Yep, can see this being a very big score - problem is, amazingly I still give a fuck.
-
To Liverpool - that makes it even worse!
-
Oh dear. What a typically shit moment and from our best player too. “That’s why we’re going down…that’s why we’re going down”…
-
Lyanco had a couple good moments - convinced he’s not as bad as some make out and deserves a squad place in the Championship.
-
Ah, nice. You’d think JWP wouldn’t be quite so spiteful…not the kids fault he’ll not be a regular starter in his new team.😉
-
That perfectly describes this last season really…11 men running around kicking a ball, with seemingly little point to it all!!! We must all be desperate for more this season I would wager!
-
Maybe, but with so many changes to the starting line-up could anyone really confidently say who our ‘1st team’ actually is? I mean there are definite starters sure and they may likely be the first ones out, but who would care if Walcott, Ely and AMN are no longer here? All three have featured prominently under Selles. As I’ve said before, I reckon Martin would give his right arm to keep JWP in place I suspect as he’s so suited to his style of playing, but even if he was to stay would that bode well for the team, the results and ultimately our ability to even get into the play-offs? Almost impossible to say, however the biggest area of overhaul required in the team is up-front in my view (AM and ST)…huge gulf in quality needed to get us back up to the Prem. Difficult to see Tall Paul, Armstrong, Che and Mara all leaving, let alone Djenepo, Ely, Stu, Edozie, Orsic, etc. does make you wonder if Tella will be kept or sold.
-
My biggest concern with the proposed Martin appointment is that he favours a style of football that is not suited to our team - attempting to play out from the back. It’s not really worked, particularly with McCarty’s distribution and worse still when we’ve played lower league teams we’ve still looked rubbish. It’s not the Manager who ensures tactics are translated into results on the pitch…it’s the players and with JWP having so much possession that tends to translate into sideways and backwards passes with little dynamic threat going forwards. I just wonder whether this is really an appointment that will change our fortunes or one that will see us sink even further…the jury’s out, but I’m not hopeful.
-
If we can believe Martin is going to be the next Manager, given his supposed style of possession based play, he would be well advised to build a team around JWP. He’s intelligent, has high possession stats (!!!) knows the club inside out and is after all the Captain. Only downside is he’s a senior player who has been part of a shambolic losing mentality for at least 3 seasons now and as such, perhaps not the best choice to lead the team going forwards. With two years left on his contract, Saints have hold of the strings (for once).
-
I think it’s safe to say the season effectively ended when he lost the Fulham game, so I suspect he knew full well (given his abysmal record) that he was not going to be retained. If not then he’s more deluded than most fans actually thought!
-
Thanks - that just about qualifies as years (rather than months)! Point I was making is that he has had a substantial influence over a longer period than just his reign as manager.

Brilliant!

New head of recruitment appointed. Brother of Tony!

Can’t believe the add-on rumour about Duk. Let’s face it, we’ll be ripping up the Championship with our current strikers Che, Armstrong and Tall Paul - they’ve all got good pedigree at that level. If they can remember how to score that is…it’s been a long time. 🤣 I mean look how good they were against the likes of Sheffield Wednesday etc….err…oh. -
Yes - he was in place during Ralph’s tenure I thought, but I may be wrong.😜
-
Mmm, having read through this thread I’m slightly less pessimistic about Martins appointment (assuming it happens) than I once was. If we get the squad right for him then it might work, but that’s a huge job in itself. One things for sure, if it’s possession based tactics he employs, JWP will fit right in if he stays.
-
Well liked behind the scenes by who? If it’s the players then that speaks volumes, but I doubt it’s as cosy as some make out - how can a pro player have any respect for a manager that drops him after playing a great game? Or a manager that doesn’t know how to win a game of football? Difficult to imagine the Board liking him him much - he’s cost the club a lot of money in relegation (he’s been influential for some years now) and lost people their jobs. The guy has been a disaster and Ankersons decision to keep him around has been nothing short of negligent.
-
Whatever way you cut it it’s going to be an utter spanking with little resistance from a team of players who put down tools months ago. What pockets of quality exist will be nullified by a manager who has no clue how to beat a lower league team, let alone a team of Liverpools standing. I’ll not be at the game and it’s debatable whether I can bring myself to watch another humiliation. If Liverpool score less than 4 and we manage to have more than one shot on goal, I’ll be surprised.
-
To be honest I’m past caring - just want him and a few other players who dawdle along pretending to have passion to bugger off asap.
-
You look at how other teams pass the ball into space, move into space, triangulate with ease etc etc and then you see Saints play and it’s like watching a different (boring) game. THAT alone tells me the coaching and management quality of the squad is at an all time low - as bad as the Lowe days when we were falling down the leagues. Don’t get that right and we’ll pass through the Championship quicker than a vindaloo eaten on an over-zealous stag night.
-
Yep - there’s only one more game left for Selles to put the cherry on his abysmal cake of a season by gifting Liverpool a 9-0 win. Get yer bets on now!
-
JWP doing well getting his pass completion stats up by passing backwards twice in quick succession ending in gifting possession. And when we’re trailing two goals. Hope he goes elsewhere - he’s part of the problem.
-
Oh FFS - 7 minutes of extra time torture?!?!
-
Good to see Selles is keeping to his playbook by protecting a 3-1 loss. Useless idiot.
-
Bednarek keeping on doing his shit thing. What a pile of utter trash we’ve built up in this squad.

Kamari Doyle now coming on for a shop window experience. Lovely.
