Use of the word Militant to described Muslim terror groups
Minty replied to mightysaints's topic in The Lounge
Well according to Oxford: 'Militant: Favouring confrontational or violent methods in support of a political or social cause' Seems accurate to me. Perhaps it's your own interpretation of the word that is causing the problem, not their use of it? -
Good game IMO, for the good of our pre-season preparations (and not just some fans expectations) I think someone about their level is ideal.

Are we the preverbial poison chalice for managers...
Minty replied to SOTONS EAST SIDE's topic in The Saints
It's getting harder to tell the wind-up threads from real ones these days. -
That is not the problem. That is YOUR problem. If that question had been asked, what answer would you seriously have expected? Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

A) What does that fan know any more than you or I? B) 'Spoken to' might mean they asked if they would be interested, and they said 'No'. C) If I were any of them, I would attend any interview for a top flight side, within reason, and it certainly wouldn't indicate that I *didn't* want to join another club, just that it is good common sense to keep my options open. D) Alps has a job - people replying to him double the advertising revenue of this site... without him, the membership would be £10 each.

This is the one thing that often bugs me. I haven't seen Adam for many years but used to talk to him a fair bit when I was working at the club doing photography. Before that, when I used to write Academy features and reports for the Echo and I knew Graham Hiley and John May, there was often discussion about the articles written and the headlines or editing used by the sub. 'The Echo' are often criticised carte blanche, but the individual journalists do a good job in difficult times and circumstances, and are always being judged on what appears in the paper, which is often not what they wrote or how it was intended. Plus, whatever we think, most of these things are printed in good faith based on solid information, even if we don't *want* to believe it. Couple that with the fact that not everyone can have the 'exclusive' and all news will be rehashed to a certain extent, they are on a hiding to nothing a lot of the time. As always it comes back to us, the public, to do a bit of due diligence... to not hang on every word that is printed, but also to not dismiss it out of hand just because we don't like what we read.

The problem, I think we can ALL accept, is that everyone has a different level of expectation and anxiety. So as much as I completely agree with you, nothing you or I or others with similar views say will change the view of the likes of saintbob40, Wade Garrett etc, because this is all about our own personalities and how we deal with news and react to things. Which is why all of this discussion is ultimately pretty pointless.

Who said it was insignificant? No one. Just that it is just one part of a much bigger situation, most of which we don't know enough about, and all of which should be taken into consideration. And trust me, I do tend to ignore any forum '****storm', other than to try and understand why people feel the need to create said '****storm' in the first place. All of this is just your opinion though. Now it may be that you have knowledge and experience of all of these people, their professional experience, and suitability for the roles they've taken on but... and I'll apologise now if I'm wrong... I suspect you don't. So this 'sequence of failure' is your own perception based on... what exactly? Genuine question... why do you feel that way? It might help put your posts into some sort of context.

When in Europe this time last year, we actually went from Munich to Salzburg to Venice to Lake Como and then came back via the Bernina Express into Switzerland. Stunning all the way.

As angelman says, I'm not sure it is 'disastrous', just that you and some feel it is, for whatever reason. Fans can of course have concerns, but what we have are some fans making their minds up that the Board are not doing things correctly and passing judgement based only on their own perception of what is happening. If the players are being disengenuous, or the media are, or other outside influences is not 'another matter' - it is entirely part of the same matter, and should all be considered. No one is saying the club are perfect and will do nothing wrong - it may well be that they could've communication better with players, we simply don't know. But to judge the club so finally as some are doing based on minimal information is rather one-sided.

This is the basis of most fan accusations... not that what is happening is any different to most of the real world, but that it doesn't match their own demands and expectations. Anyone who has ever done any recruitment knows that even for the most basic position, it can take weeks, for a whole host of reasons.

Oh and finally, wherever you're looking to go, consider Airbnb for accommodation (http://www.airbnb.co.uk). Something for all budgets, and you get to meet some great people who can help you with sights and things to do/go etc.

A quick note for Munich - the Bier Kellers are awesome. Augustinerkeller was our favourite (actually in the 'financial district' - http://www.augustinerkeller.de/en.htm), but you should probably visit the Hofbrauhaus too in the centre, because of the history. There are 6 main ones, all worth a look and, of course, a beer or 3. As someone who is not much of a beer drinker, it was lovely... none of the chemical ****e you get in most commercial beer, and of course a great place to socialise and meet locals. And if you do go to Munich, I would thoroughly recommend going on one of the Sandemands free city tours. (http://www.newmunichtours.com/) We had Jonathan, and English chap whose girlfriend is German and it was really interesting. You tip him at the end depending on what you feel it was worth, hence they put a lot of effort in. There are other paid tours too.

Why? Genuine question - what factors do you think are at play here, and how is the time taken to appoint somehow linked to whether Les was being honest or not? Personally, I think that a robust recruitment process *should* take time. I would be worried if it were too quick.
-
More to the point, why should anyone who did feel reassured by it, NOT now feel reassured, just because one more piece of alleged information has come out? People (not just you) need to stop reacting to every tiny rumour. Turn the computer off, go do stuff, come back every few weeks to judge the situation on EVERYTHING that happens, rather than knee-jerking your way to a breakdown because you hang on every word that comes from, literally, anywhere. And I do mean that seriously... it's not healthy for some of you.

I don't see the point of viewing it as an 'interview' as such. It was a club statement, delivered in a less formal way.
-
If there is anyone else who didn't know, they're not going to admit it now, and let CB Saints take centre stage.
-
Of course it is Duncan, it always is, and every fan recognises that. But unless you think they're lying or deliberately misleading us in some way, which would be quite some accusation, I would suggest that at face value, most fans will be happy with what Les said.
-
I wondered how long it would be before someone mentioned Rickie. I think that was covered at the time by Kruegar and Rickie himself, and personally don't see the point in dredging it up again... And it was a club video, so clearly they're only going to talk about things they want to talk about... bit harsh to criticise the interviewer who is just doing his job as per the Club's wishes.

Well, looky here, I was right Alps. Shucks.

The truth is usually a murky grey colour. So we may have had a bid, and we may even have agreed a fee, on the proviso that the new manager has the final say. Or we have had a bid and rejected it or not responded. Or we may have had an enquiry but no bid. Or nothing at all. Who knows? It just means any FINAL decision has not been taken yet.
-
Quite possibly, but one thing I do know for sure is that I'd trust the clubs scouting and recruitment department over you, me, or any other fan. And given that the same department found Pochettino, I'm quietly confident.
-
Important thing to note is that, despite concerns otherwise, there doesn't seem to be any difference between the recruitment process this time around, compared to last, except perhaps for who carries out the final rubber stamping. We have a recruitment team who have a succession plan (like all good businesses would) for key personnel, and we're looking set to recruit one of our primary targets. It is only one small part of the overall scheme, but there is nothing here that prompts any doubt or worry in my mind and I would suggest that anyone who is cynical about it, is only reflecting their own personal outlook, rather than a fair judgement of what information there is in the public domain.

All sounded perfectly sensible to me. Look forward to seeing who the new manager is. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

And the point I've also been making... who else was here with 'football know-how' (I hate the phrase to be honest) when it was just Cortese at the helm? Yet only now he comes in for criticism...?
