I've seen Matty at the Cottage in Winkfield having lunch with Beefy and various other sporting and famous luminaries after a game of golf down at Wentworth. It's not about who knows you, but whom you know!! He would be a great figurehead and knows enough people in the media and within sport to get a good story across. That's what you need. If he doesn't put a bean in, it wouldn't matter because he would put heart and soul in!

I think that the Football League needs a long hard look at itself. Between it and the Premier League (of which I readily concede we were a contributor), they have screwed the funding of football to the extent that the vast majority of clubs are now living on debt. We are simply the first of many outside of the top division (and some within it) who will go 'bust' because we already WERE bust!!!! This is fundamentally because of the distrubution of wealth within football. I am not asking for special treatment - we 'broke the rules' we deserve whatever punishment we get. But the gulf for clubs relegated from the Premiership without a sugar daddy is such that there is no hope for any club attempting to be run within sensible financial parameters. Brian Mawhinny needs to do MORE to ensure that there is more wealth flowing into league clubs. Perhaps that means setting a mininum fee for players bought from League clubs, or a collective bargaining agreement re tv rights for cup games or selling the rights to the League internationally by marketing the heritage of the clubs, who knows. Instead, the League sit and pretend all is well and then sit back and watch century old football clubs fail. Rather than dishing out penalties, how about WORKING ON BEHALF OF THE MEMBERS. I really feel for the fans of Luton Town and thought they were unlucky... who's next I wonder...

Are they in the running?
-
Why not - they spunked millions into Iceland and all those frozen vol au vents...
-
Aye, but it's about contacts not about your own cash when it comes to these sort of deals.
-
That needed clarification?
-
Au contraire. I doubt Lineker put much into Leicester financially. MLT is a figurehead - something we have lacked for too long!
-
This is a simple argument. How much did Lowe put into the club and how much Crouch? As for McMenemy... find me a manager who has not quit or been given the Spanish archer... He still did more as manager of this club than any man since.

I can't believe the number of people who expect us to land a 'benefactor'... We need owners with a passion to turn us around, not a bloody patron! Look at what has really happened at Liverpool, Aston Villa and United - owners intent on making a return have actually delivered managerial freedoms and improved results.
-
I don't buy this. If they are successful with us they can go up with us. If they succeed again, they can go up again. Why shouldn't someone do a Keegan with us??? If they are then poached by United, Chelsea or England, fine by me. Cos we'll be in the Premiership by then!!!

Is that the one he waved around picadilly???

Benji. I want a Ferrari. Always have. Does not mean that I am rushing down to Kia to lash out on a red Soul... Why the hell would Rod Stewart lifelong Celtic fan and lifetime club 'president' or something (along with Billy Conolly) want to sit and watch the sh!te that we serve up. I am a lifelong SAINT and even I don't want to be there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
No, the point is he is a Celtic fan, why would he buy another (ie a different) club... apols not clear!!!!
-
He has a lifetime membership and season ticket at Celtic. Why the hell would he buy anpother football club???
-
I couldn't give a monkey's about 'affinity' - credibility, capability and many other 'ity' words but only Geordies need locals!
-
That's down to us and WE need to show potential/actual new owners how much we care buy buying sensibly priced season tickets in their thousands!
-
Worse, it shows people who bought Barnum Lowe lock stock and barrel. If I cannot afford a car to get to work, I can have a serious think about: walking a bike train bus lift from a pal hiking What I don't do is go up in my attic and build a machine to fly there with balsa wood and marmite. And that is Lowe - a total innovator with no grip of reality and less of football. Lowe coming back did NOTHING for our finances that you and me could not have done. What did he do about: better relationships with shareholders increasing revenue through the gates bringing shareholders together to help fund us through our difficulties attracting investment - ever??? Answer - nothing, zip, nada, niet, big fat zero - only just dwarved by his big fat ego.

He is looking to get the best possible result for the lenders. Ideally he wants to sell the business as a going concern. If he cannot he will sell whatever assets he has to the highhest bidder to pay back the lenders as much as possible. Of course, we do have an advantage in that a football stadium, while worth a great deal on paper, is actually worth very little unless you bulldoze and build on the land. And who would buy property on the burial ground of a 124 year old football club...

Maybe she could reach the parts other owners haven't...

That's what I thought when we scraped relegation by a whisker and had a whole summer to shave the squad and work with a credible young manager to rebuild it and faith among the fans. In fact, I recall thinking that the only thing better than having a productive, reliable and proven plan and working with shareholders, manager, fans and financiers alike, would be for the most hated man in Southampton to come back and try an experiment with **** van Dyke and Rip van Winkle... Feck me. No wonder footballs fans get a bad name...
