  1. Get a room you two.
  2. Learn when to stop. i.e. now.
  3. With all due respect, most threads involving you and 'the like of Turkish and Thedelldays' are circular virtually before they begin.

    Why so?
  6. The apology is a bit thin... surely, all that was needed was a sensible discussion at the time and some common sense, but no, that didn't happen. Boycott away.
  7. Used to go to Browns when my best mate at the time was at Cov Uni and I visited at least once a month. Was a nice enough place most of the time but could really put their foot in it sometimes. I once got refused entry at 1300 on a weekday, because I didn't have my student ID on me... funnily enough because I wasn't a student. It sounds like they were acting in good faith and abiding by what they *thought* were genuine reasons in this case and hopefully they'll come out and apologise sharpish but if not, they'll get everything they deserve.
  8. Never had you down as a mischievous one hammy. ;-) I don't think of myself as a better person for it. I just try to live according to the beliefs I hold, and have the courage of my convictions.
  9. Which week at the 'Turkish winding up school' are you on? Not his best student are you?
  10. This annoys me any and every organisation out there. If there are conditional requirements for buying/accessing something, make sure everyone is aware of it well in advance so that questions can be answered, and ambiguities can be sorted out well in advance of when it is actually available. The 7 P's spring to mind.
  11. Only the ones with no idea about making sure they get the right nutritional balance in their food... there are some who look like that and I agree, they do put me off my food sometimes! But (generalisation ahoy) I tend to find that more people who are vegetarian/vegan are aware of their nutritional needs, and make sure they get what they need. It is hard at first, because you're so used to the meat being the main part of the meal, but there are plenty of good books out there. My wife reduced the amount of meat she eats long before me and I was pleasantly surprised by the breadth of options out there once you learn about them. I have also found I've tried a lot more foods, things I might never have tried, since reducing the meat, and I appreciate more flavours now.
  12. It's always been Division 2 to me.
  13. At the risk of going off on a tangent then, can I ask if you either a) are Jayex Technologies, or b) what you think of Jayex Technologies if you aren't!? :-)
  14. An interesting POV... I actually agree in some things, but in others I think it is necessary to encourage investment and growth in an emerging industry. Each subsidy needs to be judged independently IMO. It also begs the question why so many fossil fuel industries across the world receive subsidies...

Mainly because people talking about the former, are linking to the latter... just like I did!

Yes indeed, we all are to some extent. Just some more than others.

We don't, but given that he accepted his inheritance and didn't question it or ask for it to go elsewhere on account of moral uncertainty about accepting it, I think it's safe to assume he was happy with it.

I like that Hicks quote. Especially the 'whore at the capitalist gang bang'. Might have to keep that for future reference.
  19. It's a bit of a double-edged sword but I doubt the shareholders would get anything if the company were to be known as one who only cared about their own profits. If they do a good job other people will use their services. By being sympathetic to the cause, they are generating goodwill and enhancing the reputation of the company. If shareholders have got any sense they should know that they will get their returns through the company doing what it does well, not just for the sake of profit at any cost.

Two separate issues here for me: 1 - Is it 'right'? Depends on your morals and your views on tax etc. 2 - Cameron is a hypocrite: http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2012/apr/20/cameron-family-tax-havens?fb=native&CMP=FBCNETTXT9038
  21. Some interesting information here about this: http://www.wunderground.com/climate/volcanoes.asp Specifically: This would be a catastrophic event, no doubt about it. There are obviously different studies into what would happen if Yellowstone went up, and none of them are 'nice'! But with respect to this specific discussion, it seems the consensus is actually that it would not put off the effects of climate change in the longer term. I actually thought the opposite would be true, and agreed with you previously, so this even surprised me. Why do you choose to portray a lower-emission future in such a prehistoric way? Why deliberately try to make out that we need to go backwards in evolutionary terms, when actually there could be a host of solutions that use our technological advances to reduce the problem, whilst maintaining a good quality of life, and actually continue to advance our achievements? We're going back to previous points here. I'll happily discuss the 'doubts being cast' if you have some specific examples which we can discuss. While I am sure you will perceive it to be a website that 'has an agenda' I can thoroughly recommend Skeptical Science (http://www.skepticalscience.com) for good quality of debate (from both 'sides').
  22. I get that you don't accept the word of scientists, even ignoring the ramifications for that statement when applied across all areas of science that we've relied on over the years. If you would kindly show me where I've thrown my toys out, I'll gladly take it back, but actually all I've done is try to put across my view, and also why I disagree with your view. No bullying, no kow-towing... quite how you think I've tried to do that, I've no idea. Perhaps you need to learn to respond to specific points by specific people, rather than trying to lump us all together as 'f**king mental'. Would you take someones arguments seriously if that's all they did to you?
  23. Agreed. I'll not lower myself to his level. It's a shame that such a potentially interesting subject (like many on here) can't be discussed in an mature and respectful way. I think the energy security issue is very interesting and probably worthy of a separate thread though.
  24. Agreed, it has to fit within the pattern of play and would be bloody difficult, if not impossible, IMO.
  25. Offside is arguably a harder one to get right, and so would benefit from technology more, if it can be done right. The assistant referee has to keep up with play, ideally being exactly perpendicular to the second-to-last defending player, at exactly the moment the forward pass is made, and to be able to tell exactly when the pass is made, and where the attacking players are at that moment. I think they do a bloody good job considering, but if there is a way to improve it, personally I'm all for it.
