  1. I remember when I was a lad in the late 70s/early 80s when a bloke down my road was keeping something in his shed that stunk the entire street out for months, and the authorities did nothing about it. A couple of whiskeys on Guy Fawkes night later when he'd gone away, me and a mate went round to the field behind his house and blew his shed up with a home made bomb. The firework used was way more powerful than we thought so instead of blowing the door off as originally intended it sent the whole thing into the sky. We must have have run a good hundred yards from when he lit the fuse and we were still being showered with pieces of wood. As the field was in complete darkness no-one saw us. About 18 months later I joined the police force and being a paper pusher initially worked in the archives. I nearly died of laughter when I came across the old boy's original report in the 'unsolved' section when in the notes it said something along the lines of "most likely cause was spontaneous combustion of an unknown substance contained within the shed, which was of an extensive volume"
  2. Capello's quit, I think alpine called it in another thread. It's gonna be 'arry
  3. The England team stopped being an England team about 10 years ago. It's no more than a brand full of overpaid and overrated journeymen who are exploited by the media is sell replica shirts. It's clear most of the players don't even want to be there and some players (like Gary Neville) have admitted this. Compare the attitude of the England team of 20 years ago which featured characters like Terry Butcher and Stuart Pearce with the attitude of today's team and it's an absolute disgrace. The players and the FA are controlled by money and nothing else. Redknapp will be the next England manager but I can't see him doing any better than anyone else who's done in the last decade. 'arry will be there just for the ride and he knows it.
  4. Even if they don't there is no way the judge will approve a WUO. It simply aint going to happen. Only if the media turn against them has it got a chance of happening. They'll either go in admin shortly before or the same thing will happen that happened last time, they'll get some stay of execution and go into admin again, until Chainrai finds some international criminal who has dirty money that needs getting rid of/fantasist who doesn't mind losing a couple of hundred million. Then in a 2-3 years the process will repeat itself again. Starting every other season with a points penalty will hold them back a bit but one day a long way away they'll eventually play the kids and gradually get on a sound footing again in today's equivalent of League 1/League 2
  5. I think you've made a meal of this idea
  6. Yep. It's probably getting on 10 years since I last supported the England team
  7. Course he'll get it.
  8. Interesting that AA is apparently incredibly disappointed that players didn't leave during the transfer window "that would have secured the club's short term future". Sounds like he's already directing the finger of blame elsewhere already.
  9. It ultimately comes down to the high court judge to make that call, and I don't think they have the guts to do so.
  10. So are they gearing up for admin and to ensure HMRC's debt is under a certain percentage again?
  11. An Egyptian journalist on the BBC reckons the rioters were pro-Mubarak supporters
  12. Al-Ahly are one of Africa's biggest clubs as well. Won the African Champions League 3 times in 4 years in the last decade
  13. They got no chance of getting Mattock back on loan for free, he's gone to Brighton for the rest of the season
  14. Mr Hleb has just been released from his contract at Barcelona
  15. Who on here is going to be first with Carlos Tevez?
  16. Considering Russia responded by practically crippling Georgia's entire military within 4 days I don't think they'll be bothering any further with that one.
  17. So it's not another "computer error" then
  18. Funnily enough I first discovered Gortoz A Ran a few months ago and it was one of the most beautiful pieces of music I'd heard in years
  19. I know some people are saying Pompey will probably go into administration again, but technically have they even come out of admin from the last time?
  20. I've actually been wondering the same but I don't think it is ultimately down to the PL/FL. It is ultimately down to the judge in the court, who know full well their name will be in the headlines if they decide to wind up a football club with a profile like Pompey's. And I'm afraid this will be a big factor in their decisions which is why there is an unwritten line between the PL/Championship and certain League 1 clubs that are currently above the law due to their size and the witchhunt-style coverage of the media in today's society. As we've seen the PL are too worried about their brand and money to give a toss about the law, the FL can only punish accordingly to when clubs break their regulations. I think Pompey have squirmed their way to perfection to avoiding any points penalties in the Championship so far but one day football's finances will all come crashing down. The only way to send out a message is by winding a club like Pompey up. Pompey's finances are ruined long term so if they aren't wound up they will be crippled for years and years. Whether it is decided that one day will be "enough" is another matter, but Pompey's continued financial recklessness is continually flirting with this.
  21. Your not going to start telling us golf related celebrity stories are you?
  22. That's partly why people watch it http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kk6Min-PBbY&feature=related Somehow you just wouldn't see that in any other tournament
  23. Anyone else see Gabon vs Morocco? Morocco go 1-0 up, Gabon turn it around to lead 2-1 after 78 mins, Morocco get a penalty in the 90th min and score to make it 2-2. Then Gabon get a free kick and Mbanangoye hits a 98th minute 25 yard screamer to win it 3-2 for Gabon. Sensational stuff
  24. If that's the case we got no chance
