  1. yes a great shame that. Only problem is ...that you can't keep them forever, in the hope that things " might work out " eventually. we have a sad and sorry list of such players....
  2. .......if Barnard scores in the reply (regardless of the final score) .......he will become an instant Oldham legend, and will sign for Latics in the summer -----in exchange for their striker Matt Smith ..who at 6'6" looks like the new Peter Crouch, and might turn into the next Rickie Lambert. !.. OK ....joke over ....that's my fantasy prediction for this season.
  3. I'm surprised that more fans don't follow and comment on U21 games. After all we have been playing teenagers in our first team side for quite a few years back.....and sooner or later we'll be seeing more. I've been lucky enough to have watched several U21 games " streamed " this season and it 's good to be able to watch players who had only been a name on the team sheet. .....and by all reports there are some good prospects here ..and in Doddsy's U18 crew, too.
  4. the answer to that one is probably NO !.....because he has descended in the League...to a level where he excels, and looks to be a good player.. Good luck to him. The best he can hope for is that Wham might buy him in panic... to stave off relegation next season...(.providing they survive this season ..that is !)
  5. almost agree ...quite a few of the above are OOC in June, anyway. Except that I think Guly has contract time left .and will stay. So too, Aaron Martin, who despite recent disappointments surely has a good future. and maybe KD will see out his contact. Most of the rest will stay with their present " loan clubs "....and probably be on Nigel Adkins's HCDAJFU list in his new club...(who won't have anywhere near the Liebherr-type money to spend.)
  6. the matter will surely have " sorted itself out " by June. either..... he will long back to SFC and that Prem. career he's always promised himself....OR....he will enjoy being back in his own country and want to stay.
  7. MAYBE:? .......we could wait until Salisbury become a Football League side.....and go through L2 in one season ....that's if Jamie is still a top goalscorer then ...maybe ? ?
  8. ........or it takes 100,000+ posts before someone finds out they know jack sh*t
  9. NOT in the flesh,(so to speak) but I did watch a streamed U21 game v. Liverpool a while ago. We were unlucky to lose 0-1 through an unfortunate deflected own gaol (not nearly as good as Gareth Barry's) Seidi came on as a sub near the end. He is quite tall and put himself about a bit. He had the best shot of the game when he hit a shot from near the halfway line with such furosity ..it just went past the far post ...and their goalie wasn't anywhere near it. Now that we have less "dead wood " around, I guess, Seidi likely to get a bit more game time, but the U21 side has quite a regular line-up at present.
  10. Lawrie Mac said that he never was " never quite hungry enough" - but it was a bit tough on the lad whose task was to understudy....Alan Ball and Peter Osgood (amongst others. ) He did however, manage 80 odd first team starts, (and played 35 games in season 1979-80) ..and scored a few useful goals- which is more than can be said for some of the others of his generation.
  11. Didn't ever see him play, except that Blackpool game - (when he wasn't the worst on the pitch that day either) ....but followed reports / results when he did. Was fairly typical of an Academy lad who took the world by storm when he was 16..... but never quite made it to become another Alex O-C, when he reached maturity. IF you look closely enough, you can see familiar names in L1 /L2 and Conference sides who were at the Academy / youth level at sometime in the past ..but never QUITE made it " big time " I did a quick run-through the personnel in the L1 sides recently, and found more than a dozen clubs who had a former Saints junior in their squad.
  12. now edited . Is that better? you're lucky it's not in 3D.
  13. have you noticed the pre-disposition of sub-standard journalists who turn an interview / press conference..... into unsettling the player (in this case manager) by suggesting they MIGHT like to be elsewhere. the storyline a couple of months back by asking Ramirez " .if he wanted to play in La Liga ".......and now a similar question to Pochettino... .It creates a dramatic storyline ....where non existed.
  14. ...it's been interesting to read some of the names from the past that have appeared on this thread, but some of them surely come into the category of " players we wished we'd forgotten "
  15. One thing that does make me lose my cool, is the media assumption that if some, supposedly " rich club " (for that read - deeply in debt) even suggests that they wave a couple of £mill. under our noses, we will bow down to their golden a**es.... and hand over our best ass ets ....(there you are I can write it - in context)...... to them, they are very much - in error. Rickie recently proclaimed his desire to finish his career at SFC. One thing we can be sure of, is that if he does ever leave Saints..his career will be finished..if he has to play with some of the donkeys at Wham. So hear this! ..we don't need your money....so take off! If some of the upcoming games go the way they might....it'll be we who are above Wham, and they who are fighting relegation.
  16. or... should you say ...." a teacher of English " ? ....as not everyone who teaches English is necessarily a native speaker (as my daughter at Uni. complains about continually - and she's fed-up correcting them).
  17. How often have we said ....He's one for the future .....the only problem being they often become history .......very quickly.
  18. nice of you to say that Olallana .........of course, I recall Tommy Jenkins.....but with mixed feelings. He was up against it when bought in to replace Johnny Sydenham in late 1969, I think. To his credit, he had a turn of pace somewhat reminiscent of Sydenham, and when he set off... he always got the crowd behind him, and looked set to take on the world.....which was his one real problem, as he always wanted to " beat the extra man," and show off his dribbling skills instead of passing to another player, and his attacks often ended up as fruitless efforts. He was certainly entertaining to watch, but only managed a handful of goals (as I recall) in about 3 seasons. He moved onto to Swindon (at a sizeable profit) where he had similar fan acclaim, but just as few goals tally. Seem to recall he moved to the States and played or coached at Seattle Sounders (who seemed to have attracted several ex Saints players over the years) starting with one of my boyhood heroes from the 60's .......Jimmy Gabriel.
  19. THE PROJECT ? a quick glance in an Italian / English dictionary may give you a hint...choose another synonym. doesn't translate so well, but it's positive.
  20. they did ! .....I wrote a short history...... somewhere....... on the current Boruc thread on here.
  21. you have ! good post.
  22. one of very few players to have scored a hat-trick AWAY from home..happens only a few times every decade.
  23. Did I say that........looking back I said ..I was very impressed with him at the start....(I don't think I was alone with that assessment) but of course, his very well-taken goal helped with that impression .. also for the record..every Championship game was not available on stream to me, I didn't say that either btw...but as Saints were at the top for much of the season, they did feature now and then. If he's still in the longer term planning, (hopefully) he can get some match practice in Japan and regain some form by the summer. For his sake it would be sad to think he'd " lost " 12 months of his career.
  24. Interestingly, Bournemouth have only ever been in " the second level " (call it Championship now),...for three seasons 1987-1990 under their manager ..Harry Redknapp (where have I heard that name before ? Dating back ..they have the divisional record for the longest standing Div.3 (L1) club.
  25. ....he might recommend a name or two from the African Cup of Nations, but I guess he travels around a lot....... in search of the next Drogba...or Ba.
