn't the democratic candidate. He could run his campaign in Urdu and still win.Unless of course the opposition isn't Trump. Perhaps the GOP grandees will soon see that he just cannot win and that they'll lose the senate as well.

Germany has more cases although their population is greater, they seemed to have managed the death toll better though. Perhaps it's something to do with the make-up of thier population or the strain of the virus most commonly found there.
-
Why so? Because I think that what you call your lockdown is lightweight? I see the results that are published in the daily briefings and I know that the situation isn't getting very much better. Most of the other badly affected countries are all on the downwrd slope because their lockdowns were far more severe and enforced.

Well you'd have to vote for whoever has a better option for vice-president wouldn't you. Doubt if either of the old guys would still be in power in 2024.
-
Agreed, football in particular and sport in general have replaced religion as the opium of the people and without it well...... Not that the bishops and mollahs and what have you aren't kicking up because they can't fleece their flocks either. The UK needed a severe lockdown for 6 to 8 weeks but instead implemented a girly version that the populace were capable of accepting. That's why you still have the highest daily rate of new cases and deaths in Europe.

He seems to think (or is being told) he has to take on a female vice president who'll probably become America's first female president before 2024. Biden won't last 4 years.
-
Stands to reason. He'll be 78 if he gets elected and he's already showing some signs of senility apparently. So at the end of his term at 82 (if he ever get's that far) he'll be a vegetable likely as not and people will be telling him what to do.
-
Well I was thinking more of his family advisers actually, Ivanka, Don Jr and Jared. Hasn't sacked any of those yet has he?
-
Both silly old buffers who'll get pushed around by their unscrupulous advisers.
-
30-40% you say, try somewhere between 8 and 10 % and the signs are that there is no automatic long-term immunity.
-
I'm quite surprised that the Republicans didn't oust Trump a couple of years back. They might have had a chance in November but the bloke is obviously a megalomaniac nutter. Biden shouldn't be president either, he'll just get pushed around by the leftist loonies.
-
Spot on, you haven't reduced the number of new cases and deaths by anywhere near enough as of yet. If anything restrictions in the UK need to be tightened and not relaxed .

Wasn't his trip to the Caribbean somewhere around Christmas-New Year ? Think the Chinese were still denying just about everything back then.

I've mentioned the CDG cases elsewhere. Don't know how they figure that using 1700 extremely fit young people as a model for a nation that has it's fair share of very old, very ill and very fat people can offer any significant information. The trouble with the CDG is twofold..the indiscipline and the planes that came from a viral hotspot. Still if you expect a bunch of 20 something sailors not to hit the town, even if you tell them not to, after a couple of months in the eastern med then you're just asking for trouble really.
-
Don't know, there seem to be an awful lot of multiple tests, over 100,000.
-
Won't happen although it may well be "recommended". Would be challenged in the courts and deemed unconstitutional as likely as not.
-
In fact the really important figure is the new cases. Statistically about 10% of them will turn into deaths. There have been another 5850 in today's figure which are supposed to reflect yesterday. The confirmed cases to tests ratio is about the same 1 in 3.5 although why there seem to be a lot of multiple tests (about 25%) isn't obvious, are people turning up to be tested time after time or are the tests that unreliable? The UK needs desperately to bring it's new cases down and that you'll not do with the laxist lockdown that you have at the moment. Perhaps it's all that the government thinks the average Joe would accept but it needs to be toughened..a lot.

And is what I'd call the "surmortalité" (over death rate) for the UK known for say March 2020? In France that of March 2020 is above that of March 2019 but well below that of March 2018 when I think we had a big flu epidemic.
-
I think they say otherwise but my German is rusty to non-existent. However I think most of their cases are younger people in a sort of general sense. If you look at the CDG example, 1070 cases, 2 serious and no deaths so that gives you a totally false figure doesn't it. I think each nation has it's own wikipedia coronavirus article, you may be able to look that up in English or some other language you can make out.
-
Perhaps the Germans have managed to keep the virus away from the old, infirm and fat. Don't know if the same statistic has ever been brought to light in the UK but about 70% of France's really serious cases are very, very overweight. The young and fit just usually pass completely aside. Of the 1070 cases determined on the Charles de Gaulle (about 60% of the crew) 500 odd have no symptoms whatsoever. These are mostly young men and women, all pretty fit . Vitamin D levels are also considered important enough, so 3 months swanning about in the med probably beats hanging about in a retirement home somewhere or spending your days in an office.
-
In any case I'd have thought the current crisis might lead the UK (and other nations) to consider bringing a bit more production home and stop relying on just in time deliveries from far, far away. Things will just cost more though.

Who knows, I see that some Cambridge experts are saying that the virus in the US and Australia isn't always the same as that in the Far East and Europe and that it's older than we think. Virus seems so complex and variable. I spent most of yesterday afternoon perusing a chinese study that says that the virus affects the blood system and the pneumonia is a result of viral sepsis.

I'd think Ashley has about had his dose of football ownership. Unless you have money that grows on trees it's become a bit of a mug's game in the higher echelons. Fans expect far,far too much and whine whatever you do. The more you spend without getting the results they think they deserve, the more they moan.
