  1. Absolute ********! So what if Millwall do come down, their fans that started trouble here in the league game got battered? I used to live in Surrey Quays 5 mins from the Den - contray to myth, Millwall's fans aren't 7ft 30 stone baby eating monsters, most, infact are scrawny pink hackett polo shirt wearing mouth pieces. Anyway, good to see the usual rumour mill rubbish has begun!
  2. Just read the Autobiography of a guy called Thomas Cochrane (google him - true British Naval fighting legend), on his first meeting with Nelson he was a young Midshipman eager to impress him so started talking about manouvers/ charts etc. Nelson stopped him and said "forget your charts and manourvers, all you need to know to be a great captain is simply whenever you see the enemy, don't dilly dally - get into them". Quality advice!
  3. Ha, got 2 tickets on my season ticket last week for the back of block 2, the ticket office have sent me 2 tickets each for the same seats, as we're part of a group all standing I can give the 2 spares away to mates not on the database and they can stand in with us! Looks like we'll be at least 2 over capacity! Lovely stuff!
  4. err, yeah, proper BNP old Joyce! No - she likes to talk to someone with an accent she understands from an area she knows (if the drivers from say, Shirley, she'll start chatting about the X family from Shirley Warren where she grew up etc). She feels intimidated by people not of the same cultural background as her - the same goes for '000's of old people all over the country. As for the racist point, my Gran survived the blitz living in Shirley whilst my Grandad was fighting in the Navy, she's never felt any anymosity to the Germans and was part of a generation that stood up to facism in a way a lot of today's PC brigade would never have the bottle to. If she, or anyone of her generation, want to have a chat with an English driver safe in the knowledge they are going the quickest route whilst having a chat on the way then good luck to 'em!
  5. I don't see any harm in it. My Gran gets cabs all the time to get around and she won't get in one with a foreigner. She's 85 and likes to have a chat with the driver and not be ripped off by being taken a moody route to or from the General. This sort of info is helpful to someone like her. You can be as PC as you like, but a lot of people "of a certain age" just don't trust foreigners. I work in London and have to say the cabbies up here are superb! The knowledge is an amazing thing and the service you get from cabs are part of what makes London one of the greatest cities in the World (anyone that has been driven in a sat nav guided Addison Lee car by a foreign driver with no common sense will testify to this), I just wish we could have a similar standard test to our drivers in Soton.
  6. Exactly, after the Joiners they'll be bricking it! The super hard skates were put well on their toes that day and the few that stood got battered! Not once have Pompey had it their way against us - not once! People on here worrying that they are all some sort of 6ft 8, 22 stone super thugs are way way way off the mark. God, even the Macedonia game is a great example, rumours of 2/300 657 coming up got hundreds of Saints out baying for blood - what happened? A pathetic and **** scarred mob of about 30 Pompey were escorted 3 deep by OB as young and old saints tried to get at them through Kingsland Market. Up the Saints!
  7. FOA - Ponty, can't reply to your PM, drop me an email (should be on your contact details for me) and I'll happily answer your question to verify it.
  8. Forte deal is almost signed, has been in the pipeline for ages apparently. How do I know this? I'm good mates with another player we have had a bid accepted for and he's mates with Forte (different club though). This player will be our biggest signing of January (unless we go crazy) and will cause a stir as people are expecting him to be signed by a prem club and go up a division rather than drop one. No, not saying who as he's a good mate and don't want to f*ck this up for him. Hopefully deal will be done in next 2/3 days. If admin want to email me and ask me I don't mind letting you know. What i will say is this player is massively impressed with Saints, both the Manager and the Owners, and we're getting a reputation amongst other clubs as the one with the most potential outside the premiership for the next 2/3 years, oh and we're known for having "loadsa money" too!
  9. Personally I'm not going up there anyway. They are a disgrace of a club and there's no way Franchise FC/ Winkleman et al will get a single penny of my money!
  10. You want to read that again? Are you seriously arguing that every person that has lost their job in the biggest recession in living memory did so needlessly because "They had their jobs BEFORE the recession". One of the most insane comments I think I've ever read!!!!!
  11. OK - Postal Worker: "I want job security in an industry that is haemorrhaging cash and losing the confidence of the public." I havn't job job security, I just work as hard as I can to exceed my bosses expectations in me, that way when (not if) redundency comes round again I'll be in a strong position. If I lose my job I'll get out and work my arse off to get another job. I'm genuinely astonished that anyone expects job security and/ or pay rises in the middle (or end if you believe Darling) of the biggest reccession in living memory!
  12. And the weather was particulary nice that day meaning I got the Thames Clipper from Waterloo to work, something I've done on every sunny day since. Seams that anyone that strikes these days has been used to cushy pay and conditions and doesn't like being brought into line with the commercial sector: RMT - Excellent pay and benefits (loads of holiday, free transport for family members etc). If they advertised a tube drivers job in any newspaper they would get deluged with applications! Postie - "Job and knock, down the pub by 11am after 4 hours, lovely jubbly - oh ****, what d'ya mean you want me to do another round and/or sort to make up my shift time?" BA - Pay above rest of industry, good benefits. Plenty of Virgin staff there to take their positions if they want to leave! Personally work in a very competitive sector of an industry that's had a tough year, everyone has had a pay freeze and reruitments been put on hold to reduce head count meaning we are doing more work after making 80 people redundent this time last year. Do I moan, nah, just get on with it and greatful I've got a job that pays my way down the pub.
  13. Personally need to get 9 tickets.
  14. Personally I can never trust the French, hiding in their wine cellers whilst we bailed them out against the Germans (see also Belgians). The Spanish are lazy and work shy (see also Italians and Portugeeze). Eastern Europe want subsidies and access to our benefits systems. I trust none of them, they have different cultures, languages and values to us. I'm proud to be British, we have a fantastic history in war/ medicine/ sport/ engineering and welfare to it's citizens. This small Island once had a 1/3 of the World under it's Sovereignty and that influence benefitted many nations and can still be felt in India and the Caribbian today. To not want to be part of a European State without being asked first does not mke me ill informed or small minded, patriotism seems to be a dirty word these days with accusations of racism thrown around at anyone that dares says they are proud of our nation and it's history. I don't want to dillute that by being "european". Watched the excellent BBC documentory on Churchill earlier this week, the full speach "we will fight them on the beaches" and the context in which it was in made me incredibly proud of our fighting Island mentality, one which whilst people that fought in that war are still alive, we should be proud of - not ashamed.
  15. Thing is though mate, I'm sure they would have gone through a consultation period where he/ she could have re-applied for their job. At the moment there are a lot of good people about, if they advertised that position chances are they would have got a **** hot candidate in or 2?
  16. "From the sound of it..." So you seriously think a group of 30/40 somethings decided to batter 2 lone innocent Yoevil fans quietly making their way home yeah? They were part of a group of 8-10 Yoevil fans in the King Alfred who goaded Saints fans with insults and got the trouble they were looking for, the fight spilled onto the street and the 2 injured were constantly told to walk away but they (bravely or stupidly) kept coming back for more trouble. Check your facts first.
  17. These guys aren't going around and battering lone away fans, families or old ladies. The only people that will get any sort of problem from this set of fellas are away fans that come down here looking for trouble and generally after for aggro. If a fellow saints fan robs an old lady or beats up a guy with a kid then maybe I'd shop them, but having a row with like minded individuals - not my problem.
  18. You (and Society in General actually) think they are more worthwhile. But I'd say my Mate's job is as worthwhile if not more so, his taxes (both personal and corporate) pay for dozens of teachers and nurses saleries every year. The thing that gets me is people that moan about others pay, if it's pay that motivates a teacher or nurse then they can head to the City and (with lots and lots of hard work, application and a bit of luck) end up earning multiples of their salary - my mate had f*** all in terms of qualifications. If it's not money that motivates people then they should be grateful for the taxes my mate sends their way to pay for new equipment and salaries.
  19. Ahhh, the old "bankers are corrupt" line. My mate at JPM made his company tens of millions last year by evaluating stoks and darivatives accross the globe and finding companies that are undervalued then investing in them (actually there's more to it than that but it's seriously boring). He works bloody hard, 16 hour days and enjoys the fruits of his labout by sending his son to one of London's top Private schools, owning an amazing 5 bedroom house backing on to a golf course in Surrey, a beautiful wife that is a Corporate Lawyer, drinks vintage wine, drives amazing cars (or travels first class on trains and planes), holidays in Tuscany or the Seychelles and has a great apartment in Cannes which is rented out for exorbanant amounts. All by the time he's 33! He's well on course to retire at 45 (he's already well into golf lessons in preperation). I personnally am proud of him, he left Wildern with hardly any GCSE's, got 1 A-Level (in History) and worked his way up through a number of different Trading companies (inc Cantor and BGC) 'til he was Head Hunted by JPM. Since arriving there he's made his company, his clients and himself huge amounts of money - all of which is taxed at 50%. He could have stayed in Southampton and settled for an average job on average money but he took a punt on giving it a go in London, worked hard, done his Finance exams and is where he is. Met him and a few mutual mates for lunch at Le Coq de Argant on Monday (he was buying), JPM (and Sachs) are paying huge bonuses this year due to so many people being head hunted from European (mainly Swiss) Banks looking for our best talent, they can afford to pay smaller basic salarys and bonuses knowing their tax rates are far lower. Those on here obviously jealous of another's success (in America we'd be applauding them before getting back to the immediate task of bettering ones self to give themself and their family a comfortible future) should bear in mind that if we keep squeezing this country's wealth creators - they'll go somewhere where their skills are appreciated.
  20. Made a lot of them very (property) rich via the Right to Buy scheme.
  21. Of course I do, all the more reason for me to work harder and earn more money so my kids can go to a Private School and so I can afford them the books, Computer, sports equipment etc. I work in a job dealing with response statistics (exciting eh) and I'd say the gap between 94% and 66% is pretty damn significant! Personally went to a State School (Wildern) and my Mum was a Head of Year in an inner city Southampton School for 20 years so nothing against them at all - as I've said before though, nothing wrong with bettering yourself and giving your kids the best possible chance in my optinion.
  22. In 2008 95.3% of Private School pupils achieved grades a*-c compared with 65.7% at State Schools. http://www.isc.co.uk/FactsFigures_GCSEResults.htm Qualified teachers or not they're doing something right.
  23. Personally come from a Labour supporting family, however having made my own way in life and purely by working f*cking hard and wanting to better myself getting promoted a few times (and falling into the 40% tax band) I'm sick to death of the few bailing out the many. I'm not on super wages, but I don't begrudge people that are, personally I'm ambitious and I'd love to be in their position earning high 6 figures, as it means I can take my kids around the world, send them to the best schools and generally give my family financial security. Why in this country are people so jealous of success? - not everyone, my group of mates all went to the same school and some are doing better than others but none think the world owes them a living and they all work hard. But there seems to be an undercurrent of resentment at anyone wanting to better themself or their family? I've got a good mate that works as a front office trader for JPM, he got a bonus of £200k last year, bought a apartment in Cannes with the money - but he starts work at 5am to get the Asain markets and doesn't finish 'til gone 9pm after the US is well under way, he made the company millions last year so deserves every penny. My company imposed a pay freeze for fiscal 09/10, what ****es me off is Public Sector workers wanting pay increases and job security - something NO-ONE in the Private sector get, therefor I agree wholehartedly with Cameron freeezing pay for anyone on over £18k except for frontline armed forces - that's another thing the Labout Government have completely lost me on - the disgusting treatment of our armed forces, GB spent 35 seconds talking about them in this key note speech, a disgrace! Brown has dithered his way through his unelected Premiership, the lack of vote on the Constitution was a clear cut lie (not saying I'd vot no, just wanted to be asked) and his farcical handling of the biggest poltical scandal this decade (expenses) - no-one can deny Cameron led the way in dealing with that quickly and decicively, oh and all you holier than thou socialists out there, for every Tory grandee claiming for a Duck house, there were 2 sly Labour Champagne socialist MP's claiming for dodgy second homes, hanging baskets and home shopping. The Lib dems are not worth bothering about as they'll never get anywhere near. Rant over.
  24. There are no decent full service media agencies in or around Southampton (Lawton are the best and they specialise in recruitment). Most big London Agencies (Carat, Media Edge CIA, Mediacom, Maxus, Vizeum etc) will offer a placement with expenses paid if he's good enough. If he's serious about getting into that business he's going to have to be prepared to move to London anyway so it will be good practice.
