Difficult to say, but I'm not sure about the moon-landing either, and all that business with JFK in Dallas...and area 51...
-
Guess thats the end of this thread - its all academic now ! if Pericard scores 20 goals by May, and Swindon go up , we can all say AP got it wrong , but that 'aint gonna happen.
-
you can plan all you like, but AP is picking the team. My bet he'll change the squad around all the time, allowing for injuries and suspensions, try different formations and when we win the play-offs ..we'll all say we knew he could do it all the time :smt023
-
..maybe he will sign someone else, give him a chance - it's only Thursday
-
Of course, there was that good old formation 2-3-5 ...that produced 100 goals one season ..Ah, those were the days ...my friends.... (never to be seen again)

Jon Otsemobor signed on 6 month contract
david in sweden replied to The Fat Controller's topic in The Saints
can't be any funnier than that story from former Leeds / England.. Jack Charlton. Leeds drew the Hungarian outfit Upjest Dojsa (or something similar) three or four times in a row in Euro competitions in the 1970's. None of the Leeds lads could get their tongue round that, so they called the " Uppsy Daisy" instead ! -
Clubs who are very short of money have to sell to survive...our situation last spring. Palace and Exeter are in that category. Norwich have been happy to have " Semi "as their right back for the last two years, but they have signed someone new - and are £22 million in debt. Managers have to make decisions to sell or let " high salary players" go and need money for new players, too. We have signed Semi for 6 months - no risk there. By the time we get to May, both he and Antonio will have proven they are good enough for AP - or not ! ..but at least we have cover in case of further injuries. didn't want... is a bit harsh. Leeds "didn't want" Dan Harding and he's been one of our most consistent performers this season. At least lets see these guys perform for a few games... before discarding them
-
second sight Andrew, I asked myself the same question ..will AP ever give him a start , or ?
-
No, but I was still dwelling on our "non-signing" of his brother when I read the Express story. MU surely expect a lot if their going to sell WR, especially as Berbatov is up for an op...they'll need a replacement soon.
-
WHEN was the last time Saints signed 3 players inside a week in the January window ? ..and it's only Thursday!
-
Apparantly, Norwich fan site says his nickname is ...SEMI ! (make what you can of that )
-
sounds cheap to me ..any advance on 30 million ? ..sorry Mr. Abrahamovic?.. ..its Chelsea on the line :smt023
-
your probably correct but I've just posted a thread about Rooney, I wonder if ...?
-
some stories up and running that we backed out of the Ward deal on Tuesday!
-
there has been a long thread about Saints signing the" little brother," but that story maybe eclipsed by the one about Man. Utd selling Wayne Rooney... in order to solve some financial problems. The Daily Express has run a story on this:eek:.... My question is ..Are we going to sign the youngster from Macclesfield because surely no-one will have the cash to sign WAYNE Rooney. If MU got £80 million for Ronaldo - how much for the England CF?

I was actually thinking metaphorically, not necessarily of their/his looks](*,) and their vigourous style of play. George Kirby was abit of a ladies favourite as I recall - not UGLY at all.
-
...think you have found the flaw in most peoples arguement against. I'm glad to see the new blood at the back, but without decent cover for Lambert we have no " real striker" in the forward line. I repeat my prev. comments. we need a tough, ugly, old-fashioned CF to terrorise the oppositions defence...scoring every match is not a requirement. George Kirby, Joe Jordan and Ian Dowie were good examples, they " made " goals for others by putting the fear of Christmas past into the defence.
-
....probably a bit easier than heading footballs all night, though.
-
to EVERYONE else in the squad. fairly obviously the new players will get their debut ASAP, but they are needed when you consider that Murty is out indefinetly, Jahdi for a couple of weeks - at least, and with Trotman gone, it's not as if we are OVER STAFFED. Rumours of Thomas moving back up north, it still leaves us a bit thin in the backline with Perry as the only other experienced defender available. Oh ye of short memory, it wasn't so many seasons ago that we had SIX central defenders injured at the same time...and early on in Strachans time we had FOUR injured strikers! The last thing we want is a long injury list when we're pushing hard for a play-off spot after Easter. Sure there's going to be a clear-out in the summer, but right now there are a lot of players OUT of contention for places and not so many that are both fit AND automatic choices. The more the merrier say I.
-
There seems to be a bit of that scenario at Staplewood. I recall that Connolly was "training with us " for some weeks before he joined us ! How many more "unmentionables" are jogging around out there - waiting to get fit and be signed?
-
for the record: I saw him on Euro TV in an international Sweden v.Malta last autumn. (The maltese 10 man wall kept out the Swedes till 81st min. and then Malts. lost 0-1... an own.goal ) HOWEVER; He was the one man forward line, had a blistering turn of pace, somewhat reminiscent of Marian Pahars - he was unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions.

Pardew on 'player not doing so well elsewhere...'
david in sweden replied to Fergie's topic in The Saints
I think it is Ward, same wording used by Coleman and Pardew, and Pericard is on a loan deal that runs out next week, so he's free to move then, and Carlisle are unable to keep him. -
Of course, there is a core of fans who come wind or high water, but every club has its following and every good run of wins add a few hundred more to the gate. I stood in 16,000 crowds at The Dell for several decades and as I recall the extra "fans" never seem to make much difference to the crowd noise. Messers Liebherr/Cortese are business men. They know an enterprise needs investment (at their level - SMS and Saints were " a steal ".) Buying top class CCC players for £1mill. are also a steal. Most clubs can only afford to breed them and then sell them on to other clubs who have money. They also know that a new business generally makes zero profit in the first year. By the time we get up to the top end of CCC..the investment will grow bigger and 30,000 crowds will be more commonplace - its just a matter of time.
-
you're quite right, he is, but although the languages have different pronunciations, I think the written form is quite similar. I'm sure he'd manage.
-
I don't this this is an issue. Messers Leibherr/ Cortese have said they have a 5 year plan. No-one expected that we would get promotion or a play-off place after starting with -10 points. The investment now is a big push to try and get into the top 6 by May. AP's job is safe - unless we slip back down to the bottom 6.
