Mauricio Pochettino's Post-Match Reaction - Aston Villa
Saint-Armstrong posted a topic in The Saints
We made a big error in the first half We made it difficult for ourselves There were other factors in the first halgf I had to make more chances and take a risk When you let in three goals, that does not make a positive result Wanyama and Clyne will be assessed They are injured, but we don't know what's wrong with them right now I am angry, I am actually very angry When you create 21 chances and score two, and they score 3 out of 4, you cannot expect a good result Tonight we were not united defensively That has frustrated me This team is usually united and solid at the back We need to deeply analyse this We made some unacceptable mistakes The opponent also benefitted from some luck We must analyse this, because it wasn't good enough -
Absolute whack tonight. When we took Wanyama off, we realised how much of an edge we lost from the midfield with just SD and JC in there. Alas, with no Morgan in the midfield Cork looked poor. Lost count of how many headers he shirked. Tidy close passes, but anything with some distance behind it was quite sloppy. Cocked up for the goal by dallying with it too. Just thought I'd add some balance considering the kicking Wanyama gets for a poor game. If he had played as Cork had, he'd have been heavily criticised. I appreciate he's lacked game time but that was really poor, same for Maya.

Saints go behind twice and claw it back, but a Delph belter wins it for Villa. Crazy result. Felt Gazzaniga could've done more with the 2nd but other than that, was not helped by Yoshida and Lovren. Jack Cork? Very poor IMO. Same for Maya. If Wanyama had the game Cork just had, there would be an inquisition right now.

Jack Cork going to get slaughtered for that like Wanyama would? Oh, thought not... terrible. He's given it away countless times since coming on.

We went out on the attack first half I thought we did well first half The early goal was advantageous We were carrying the weight of the game well at that point The overall deciding factor was that the decisions were not going our way But, I will say that the person making the decisions was wearing neither red nor blue We corrected many things before conceding the first goal It all went a bit pear-shaped after the first goal We lose Artur and Morgan, and it all went wrong It was out of our control Boruc is having some analysis done Boruc is in a clinic, he has a hand/wrist problem Schneiderlin is being analysed here to see what the issue is Hopefully we can still make this a good month We lost at Arsenal and Chelsea, they were always going to be hard games But overall we competed well, this is the overriding positive I made a technical decision to choose Dani over Rickie It is my decision and I am the manager I am responsible

Saints took the lead after 13 seconds through Rodriguez. Second half goals from Cahill, Terry and Ba win it for Chelsea. Boruc and Schneiderlin off injured. Saints ship three for the first time this season, and fall to 7th place. Aston Villa at home midweek. Thoughts?

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-plot-aaron-hunt-transfer-2870516?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter Can sign a pre-contract now. 27 years old and plays for Werder Bremen and operates anywhere in the three behind the striker. Wants to come to England, is in talks. Obligatory YouTube clip... Thoughts about this? Ramirez out and Hunt in?

Saints spent £2.18m on agents fees during this period. Only Crystal Palace, Hull City and Swansea City spent less.

Russell Brand, in the Guardian, has written this piece about The Sun and Rupert Murdoch: http://www.theguardian.com/media/2013/nov/29/russell-brand-rages-sun-rupert-murdoch?CMP=twt_gu Enjoyed that read, often do enjoy reading his views.

http://www.moneyhouse.ch/en/u/pub/pa/mali_holding_ag_CH-217.0.137.768-0.htm Can't remember if he was just stepping in following Markus' death to help out, but remember his name appearing shortly after Markus passed away. Fact is - none of us really know what has happened here, it's most likely harmless, but it's worth making a note of I guess. Boring thread, I know.

British Match-Fixing - Six Arrests Made

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/10479667/Football-match-fixing-six-arrested-by-police-investigating-betting-syndicate-as-rigging-hits-British-game.html Some interesting undercover reporting. Wonder when it will come to light who the six footballers are, and just how high profile they are?
-
How's that going to happen? Since when have clubs signed a player without involving the chief exec or the DoF?

Came across this whilst we were having a clear-out today, it's now been nicely filed away - but thought I might share it with those of you who love some nostalgia. Enjoy... If you'd like a read of any of the articles, let me know and I'll try and post it up so that it can be read properly. Hope you guys enjoyed seeing this as much as I did. Quite cool, yet bizarre, to read it in the flesh, having not been alive at the time. SA

Doesn't seem to get many threads praising or criticising, but seems to crop up a lot. I'm pretty happy with him this season, although yesterday he was slowing up the quick build-up, and I thought Osvaldo should've replaced him. Anyway... Aside from that, there's been a few demonstrations of things he has done for people. Seems a really down-to-earth guy and a good bloke. Just came across this on Twitter: "Rickie Lambert once again shows he's a stand up guy. Sent my mates mum (a gashead who's v. Ill) a birthday card. Absolute #legend" Just how highly do Saints fans think of Rickie Lambert? Personally, when I think of our rise up the leagues - if you asked me for what I think of, I think of Lambert's arms-wide celebration. Top player who is the hero of the younger generations, I'd imagine.

It's clear that with the recent results, I am angry today with how things happened However, I am happy with the effort and competition against the league leaders We have to keep on working hard and playing the style we want to We offer Artur our complete support We give Artur all our kindness, these things happen, we are all human We are a team, we work as a team, we win and lose as a team I think overall, we competed well - even after conceding I think all the players put in a good effort today During the full ninety minutes, we kept believing we could get something positive It wasn't to be, we need to move on and forget this result Dejan Lovren is at home Last night he spent the entire night vomiting He should be fully fit for Monday We need to analyse Luke Shaw's situation, but we hope he can train on Monday too I think the game was well-balanced I don't think they had that many clear chances When they had the penalty call, it was all over really I thought we could get a draw from it The positive today is that we continued to compete well despite the setback

My MOTM... Victor Wanyama A double from Olivier Giroud, courtesy of a Boruc howler and a penalty kick, which was a soft one. Saints stay third, but Chelsea, City, Spurs and United could all rise above us before the end of the weekend. First time this season that Saints have conceded two goals in the same game. Overall, I thought the display was tidy, but lacked cutting edge. Lambert was poor, the defence was make-shift. Pochettino perhaps got it wrong by not taking Lambert off when he wanted to introduce Osvaldo. Lallana looked like he may create something. Ah well, onto Stamford Bridge! Let the dissection begin...

Who with? Best I can find is 5's. -
The David Norris goal in the last south coast derby (for some time) was a sickener.
-
Roy Hodgson on Adam Lallana: "Yes he has (put himself in contention for the World Cup), there is no doubt about that. I was very happy with his two performances, he has shown he is comfortable on this stage and has a lot of skill. If I am optimistic we do have the quality, it is there, we have players to come back too but tonight we were just lacking the quality in those key areas."

He doesn't help himself does he... always was a billy big timer.

A year ago today, Saints ran out 3-1 winners at Loftus Road in 'El Sackico'...
