When you compare Pearce's decision to exclude Beckham from the Olympic squad, seems to me that "coward" is the perfect word to use. Rooney shouldnt have even been in the squad for Euro 2012, to be fair, but Hodgson bottled that too. We could have had a much more effective striker on from the get-go in the first game, sharpening up for that Italy game. The only mittigating circumstance I will concede in Rooney's defence is that Hodgson's tactics and formation against Italy hardly offered Rooney much opportunity to do anything, but then he didnt look fanastically enthusiastic and energetic anyway.

We picked up the momentum that carried us through to Xmas 2011 and probably ensured our promotion this season too. And we had a decent home kit. Championship to PL was a stagger over the line, and we all know it.
