Liverpool 2-1 Saints - Match Thread

I don't blame Macca at all. Everyone knows he's not great with the ball at his feet. From where we had the ball, it should never have been passed back, we conceded because we played it too safe and should have been looking to play it forward. That's the problem. -
The Ryder Cup was on that weekend as well

Last night's game showed who needs to start and who needs to be dropped. Dropped - Downs. Just awful. Take him out of the team and work with him in training. THB - He's had a bad start to the season. Still affected by the injury maybe? Needs a period out of the team in any case. Joerslev - needs to improve. Starters - Armstrong out on the right, Jelert, Downes, Wood One noticable thing was how much better we were off the ball, particularly how often we won it in their final third. We should be pressing every team like that.

I thought after the Norwich game we'd turn the corner. May not be a bad thing that we've got 4 games in the next two weeks. Just need a decent performance and a result from somewhere. The Middlesbrough game does feel a bit like the Leeds game two seasons ago.

Shall we try and be optimistic? Will Still's results against Lens last season were a 1-0 defeat at PSG (with 10 men) and a 2-1 home defeat, the winner coming 4 mins from the end. With Reims the season before that they drew 2-2 at PSG. So from a tactical stand point he'll set us up to be difficult to beat at least. Might not be a bad thing because we're shit when we have lots of the ball. -
Something has to change and very quickly. Happy to give WS a chance but given that we signed the attacking players he wanted, things can't go on for too much longer without improvement on the pitch, because at the moment we are miles off it everywhere.

This is going to be a fucking disaster. It will be whatever Liverpool like scoring -0 Southampton -
I'm willing to give him a chance but he needs to find a win... somehow. Forget the Liverpool game but Middlesbrough might not be a bad game for us. They'll come here as favourites, maybe we can sit back and try and hit them on the counter, let them have the ball.

Definitely both. The perfect storm
-
One positive - Adam Armstrong. Actively involved and was trying to make things happen. Need him in the team.

For the amount of money we spent, this is up there as one of the worst signings we've ever made. Something is seriously wrong behind the scenes. Spors has to sort it out, that's his responsibility
-
The signs so far are not good. We haven't had a single decent 90 minutes in the league and every week the performances are getting worse. Worrying.
-
They blew their load trying to get the play-offs and finished 7th. They're definitely relegation contenders, we really have to win games like this. Tomorrow will tell us whether we're a promotion candidate or destined for mid-table this season.

Ticket releases for August and Portsmouth games?
Pamplemousse replied to Ekimr's topic in The Saints
It's never really been a problem - a few years ago when I was just a member, not a season ticket holder, I got to loads of the London away games, even Brighton our closest game once (when Bournemouth were in the Champ) Definitely something they'll have to think about. -

Bristol City tickets out tomorrow, 3400. Midweek game but suspect it'll go pretty quickly. And then Blackburn away on the Saturday afterwards. Anyone who wants a ticket will get one. After that it's the 3 London games all in a row. QPR is midweek so people may be lucky, but the Millwall and Charlton games on a Saturday will be snapped up rapidly. Charlton don't tend to sell out The Valley so if anyone did want to go in the home end that might be an option. -
It's the same away from home, usually you can barely hear the home fans but that's because often their main end is usually the opposite to where the away fans are sitting.
-
Burnley also had an early season draw at home to their local rivals Blackburn if we want to draw a further comparison
-
Don't want to call it a must win but if we are going to be challenging at the top end we need to go on a decent run. This season though has got 2005-06 vibes where we draw every bloody game.
-
Burnley drew at home to Blackburn very early on last season; they got promoted with 90+ points and won the away game...
-
Just shows how smalltime they are. They'll happily accept a defeat as long as they put in a decent performance "ah well, they had too much quality for us on the day" I couldn't care less how we play. We just have to win. If it's a last minute dive to win a penalty and we don't deserve it, so what. Winning is the only thing that matters.
-
We'll find out tomorrow! It worked for the West Brom game tbh so hopefully we get the same outcome
-
I don't want them too hyped up. They have a job a do and need to focus on the tactical side of things and work on the instructions the coaches give them to help us win the game. The emotional side of things will come naturally. It will be a raucous, hostile atmosphere. If they're not up for it before, they will when the walk out the tunnel to the noise of 28,000 plus roaring them on.
-
Stronger winds and wetter than the start of the match though, that was the point I was making.
-
Looks like the weather won't be as bad as forecast. Think the rain and strong winds might come in around the second half.

It's a very open league this year. Ipswich started poorly but seem to have got their act together, gifted by a shocking Sheff Utd defence. Makes our point up there look more and more like a brilliant result.
