Isn't this the kind of game Adkins wins - whereas only Pardew would lose at Tranmere... oh...
-
Notts County losing at home to Carlisle and we're losing to fecking Tranmere... This is the inconsistency that this team and budget must rise above!!

If you really think we don't need to buy...

When Burley was here it drove me mad that we could all see the holes - in our defence - and he did nothing but buy midfielders. At one point I counted ELEVEN central midfielders and not a single winger... And we had to suffer a thumping by Crystal Effing Palace for him to realise what Stevie Wonder could see. So here we are, recognising that the weakness is a lack of a creative midfielder and pursuing a striker...??? -
I have no concerns about us scoring goals but the idea that Morgan, Hammond and Chaplow are creative is simply not really true is it? Noticable that we have no Lallana and we cannot break the first team down without his presence? Now, my question is is that coincidence or is it because without him we lack creativity?? Put it this way, the fact we score 19 goals in five games kind of proves my point doesn't it? Why do we need Austin??
-
Can he naturally instinctively pick the ball up from our keeper, run the length of the pitch and score each time we need a goal? Because my big worry is not scoring goals, but having players who can make them...
-
The big problem for me is that neither Hammond, Chaplow or Morgan will ever unpick a locked a defence. Guly? To me looks more effective 'in the hole'. The natural fit should be Puncheon, but he really needs to beleve that he can do the job and we're not convinced he does, are we? For me, our firepower is significant - Lambert, Barnard and Guly. But none of them can score if they're not given the ball in the right place at the right time. So if we can't replace Lallana like for like, I would go looking for a pacey winger and have the option of the tactics which worked last season of opening teams up by chucking the ball in behind and having defenders forever on their blocks and turning.

Is he a striker because we don't need one. What we need is a creative midfielder.

Worryingly, I recently employed a graduate in Business Studies (2:1) who then asked me whether I could help him with some conventions in English as 'no one had ever taught him how to write properly'... Thank you Tony. Education, Education, Education my arse. Still, minted innit l8ers like c ya .... God help us all...

"It was not something I seeked..." Thank God he didn't come here. Christ alive. I thought grammar was bad among most football managers but that takes the biscuit.

Sensible post - to which I would only say that we should only ever buy players IF they are good enough to walk into our first team. To do otherwise is false economy and EXACTLY the reason we are on League One and not playing Liverpool this afternoon. You have a squad to provide cover. You have a FIRST TEAM to win football matches. Those on or around the fringes of the first team should either be: first team players coming back from injury, first team players having a dip in form, reserve/youth/squad players who are now showing they are champing at the bit and almost ready for first team action. If you buy someone as cover: 1. it doesn't make the bloke in the position try remotely harder. 2. if someone is coming in and prepared to sit on the bench, what sort of motivation do they have? 3. it isn't strengthing your squad it's WEAKENING it. It stands to reason since you've already accepted that they are worse than the bloke in posession...

Could we have dead wood posters listed?

Alps, usually I can let your posts waft over me like the smell of mature French Brie. But Harding, dead wood, are you fecking mental?
-
We should only ever buy players better than those we have. Right now we have the best squad in the league. So it would take one hell of a signing to make it worthwhile...

To be fair we beat them 3-1 in a hack canter last season during a month in which we beat everyone 3-1. The team is no sterner - it has Guly and everyone else simply playing to their full potential finally! Although I concur that Adkins now looks a better manager than Pardew. Still early days mind. -

We are now 15/8 favourites to win the league. Which makes my 4/1 look a fair bet. Finally, we are stamping our authority on this division. -
Oh come on, give us something that we can't all predict...
-
It's not really though is it? Stockport don't have to play Milan or Madrid or sell players like Ronaldo to balance the books. Isn't that like saying it's easier to run my local butcher well than it is to run Tesco?
-
Corrected for you!
-
My bad, he's bringing around my Teryaki Beef. Good spot.
-
Does that mean Kelvin is bringing round my Sechuan style Pork later? You've lost me...
-
Well that's one thing we do agree on - Newcastle is a poisoned chalice! Shame, they used to be my second club but not with that idiot in charge!
-
I agree, he's doing a fine job. The last manager also did a fine job. He found and built this squad and encouraged them to come to a team bottom of League One and starring relegation in the face. He took a team that had lost more games than any other in domestic football and turned around the entire ethos from losers to winners. In fact so much so that the likes of you complained when we won a trophy (that it might have cost us promotion) and when we drew games at locations like Brentford where we regularly lost while in the Premiership!! In return Pardew is villified as a long-ball merchant who did nothing for our club. Poor. Very. (But am I glad Adkins is here. Of course, so long as we win the league as we should. And he might even do a job in the Championship and beyond).
-
No, they're playing as well as under Pardew when they were assembled. Our form from October was... er second! Happy to help. And to be fair, Pardew didn't have Guly - who is class apart as I think you might have now noticed!!!! (This notwithstanding, I expect Adkins to outperform Pardew and win the league, with ease).
-
I am loving what Adkins is doing. But really, all you've seen so far is a chef assmemble some decent ingredients and let you lick the spoon. If he makes a decent souffle, let's congratulate him then. Had we won our game in hand when Pardew was fired, we would have been sixth. We weren't holed below the water or anything close. The damage was done categorically by Wilkins but thankfully Adkins has rectified that damage very well and very quickly.

And if he can't sort him out, at least we have someone on hand who can help with the training ground redevelopment...
