  1. And that is from the Chairman of the largest shareholder group in the club... someone you might hope (if you were a member of the Trust) would at least have some basic semblance of understanding of accounting.
  2. It was only a matter of time before someone who doesn't understand the polar vortex/jet stream issue created something like that to try and point score. Took longer than I thought though... Where did you find it?
  3. So does that make it appropriate for you to generalise about all 'left wing believers'?
  4. There's a lot of consensus on this thread, which is rare, but the need for Alps to trot out the 'loony left' line is pathetic. I agree with most of what has been written... Duggan put himself in a position where it was indeed 'lawful' that he might be shot by having the gun in the first place. I wouldn't criticise the Police on this one and think it was a fair verdict. But I'm a 'lefty'... so where does that leave Alps' lazy generalisation? Why does he do it? Why does anyone for that matter? Just makes him/them look stupid.

    Speakers

Funnily enough, I imagine we would have the same problem, although the wife prefers them without the grill on. Out of interest, how much did they cost new 14 years ago?
  6. Given that some of you must have some knowledge about music systems and speakers, I wonder if any of you would mind taking a peek at this thread...? Ta.

    Speakers

Have finally bought a decent sound system (Marantz S-CR503 - can't afford separates!) for general use in the lounge and need some speakers to go with it. Budget is limited (less than £100) but happy to get secondhand. Have found some Eltax Symphony 6.2 floorstanders available for £50, which although rather old, seems like a possible good start. Other than that I seem to be looking at shelf/stand-mounted options like Cambridge S20's or Q Acoustics 2010's for about £70ish. I've looked up reviews and these both seem ok, but does anyone have any words of wisdom or recommendations? Ta.
  8. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-25590155 Erm, surely as someone who COULDN'T deal with debt, he's the last person who should be writing that booklet?
  9. Still just about enjoy reading this thread, but it still amazes me that people like GM and Guided Missile think that (irrespective of their opinion or sources) they are likely to sway anyone with their constant abuse, name-calling and generally juvenile 'debating' tactics. You'd think people who wanted to be taken seriously might treat the debate and it's participants with a bit more respect. The arrogance is astounding. Anyway, back to you...
  10. You keep telling yourself that.
  11. This is an extremely tenuous argument. I know several teachers and they work exceptionally hard and long hours during term time. Things like marking and lesson planning and all sorts outside of classroom time mean they work far more than 40 or 37.5 hours a week, and so having been someone who used this argument before, I now know better... especially bearing in mind that even in those 13 weeks off, there is usually a fair bit of time that is used to prepare classrooms and lesson plans for the forthcoming term.
  12. For comedy value rather than 'changed our history-ness', Paul Telfer's shot that hit the big screen has to be worth a mention...
  13. lol, not even been on here for a few days, and I appear to have ****ed off Smirking_Saint just by being ahead of him in the poll... Sorry mate!
  14. Good stuff, cheers VFFT. FYI, here's the gradients on the road from Bedoin...
  15. It's also worth remembering that back in the late 90's, early 2000's, our reserve team would regularly be at the top of the reserve league... but only because they virtually had their own squad that stuck together, trained together, played together, but hardly any of whom made the regular step up to the first team... players like Matthew Robinson, Kevin Gibbens, Duncan Spedding, Neil Moss, Ryan Ashford, Paul Tisdale, Phil Warner, even Gary Monk, David Hughes who did break in to the first team but never maintained it. I could go on naming loads who were regulars and who we watched at Staplewood regularly over the years. The key is having the pathway to the first team. The notion of now being 'promoted' from U-18's to Development Squad or First Team, as we have had the past two seasons, with players actively publicised as making the move up. Add in the fact we are clearly working more on technique, and that teams play the same way in the U18's and Development squad, all helps pave the way for players to make the step up. So goals scored in themselves are not what MP is looking at. Undoubtedly, finishing is important for a striker, but if it were the be-all and end-all, then we probably wouldn't have signed Jay Rodriguez. It's how they fit into the system, how they contribute to the team as a whole, their mentality and intelligence on and off the ball, and so much more. I actually think that some players who we released could've actually prospered better in our current set-up. Having ability is all well and good, but to realise it needs a combination of good coaching and training, the right mentoring and emotional development, as well as hard work on your part obviously. We now have a better overall environment to develop these players and so are seeing the rewards IMO, in the form of a greater number of players realising their potential talent, rather than us just having MORE players with talent in the first place. Our academy record is clearly good, but it's just getting better all the time as a result.
  16. Good question, although I suspect it maybe has more to do with our Government simply not wishing to give us more time off... lol.
  17. I am very proud to British *and* English. Is there a way I am 'supposed' to show it? No. I just am. For many, I don't think it is a conscious decision to not show that pride, it's just who we are. Just as we tend to be a nation that does not complain as vociferously as other nations, it's how we do things. Separate to that, there are undoubtedly many conscious decisions by some companies, local authorities etc, to not display overt signs of nationality, especially at times like Xmas, but I certainly think that is entirely wrong. Mutual respect is important, but that starts by being proud of who you are in the first place. Although perhaps that fear of offending others is also just a British trait...?
  18. Is there any case law where the street has pressed charges?
  19. 'Hey, Man City defenders... THIS is how you keep it tight at the back!'
  20. If anyone is interested, bid deadline is 4pm on Tues 10th Dec. http://www.rochdaleafc.co.uk/news/article/brandon-lambert-1217784.aspx
  21. Also - it is an article about how Man Utd can improve, focused solely on Man U, so take it as a compliment and move on...
  22. It does read like some people want to shape history to fit their opinion of Lowe... bottom line is that we wouldn't be where we are now if it hadn't been for ALL that has gone before, and that includes our relegation and administration, as well the work done at the Academy over the years. We have had quite an 'interesting' recent history, lots of people played their part, some good, some bad, most a bit of both. All of which just makes me grateful for where we are now.
  23. This. And that its a good thing that we're a little disappointed with having dropped points in the last three games because it shows how far we've come. We are a work in progress. We learn, we improve and we earn our success in time.
  24. No, I think most would agree with him... where the disagreement comes is when some people cannot see beyond this poor defensive performance and proclaim that that's it, the 'bubble' has burst, and it's down, down, down from here, when it's a lesson to be learnt from. We know we're better than we were today, we have set higher standards for ourselves, and we need to get back to those. There's no reason why we can't. Honesty works both ways. Being honest about where we can improve, but also about how far we have come. And importantly, that we're still heading in the right direction.
  25. Thought he generally played well personally.
