That was crablungs, I believe... anyone heard from him lately?!

But it can be used in place of other cash, which is then freed-up to cover debts or player wages. In effect the caveat means nothing. But, hey, as pointed out already it's but a tiny dent in their iceberg of a financial crisis.

I'll play! Okay, I may be the wrong side of 40 now, I'm only 5'8" and I'm not actually any good... but it's better than nothing. And picking me would be the honourable thing, too - because if the Football League don't hit them with a big points penalty, then putting me in goal instead will have about the same effect

HFRO is a great film apart from the accent thingy. Das Boot is my choice of best sub movie, though - any alternative suggestions?

What a lovely story - hope Ben gets well soon.

Thanks, mate - I've always liked Norwich and I've been really glad to see you guys doing so well this year. I hope we can emulate your success in the top flight next season - though I'd be happy with just staying up (at the start of this season I had no expectation of "doing a Norwich", and would have been happy with a top-ten Championship finish!).

I have to admit to getting just a little bit emotional at 2-0, as I reflected on our journey of the last three years - and how I wished Markus could have been here to see this match, and see what has been achieved thanks to his investment. And of course it goes far beyond just the money - it's the business plan and desire to get every aspect of the club right: doing things the right way. Thank-you Markus

Maybe they might manage to give Rossi a bike his talent deserves.

Norwich fan in trouble for leaking pictures of new kit?
Ric replied to sotonjoe's topic in The Lounge
I have to say that I usually like NCFC - but in this instance they should be ashamed of themselves. If they are complaining because they put the info up on their website, and someone found it, then they have only themselves to blame. So long as the kid didn't go any hacking, then they don't have a leg to stand on and it's their own website people that they should be looking at. -
Which pages on Ceefax/Teletext did you used to visit the most?
Ric replied to jawillwill's topic in The Lounge
101 & 102 for the main news headlines. 160 for the local news. 302 for the football, and 390 for the local sport (which usually led on to 391 for anything Saints-related, being the top club in the region). 360 for everything F1. I'd also occasionally check the lottery draw, which was page 555, I believe. All on Ceefax, naturally. ITV's Teletext service was - as usual - the poor relation to what the BBC had to offer. Didn't Channel 4 have 4Tel, or am I confusing that with something else? Never looked at it. -
Sorry if I'm being dim - especially if it's already been answered and I've just missed it - but in the list of creditors many of them don't have an entry under the claim. Does that mean that they aren't actually owed any money? Or is it that TB doesn't know how much they are owed? Or might they be owed something, but TB isn't sure?

We (effectively, with the aid of goal difference) need just two wins to go up. Unless we completely implode in the last four games, it's all about the title (I don't even want to start thinking about that...). On the form of the last few games, it's hard to see Reading dropping points against Palace or Forest - but I could see us dropping points against Peterborough or Middlesbrough. If we want the title, only a win will do on Friday.

I don't understand the confusion here. He's got a long association with PFC, and wants them to do well. But he's employed as a pundit, and in that role he needs to be fair and impartial - which he does. If he's watching Saints v Portsmouth of course he'll support the skates - but after the match, in his pundit role, he'll give a balanced view of what went on. You might not always agree with what he says - but then the skates won't always agree with what he says about them, either. It is actually possible to be a supporter of a club, but not be wearing their shirt every second of every day.

In footballing terms, you're absolutely right Wurzel. The point on Saturday guaranteed the play-offs at the very least and returned us to the top of the league. And, throwning the win on Monday into the equation (and West Ham's draw) things are looking very nice indeed. But in local rivalry terms it was very disappointing. We let them off the hook in a dire game at their place, and on Saturday - despite dominating the game completely - we let them off the hook again. Saturday was a chance to get a little payback for a couple of very bad results we've had against them - and we blew it. The footballing perspective is far and away the most important thing - so I'll take the four points from two games without question, but there was a bonus prize on offer, and we didn't take it.

That's not entirely true. We do have a rough idea of how old it is, how fast it's expanding and how big it is. I say "rough" because in most other areas of science an estimation that's ten times bigger or smaller than the real value would be useless, but in astronomy it's considered reasonably accurate. So we don't have a nailed-on accurate answer for the precise size of the universe, but to say it's pure guesswork is untrue.
-
The universe isn't infinite - it has a definite size, and it is expanding. It isn't expanding into anything, because by definition there isn't anything outside the universe for it to expand into.

How on earth can they not have Rickie as no.1?

None of the content is in the slightest bit surprising for anyone who knows anything about football - and that's the saddest, and stupidest thing. It's 2012, FFS. Football has consistently shown itself to be reluctant to change on any front, and always has to be dragged kicking and screaming towards anything vaguely like the attitudes of the rest of society.

Swarfega. I had a tub of it by the kitchen sink, as you do. The Mrs thought it was just ordinary hand wash... D'oh! Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk

Maybe Reading, West Ham & Birmingham should cancel the loans and send them back to Portsmouth...
-
Thanks for digging those up - I hadn't realised until a couple of years ago that someone had put them up on YouTube. Now the whole world gets to hear my foul language
-
Of course - in fact, we probably won't even need four wins. Both Reading and West Ham will drop points (beyond the match on the 31st). West Ham have yet to play Birmingham, Brighton and Leicester. Reading have yet to play Leeds, Brighton, Birmingham and us. Between the three of us there will be a lot of points dropped between now and the end of the season. But I'm not happy with "probably" - I firmly believe that we're going up, and I'm fairly confident that we'll win the league. But until it's signed, sealed and delivered I'm not counting any chickens. The five wins we need can't come soon enough
-
Which is exactly the calculations I made: 14 points means four wins and two draws - or five wins to keep it simple. Four wins on their own, whether or not we beat Reading, is only 12 points and is therefore not enough.
-
I could only see it working if the player (with or without help from the club) already had an offer from another club lined up. If a player is out of contract, I believe that they can be signed at any time in the season (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). It couldn't be a transfer, so PFC wouldn't get any money - but they'd be reducing the wage bill. But without another club to go to immediately, I don't see why a player would think for a moment of this option. I'm assuming that cancelling the contract "by mutual consent" wouldn't stop the player being able to claim unpaid wages from when they were at the club.
-
No, for mathematical certainty we need five wins. That would put us on 93 points. Reading can get a maximum of 94 points, and West Ham a maximum of 93. Take into account the fact that they play each other and we need 92 points to be absolutely certain of finishing second. Even if we beat Reading, another three wins on top of that wouldn't be enough as things stand to guarantee promotion. Yes, all three teams will drop points between now and the end of the season, so four wins is more than likely enough... but right now, we need to win five of the last seven to get promoted. (Or, if you want to be uber pedantic, four wins and two draws.)
