Lambert hasn't scored from open play for 8 games!

True but I suppose with Poch coming in there has been a bit of a transition, Adkins sort of started to get us to press and work hard, in fact, he tried it against as with Reading and it sort of worked for 20 minutes. Poch has taken it to a new level though, but right now he doesnt have all of the positions filled with players that can do it. Ramirez can do it, with the right men infront and beside him. Rickie cant though, and problem being we can press effectively with him playing within the forward midfielders, nor do we really attack properly with him there as the wide men have to work harder to press and so are out of position. Itll always be susceptable to long ball yes, but those things can be worked on over time. No way of playing will ever be impenetrable. -
Jesus, if larsson and Johnson are out or carrying knocks then I really fear for Sunderlands top flight survival

Barry you never fail to reveal how little you actually understand the game at any level. Keep it up, its amusing

Well, thats sort of my point, who the hell is the striker !? I suppose J Rod sort of, but we seem to play a fluid front 3 with the focal point (RL) sitting deeper, for me we really need someone in the box. I like you like Rickie but find him v limited, if he gets dominated by a CB and the players around him are crowded out then he, along with our attack are snuffed out. In those situations Id much prefer to see him get further forward where he has a chance of nicking a goal from a cross etc In short, next year we need a real forward to lead the line. -
Im pretty sure that the club isnt about to rest on its luarels, certainly not from what I have heard and also what I have read in the press. To say that Survival is anywhere near underachieving with a team that is pretty much a relic of League 1 and NPC football with a spattering of additions, in our first season is laughable. Yes we spent money, we had to, but IMO we have done well. Stick a solid defender next to Maya and itll be a lot more solid (jos isnt the answer) then some pace, a forward that can lead the line and some more depth centrally and we will be ok. 39 points had us safe weeks ago for all etc a mammoth bottom 6 upturn in form and our own capitulation. How anyone can think that anywhere between 17th and 11th is mot good enough is deluded.

Villas-Boas "what a wonderful team Pochettino is building"
Smirking_Saint replied to positivepete's topic in The Saints
Therr really is no point in me quoting the original post as you have already hit the edit button but it was pretty obvious that Turks was discussing wingers and the fact ours rarely beat a man outside to deliver a cross the same as a winger would. Saints simply dont, Mayuka doesnt play (and when he does is v dissapointing) and J Rod isnt a bloody winger, yeah he can beat a man out wide but he more often then not drives inside. I have rarely seen any real crosses come in either from our wide midfielders, this is usually done by the fullbacks and the wide men drift inside. Lallana isnt a winger wither, nor is punch, more inside forwards and neither have the pace of Lennon or bale. Basically you have jumped two feet into an arguement without actually comprehending what was being said. I do hope you give your kids a little bit more of your time to think about things before jumping up and down with the Im the teacher Im right crap -

As a man that supposedly rates our players etc for a v popular footballing simulation I do often worry (and change some of the attributes I find incorrect) How can you say that JRod and Mayuka are wingers ? Unless your trying to support some arguement that isnt there ? -

I disagree, for a long time I have said that If we are to play Lambert as a false 9, trequartista, no 10 or whatever incumbent is popular at the time then drop him deeper and play a man infront of him with legs and a desire to get in the box. When he is the lone forward it for me is a negative when he drops back as you lose the focal point of the attack. For me Ramirez is perfect for that deeper role rickie plays ATM, you will have to change slightly as he isnt as good in the air but he will also allow you to keep playing the high pressing game that MP is trying to incorperate, RL hasnt the legs for that. IMO put someone mobile infront of Gaston and those passes will find their targets, its v difficult to play that AM role if the striker infront of you lacks legs (if your used to playing with one) as the instinctive balls through the back four will generally fail. -

AVB has already said he wants to put Bale back out on the wing but right now he is playing a free role due to necessity. Still, I thought AVB was a terrible manager ? Huge failure who would never mske it in the English game ? So what does he know ? -
As much as I agree with you I really dont know why you bother argueing with Duney boy. He and Alps have long been the most succesful trolls on the forum. Did I really read someone call Maya a disaster signing aswell ? Still goes to show, I said all along that 39 points is safety, and I also said at the time that 5 points at this time of year is a massive task for a bottom 3 team.

Thought this, wonder if he has been planning to retire over say the next three years but Jose is available now ? Makes sense to me, Moyes is decent but not proven himself at the top level. If they can beat Chelski's offer, and get Jose to play good football he will be there.

You know that the more you times you talk crap doesnt make it any more true ?
-
Fair play Glasgow, before my 4 month exile you were but a young padawan Troll, you read the books, you took note of Sir Alps and you have come out the other side as a full blown member of the trolling fraternity. Your still more annoying then actually comical, but fair play to the effort

Once again though, Ill pop up with that old adage that a striker should be judged in his goalscoring first and foremost. Plus Maloney is a midfielder. -
Coupled with your predictions we were going to be relegated for the past four years and obviously Wigan being so dominant for their last 4 games Im going to go ahead and say that out of the two of you I dont think its Gaston that best fits your analogy
-
Poor ol alps, nothing to talk about now until our god awfull transfer windows forces us it to yet another successful season
-
Tell me about it Tokes, you never quite get used to the feeling either, horrible going in and often horrible on the way out. They dont always leave the best taste in your mouth either with that thick gravy. Some people like it though, fair play to 'em
-
Really ? Especially Welbeck
-
Fair play to the lad, straight out of the Winston Bogard school of contract negotiation

Who at man utd is a top athlete but not trchnically skilled ?

We have enough to beat Sunderland, they dont worry me too much. If Shaw and Clyne play it should be enough to keep Rose and Johnson quiet, Graham doesnt look like doing anything anytime soon (which means he will probably score) my only worry is that Lambert doesnt look like scoring anytime soon either. I reckon we will nick it, a point will do for me though. Personally, I just want next season to hurry up so we can get some decent depth in the squad
-
Have you suddenly decided to become a one of the new negative trolling elite ? Your not very good at it
-
Wigan wont win tonight, draw at best. Regardless I think that there are atleast 3 worst teams right now, Sunderland looked hopeless enough last night despite Johnson and Rose playing well and Stoke looking useless. Newcastle are out of form and I cant see where Norwich are going to get any more points. We will be ok

You can cross the ball as much as you want if Rickie isnt making it into the box he still isnt going to score
