You have a point. I firmly supported the Iraq war because it was the right thing to do. I never did believe the spin about WMD's and the "war on terror" because I saw Saddam as a dictator and as such self preservation was always his agenda. My support for the conflict was based purely on the oil issue.

John Redwood has always been one of my favourite Conservatives because he represents the part of the party that I support because he speaks sense and isn't afraid to say it like it is. He was on the panel of last nights Newsnight and got it spot on. From 6 minutes 25 secs for the debate, but the build up story is before the debate: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00xxggd

"Customer Service" in this country is absolutely dreadful
dune replied to trousers's topic in The Lounge
I'm with BT Broadband which is more expensive than most ISP's but I find the service to be reliable. If I have a problem (which is very rare - must be about a year or more since I had cause to ring them) I alway press for the option to join BT Broadband because you never get put through to an Indian when they're after your money .... I wonder why. I then ask to speak to a British person or to be put through to the cancellations department. It's amazing how they find a British operator very easily. That said on one occasion I got put through to an Irish Asian - not sure of this was with BT though. -

And you then retain customers. This is capitalism at work. Many organisations are now finding that it's a false economy to use overseas call centres. -

That makes me think of extended warranty insurance on electrical items. I never ever purchase it because it's a rip off BUT when making a substantial purchase e.g a large TV I often get a discount by enquiring about cover during their sales pitch. Once at the till I then politely decline. Up until the other week I believed the stories about Plasma TV's needing to be re-gassed so never bought one, but in fact it's just a lie peddled by salesmen to get people to take out an extended warranty. All Plasmas are sealed unites and they cannot be regassed. They last just as long as any other TV. -
Red Ed will hopefully stay as leader, but I can see him being replaced before 2015. He's too much of a nerd to ever win a general election.

"Customer Service" in this country is absolutely dreadful

I have never bought anything from a cold caller, and I never will. Only this evening I picked up the phone and was instantly given a recorded message saying i'd won an all inclusive cruise and to press 9 to claim it. I let the message repeat in the hope that it'd add to their phone bill and the line then automatically went dead. I'm suspicious that if i pressed 9 the call would be charged to me - can anyone say whether this might have happened? -

Ringing a call centre and being put through to an operator in Bombay or Delhi never fails to annoy me. I can never understand what they are saying and they never have the authorty or knowledge to deal with a problem. I always end up asking to speak to supervisor and I demand the telephone number to speak to a British operator. It's no co-icidence that many insurers now see the selling potential of advertising the fact they use UK call centres - clearly they understand that there is a large swathe of people in the UK that are just like me. -
But then there's the brentford and notts county game to take into consideration. We have good players, but they need to learn how to play well consistently against different scenarios.

I can't say I blame you after the way you were treated.

Crazy. To put it into context that's 3/4 of the cost of building St Marys. Football really is a joke nowadays. No wonder we get ripped off at the turnstiles.

Excellent. Couldn't have hoped for more.

Interesting post here... http://www.iii.co.uk/investment/detail/?display=discussion&code=cotn%3ASOU.L&thread=7594179&it=le&action=detail&id=7594179 It seems to be a safer bet than DES as they're running out of bullets, wheras SOU have 12 months of working capital at least to fund the enlarged business. If you fancy it have a punt and on your head be it - the dilema is whether the current price is a spike as per the historical pattern. Perhaps best to risk missing the first boat because it's extremely news sensitive and based on what has happened before if you buy now you could be looking at a 30% paper loss in no time.

I used to enjoy whickers world and Alan once said "never attempt to converse with the natives in their language as it puts you at an immediate disadvantage" and I have always stuck by these wise words. When David Niven was caught up in the boxer rebelian in 55 Days At Peking you didn't hear him trying to talk his way out of trouble in pidgeon Mandarin. It's very un British to ever attempt to speak a foreign language.

I realised that soon after posting.

NVTA dropped which was disapointing, but with GAM (private firm) due to re-open the Wodgina mine it explains the rushed RNS from NVTA. It's interesting that on the TSX NTA (what they call NVTA) were up 7% yesterday and 9.76% today. There was a large buy at the close in London which bodes well for tomorrow reversing the decline. The re-opening of Wodgina does however signify a positive in that they clearly expect the spot price for Tantalum to remain bullish in 2011 because otherwise operating in Australia wouldn't be feasible with higher overheads and a strong AUS $. The operation in Mozambique can run profitably at a far lower spot price because of a competitive exchange rate and paying workers wages relative to their needs. Tantalum is an important element used in Blackberrys and iphones as well as being an important rare earth metal in optics, aeronautics and in medical equipment. With NVTA now achieving greater efficicencies and with a mines in production and other areas currently under exploratory licence the only way is up. The continued trouble in Eastern Zaire is also beneficial because under the US conflict minerals legislation they cannot export Tantalum to the USA. Of course China will have no qualms about buying on the black market and they are the largest importer, but the USA is also a large market so as long as the warlords continue fighting (and the war officially ended in 2003) the furture is rosy for responsible supplies of Tantalum. I'm also liking the ceo and what he has done since taking over..

You are joking, right? I shudder at the thought of having a prime minister like Obama.

He didn't deny it.
