For all we know he could have been a Chris Marsden. Good luck to him.

Can I urge anyone who did not hear it to try to listen to the Roy Hodgson interview with Mark Pugatch and Henry Winter which was broadcast on Radio Five tonight. A really good insight into modern football management - if not very long. Worth a listen before we cast judgement over any manager, especially our own. That is all!

To be fair my friend, Wotton knows his limitations and I have yet to see him attempt and fail to hit a pass beyond 25m. If he looks up and finds someone in a red and white shirt with the ball, his work is done. It's just not as effective at progressing the attack as Spiderman is when he looks us, spreads play and hits a 40 yarder that drops on Lallana's toe!!! I would play Spiderman myself, but on Saturday Wotton did the job he was asked and did it well, fair play to him.
-
Why would someone make a fake Saints shirt? Is there a big market for knock-off recently relegated from the Championship gear...
-
Honestly, if you had asked me, I wouldn't have known who was playing left side!! Lol. I think I'm showing the same confusion as the Gillingham defence!!!!
-
I thought he was pretty good against Bristol Rovers to be fair. He took flack for their goals but according to the tactics was probably only as equally at fault as Lallana?? He was good on Saturday. Like you say, a young man coming into his own. Let's hope he keeps it up!!!
-
4th goal came from Lallana cutting inside from the left, from a move that started down the right. So my guess is that Pardew has said if one flank is blocked off switch play and come in from the other side?? I agree though, Harding is struggling to get forward if there is no one he can rely on to cover him.

Dorking to St Mary's - I dunno, 70 miles? Waste Paper Basket - get with the programme, it's a recycling box these days!
-
I reckon they must be swapping about then.
-
Mellis and Lallana other side surely? I had Waigo in front of me first half most of the time! And Mellis was definitely not in front of me!
-
hahahahahahah. Old Crop Circles himself. Nice one.
-
Is it me? I think we have been playing a sort of front three behind Lambert with players popping up all over the place - but not specifically in a position like right/left wing. Hence Lallana scoring from ther middle and the left on Saturday. And Papa missing from the left and then scoring from the right. I heard this formation described during the West Brom/Preston game by our old mate Tim Flowers and that's exactly what it looks like to me we're playing. Regular viewers will know I know feck all about formations... so anyone who can put my strained tactical nous to rest would be appreciated!
-
You will old pal. He is working tirelessly in a kind of Mackele (spelling?) role and allowing Hammond to get forward. Bizarrely he and Wotton are kind of interchangeable in this role, although only one of them can hit a pass beyond the end of my office...
-
James' corners on Saturday were excellent. At last!

I am concerned. Either this bloke should be selling ice cream or be a racing driver. Clearly, he was not christened to be a footballer.

Thank you, that is precisely my position. There is no dilemma between forgiving a slow start but expecting the wins to start flowing. I don't want to sound like Swiss Tony but a good league season can be like making love - a nice slow start with a couple of early hints at what's to come, then a build to a tumultus climax of excitement. I realise this does not sit comfortably with half our quick **** down an alleyway fanbase... I see no reason why we should not aim to win every game from here on. We have the team now, we have the resources. Ten games is sufficient to gel, whatever that means. Will we? Who knows. Can we? Yes.
-
Essentially there are several teams on whom we can gain an advantage that, as you rightly point out, only stands in our favour if we both then win other games. I think you are right to an extent. I do hope that the club is aiming to win every game - I suspect this is how some of the other succesful managers have operated... It's a strange idea I first noticed Bob Paisley and then Jose Mourinho try. Funny, but it seems to work. I think even Alex Ferguson has been known to give it a go. While I can comprehend the losing mentality that has crept into our fans, I don't think we need to accept it as irriversible. Yes, we started slowly. But winning the remaining games this season is well within our compass. Surely, since we are the Chelsea of this league??
-
Tell me DD, you do know who Monsieur Mange Tout is surely...
-
Lol - I won't be backing them to win it, but it is possible... The big difference between us and them is that we are Chelsea at the bottom of the league. And if they were, you probably wouldn't write them off just yet...
-
Hope didn't cost us Premiership/Championship status, nor lose us the FA Cup. As I said above, you can eat an aeroplane. We've swallowed a rivet. Next Friday maybe we can manage a piece of undercarriage. Then who knows... It is only 16 points. It's a hill not a mountain.

Saints 4-1 Gillingham - Post Match W00Ting
Legod Third Coming replied to Arizona's topic in The Saints
I think MS does the Wotton role (that kind of 'sweeper/holding player' role) but the difference with MS over Wotton is what he can do with the ball. I thought Wotton played well yesterday, mind. -
Well, sure beats ordering a noose... I always thought the mark of a Saint was hope.
-
Me too, I also thought he played well against Rovers. We seem to play a back 4-1-1-3-1 with the three 'front midfielders' - Mellis, Lallana and Waigo on Saturday - changing places throughout the game. That's why people bang on about Mellis coming inside all the time, they all do, and keep the front fluid which makes them hard to mark.
-
No, you're right, we're not 16 points off the play-offs, we're 16 points adrift of them, floating on flotsom in a sea of misery if we listen to your sort... miserable fecker. Of course we need a 16 point reverse on the teams in the play-offs. We have six point reverses available on some of them. We just need to win 5-6 more games than the remainder of the league between us and those in the top six. You're right. With 30 games to go we should throw the towel in now. It's impossible. Never been done. Never has a team gone on a run of unbeaten games, comprehensive wins and stormed up the league in the latter stages. Bring me the cyanide. (PS: I think our Chief Exec shares my fanciful notions)

I don't understand why the bloody scholars don't do it? It would give them exposure to the first team action, they could watch a game close up and, with respect, they should be a bit more physically able than some of our current ballboys - you know more Jonty Rhodes than Cecil Rhodes!!!
