What nonsense. We were definitely not comfortable before the substitution of Puncheon. We were on the back foot for most of the half and coming under increasing pressure. Replacing Puncheon with Chaplow helped sure us up a little bit down our right side because he provided a bit more cover for Yoshida. The Lambert/Guly sub was a bit more worrying, but as it turned out Guly was just as effective has Lambert when he came on, probably more so. The substitutions did not weaken us IMHO, nor did they directly contribute to goals we conceded.

Did it though? I think we were on the back foot anyway. It certainly didn't go to rat sh!t when the subs were made, it was poor anyway. As I said on another thread, the first sub was forced on him, the second sub was probably correct also. The only slightly debatable one was Lambert, but only because we went 1-2 down and I could see us scoring an equaliser with him off the pitch - but fortunately we did.

His first sub was forced and his second sub (Chaplow for Puncheon was probably correct). The only questionable one was the Lambert sub, but Guly did OK and certainly did not render us less potent up front. We were on the back foot for most of the second half anyway. I certainly do not accept the premise that today's subs were the reason we went from 1-0 to 1-2.
