Interesting interview on SSN today with Big Sam. He was first asked of his assessment of Saint's and Reading's achievements in the season so far - and he was hugely complimentary about Saints and the fact that they have remained consistently in the top 2 all season. There was also a slightly surreal moment when he was asked about how his players were handling the pressure and he said something along the lines of "you can hear the lads now, really enjoying their training"....and you couldn't hear a thing! The interviewer laughed because he thought Sam was being ironic - but I don't think he was. He could just hear something we could not Asked if he had given up on the top two and naturally he said no. If they win all their games they will have 88 (enough for auto-promotion last season) - and if they do that he believes they will be in the top 2. I expect the interview will appear in full at some point on the Sky Sports website.

We could win two 1-0 and lose two 4-0. Then, I believe, we could have an issue if WH win all four of their games. As you can tell, I am always considering the worse case scenario until it is no longer possible

What about when Rednapp left Pompey and took over at Southampton? Pompey fans were going ballistic because Claridge defended Rednapp's right to make the switch. I remember a phone-in where Pompey fans were saying "how can you say that when you are supposed to be a Pompey fan" - to which his reply was (roughly) "I am not a Pompey fan - I am just an ex-Pompey player. I am also an ex-(list of several) player also". Sure, given the choice between the two teams in a head-to-head contest he will be rooting for Pompey - but that doesn't stop him from offering fair comment in his professional capacity as a pundit.

I don't give a tinkers cuss about the Pompey game now. At the end of the season, the only thing they may have to make them feel better are two draws against Southampton. Two paltry points in a season of disaster. I will be quietly satisfied if their points total (ignoring the 10 point deduction) is still not enough to keep them up
