Saints had a thriving Junior Saints and Family Centre right throughout the 80s. Plenty went to football as kids through the 70s and 80s without any problems. Yeah those modern celebrity things, not like Kevin Keegan, Shilton, etc of the 80s. Who has said football will never change? No-one. You're off your head if you think we're on a par with Newcastle, Man City, Arsenal or whoever and are about to start playing in the Champions League.

The big clubs will still make far, far more money than the smaller and medium sized clubs and will continue to dominate. It will make it a lot more difficult for small clubs such as Wigan that have relied on a local benefactor for support.

So what's your point on this thread apart from suggesting that football might change a bit in the future? Please tell me which points I've failed to address and I'll happily explain to you where they're wrong.

Yeah I'm sure plenty of City fans have looked at the money spent on their club over the last couple of years and thoguht they'd never achieve anything ha ha ha. Newcastle are a much bigger club than us, with greater resources, they're having their best season in many, many years, other big clubs are having really poor seasons and keep stuffing up, yet Newcastle STILL aren't going to qualify for the Champions League. Please don't tell me you're one of those loons that see Saints as a similar sized club to Newcastle?

Why didn't we sell out week in week out in the early 80s then? European football, towards the top of league, where were the thousands of glory hunters then? All these people in Salisbury and Gosport desperate to see a successful team..............

Show me an example of anyone on here accepting mediocrity? There must be plenty going from your post above, so lets see them all? We've all "asked those questions" already, that's why we're laughing at the likes of you expecting Champions LEague football in the next 5 years. Also, you talk of Man Utd's historical support? Check out their attendances when they were in the 2nd division. That will tell you why they are a massive club and far bigger than we can aspire to.
