  1. well it must have worked for them ..when he was in charge...we had the best Youth squad in the clubs history!
  2. my point was that if Sharp's "release clause" is £1.85 mill. NOW .......and he signs a new contract ....you can be sure such a clause would be much higher ...as they would definitely ask for more than that... IF he were to move, which might well happen if they go down to L1. They wouldn't be able to afford to keep him on L1 gate receipts. Conclusion .WHOEVER... is going to buy him....but NOW, whilst that price is low .
  3. of course you have a valid point in one way, but it shows respect for those who died, as with Rememberance Day. Too many people neglect history and it's disrespectful to the memories of those who perished, or other historical events that happened. Note, A survey some years ago (among several thousand German college students) showed that more than half of them... had never heard of the name ...ADOLF HITLER (!)
  4. well nice someone thinks so, I had become convinced there was nothing more the other... 315 contributors.. could write about on the matter.
  5. .of course the reports of his current " get out of Donny for £1.85 m." clause will go out the door then, because if he signs a new contract ..and continues his good form ..... his asking price will be treble that !
  6. ....and I'd add the possibilty of signing T. Lee (who sounds to be a real find !)
  7. this has to be the LONGEST thread I've ever participated in. When I wrote #1 on the 5th November, it was an enquiry ...when we were discussing the suggestion of a "loan player" to bolster the strike force. the thread seems to have become a damp squib, as many of the early responses criticised that I'd veen voiced the idea..but it was only a question. Now, two months later ...more people seem to think that we are going to sign him but we seem no further ahead...and all we need is a pronouncement from SMS to say that... we never were, or will ever be interested in buying LJ... (along the lines of the Sharp/Maynard statement thay made recently at least ..then we'd all know. It's all become very frustrating ......and there seems no end to it...should the MODS close the thread ..or ?
  8. Monday, Monday ....which Monday ? ...Whit Monday ? ..or ... (did it come from a good source, or someone at work ..or ?)
  9. according to Puncheon's agent ..Blackpool manager Holloway made a " reasonable offer" - £650K apparantly - for his player who (he says) Saints don't want. Whatever our intentions, every player has a price and even £1 million isn't THAT much for a player (the agent says) is sought after by " several Championship clubs " ....so where's the problem?... if those "other " clubs want him equally badly ...then we'll get our money eventually. I'd also like a sell-on clause because IF - Puncheon does do well and eventually moves onto the Prem..then even £1 million would like like a "steal ". I'm more than happy for Cortese to hold out for the full sum.!
  10. I thought he was the "expert " doing the commenting on the game rather than the commentating ..surely that's the job of the Radio Solent guy ??
  11. To be fair, this time of the year there is bound to lots of speculation. Clubs want to buy at a reasonable price...agents want to sell on their players to get an extra % and a cut of a bigger salary in another club, and sometimes "button-hole " irresponsible journo's who then run stories with no credibility at all - quite simply - LIES ! (just to get a headline). This only goes to upset clubs, fans and the players concerned get criticised or at worst abused for being greedy!. There have even been contributors to this site, who start a thread on a player (who they may like), but who SFC have never been interested in, and have never bid for ...I think Maynard comes into this category as Brizzle said on their OS - a while back that they hadn't received any offers ...at all! As this is the Billy Sharp thread ... YES ..Saints did make a bid in the summer, Donnie agreed the fee - but the player himself said " the time wasn't right " (pregnant wife at the time). Now it's a cat and mouse game and just because Leicester has agreed a fee, doesn't mean he will sign for them! It's a very confusing situation, but often the " selling club " is more forthcomIng with info...as with Coventry's several articles on Lukas Jut. but nothing appears to have come on that one, and we know that Nico Cortese likes to keep his cards close to his chest ..and who can blame him. As for Commons and Hooper...Celtic have posted some info. together with a " hands off " warning despite their own money crisis... personally ..I don't think we were ever in interested in Commons, more likely it was Hooper all the time...(but what do I know). I do think that some people are more willing to "believe the lie " rather than wait until the " truth " emerges.
  12. how many times have we seen a story like this ..? ..agreeing a fee can (sometimes) be a long way from ..the signature on the contract.. Do we know that Saints are definitely out of the picture +
  13. " van Brockenhurst, really?..... (maybe the extra syllable was a sign of loyalty to the club). " half loaf /whole loaf " ..I rather like that ...nothing about the glass being half-full, though ?
  14. OK Trader, I was trying to recall his time at Burnley...(if that's still in Lancashire ?)..but of course you're right. I must admit he does go on a bit - but then we old men tend to do that at times. However, I am more than happy to listen as a mark of respect to the best " Youth team coach " we've ever had ... MLT, Shearer, Maddison, the Wallace brothers...and that was only some of the " big names " who came through in Dave's time. Great fella ! ...so I'll re-phrase the original question to (whoever it was ?)... Is it his Geordie dialekt that you don't like ?
  15. maybe / maybe not, but it's good to have some sort of valuation - especially if there might be an exchange deal in the offing ...!
  16. it's not TOO MUCH money, it's the fee we set that matters and if they haven't got the werewithal to pay it - they should keep quiet and not go into print on the matter. If he ends up in a Prem.club then he'll be a bargain at anything less than £1 million - hope we get a sell-on clause in any eventual deal, too.
  17. through injury, or suspension... well that's what Adkins said... but so many ? I know about Ricky's suspension, and Jaidi, Barnard, Chaplow, Fonte, Seaborne and SDR ..make that 7 ...but who are the others he refers to..?
  18. ++++
  19. AND ...what a coincidence, the attendance was.... EXACTLY 9000..........!!!
  20. WELL DONE those fans!. Not the most attractive fixture in this season's calendar...but if we end up at Wembley again (by eliminating the remainder of the L1/L2 sides), at least they can be proud of having seen every Cup game.
  21. IF .....we want to give some more playing time to the likes of Jamie W-P, Sam.H. Ben Reeves and Doble ...then it's a great draw. We can't afford to experiment too much.. when there are 3 League points at stake every week, but its obvious that we have promotion as priority then this ..." what the f*** , it's only the Cup " type fixture ... is ideal to see what they can do against lower class opposition. After all ..if they are future Prem. material it's a chance to get some games in rather than trying them out in the away fixtures at Midd'bro ..or West Ham.
  22. I'd go with that too, Mowgli If he had been another Pulis..then NA would have been shot of him ages ago. He seems to be the sort of player who's always "back-up" for someone else when they're injured....ala Hammond, Lallana & Cork... who are far more of a regular first choice. Yes - he's had injury set-backs and doesn't get regular outings even the "over age" U21 side. He played in all 4 League Cup games, and did come on as sub. in the last 5 and scord that long range " hit and hope shot " v. Watford (something few others are willing to try)and had been on the bench for 6 of the last 7 games. I don't think NA is disappointed with him, but if we get back to full strength soon - a good loan out for a month or two might allow him to get some real form (playing with (say) an L1 side. Rather like Aaron Martin, he doesn't get many chances, but when he has played I've not seen anyone criticise him as much as ..Harding, Hammond or Guly...He's still " young- ish " and like Oakley and Surman ..he may be a late developer, if given the chance.
  23. well if you want another game for our youngsters to play in (and go further in the competition) you couldn't have chosen anything easier than D&R.
  24. we need a goalscorer on the pitch second half... NO!!... not Forte..if we can play Doble, then NA can certainly try Sam Hoskins instead, at least he does score... even if it is for the Academy side.
