  1. will anyone be around to pick up the pieces..?
  2. Me too, he seemed to fit in quite well and teamed up with the other midfielders just as though he 'd been on since the start.
  3. signed for Boro eh ? Obviously my question on #1 ...was purely academic - apparantly they think so. so it's the end of any likely Saints interest in... Sharp, Maynard and finally LJ .. who's left now ? End of thread. to the MODS... perhaps you can close this one off ....and save some space and heartache. Who's next ?
  4. Oops! - some people missing my question..what are the record fees paid out (by other clubs in recent years)? I know that Leicester paid £5 million for Mills.
  5. could have been 6-0 in the last 10 mins. Lee Camp made fantastic saves from Holmes and Hammond and Martin just missed a ball at the far post when only a yard out! Second half was classic stuff ! Connolly made his poached goal from 6 yard box look so simple - pure class Good to see players taking chances from outside box. Schneiderlin's (rare) goal from 25 yards out was really stylish.
  6. watched the replay several times on TV and Chambers led with his arm and hit Connolly in the jaw . It was violent play - though I have seen worse..
  7. There seems to be a word feud here between those who think we dare not spend (say) £6 million on a player (Hooper ?)..and those who I number myself amongst, who suggest we need to spend a bit more on SOME players if we are to secure our Premiership place in an eventual promotion. Saints' own transfer record is the £4 million for Rory Delap in 2001 ??..so in this day and age... maybe £6 mill.isn't so much ? Someone out there with better stats. than mine..What level is the record fees for players transferred into Championship clubs? I know there have been some fairly high-priced transfers in the last few years. Does anyone recall any of them..and how much ?
  8. [quote=S-Clarke;1237612 At the end of the day to progress out of this league and establish ourselves in the premier league we need to spend some money, and £6m is a relative dip in the ocean compared to what we'd get back from it. If we don't want to break our record transfer fee then our progress will halt, I'm sure of it (QUOTE] well said Clarkey, exactly my feeling, too.
  9. ...and (I read somewhere) ..an IRISH grandmother. I thought every footballer had an Irish grandmother...
  10. ...sounds impressive. How would you compare Scottish League 2 level with Championship ..or even English Premier League ?
  11. oh ! ...so that means "someone " phoned to Cortese ..and he said... OK, I'll sell the lad, he will cost you £4 million...eh ? (shoddy journalism at it's lowest ebb).
  12. I suppose it depends how much you are willing to invest in a (soon to be)... 35 year old ? 'think they might offer him a 3 year contract ?
  13. well LOL, if you look at a few other threads, I think you'll see that I'm not the only person who uses italics, bold letters and underlining .. There is a logic, but as you're not fond of it, I won't bother to explain ..I'm not that neurotic about it.
  14. if you look at stats, you'll find most players do ...a conversion rate of 1 goal to every 4 shots is considered quite good.
  15. of course they do ...it's part of the transfer scenario. Trying to push up the price by "suggesting " that other bids are in the offing, but more often it's the agent's promoting the story... by leaking details to " sleazy journalistic types who want a headline ". However, buying a player (or a house, or a car for that matter) is an auction at best, and a "rip-off " at worst.
  16. .but surely even that would be a bit boring to go back and forth to training every day !
  17. I'd guess that the clause was set in for both the club and the player's sake. They can set a price but agree to sell him for whatever sum they want under that...if they get desperate for money.
  18. ......so, someone meet him off the plane with a contract and get him alonhg to Lancaster Gate in a taxi..If thats the correct address these days ?
  19. I do think that this "waffle " from a so-called quality paper shows the lack of knowledge that SFC have with regard to young players... Do they think we are one of these debt-ridden clubs only too willing to hand over our " crown jewels " for a few million? Surely the original deals for Walcott, Bale and AOC are the yardstick for values to use ..and then only if we see that we don't need the player concerned. This type of " negative reporting " only goes to show the level that journalism has stooped to..attempting to turn the lad's head by waving a " big name club in the headline of the story. Do we/he / they ... know that someone at SFC has already put a £4 million price tag on the boy's head ? Shaw ..and a number of others ..have a better chance of getting games with us than with those other clubs mentioned. After the disgraceful "bargaining " that some journalists entered into... (taking on the role of an auctioneer)... prior to the AOC transfer, now those same people are now saying he is unsettled and wants away ! Why is it that no-one has dared to sue one of these "gutter jounalists " for libel.. as some "celebs " do ..and often win the case.
  20. Surely the " price " is the sum that we want for JP....if he goes. Rumour says it's £1 million -- so be it. JP 's agent says....several clubs are after him, so one of them can pay the price ..if they want to. The agent (Finnigan) has gone out saying that Ian Holloway is a personal friend of his...SO WHAT ? Does that mean that he expects a 35% discount if Blackpool buy him? Blackpool (and others) should realise the price is..the price. If you want the player ...pay up ... or shut up !
  21. just noticed that Dicksons debut game for Yeovil wasn't so memorable. They got dumped 4-0 at Bramall Lane by Sheff.Utd (for whom one J.Beattie came on as a late sub but didn't score).
  22. but seriously ..isn't the Solent fellow the main commentator ? ..and he refers to DM... for comments and evaluations.. Don't think I've heard DM giving a running commentary too often ..or ?
