Global warming really is happening... (well, duh!)
alpine_saint replied to 1976_Child's topic in The Lounge
If we are only faced with a choice of politicans and scientists to lead us, humanity is f**ked anyway As for your point about oil companies accepting the theroy of global warming, yes I can well believe that is what their Media Relations departments are saying in the name of PR. -
In which case, hand-on-heart and no excuse-making, you'd have to say we dont deserve auto promotion anyway.

If it all goes pooey what about the playoffs?

Look, forget who posted it and the bandwagon of animosity, FFS. WTF is wrong with what I wrote ? In addition our players attitudes are going to range from heartbroken to sulky, FFS. -

At the moment the other play off teams seem to be Blackpool, Birmingham, Cardiff. To be promoted we'd have to get past 2 of them We dropped 5 points against Blackpool We dropped 5 points against Cardiff We beat Birmingham at home comprehensively, but that was during our early-season purple patch. Away was a tough battle for a draw. Conclusion: if we dont get auto we arent going up at all. -
This. I will be amazed if this troublemaker is in the England squad. Dealing with Rooney is hard enough.

I am not particularly inclined to go through, point-for-point on your post, but I will respond. I do not completely exclude the possibility of some man-made influence on climate, but I believe it is minor when compared to "forces of nature" such as solar activity, volcanoes, and other long-term less tangible influences such as, from my perspective, an incomplete understanding of climate science. Simply put, the science of climate change is not incontrovertiably proven, and, despite your efforts to given the impression of a consensus, there are scientist out there that dont agree with current thinking. In the meantime, our lives are being dictated, bullied and taxed to the eyeballs by people with ulterior motives. And coming from a scientific/engineering background, the last people in the world I trust on this are scientists themselves, since they have grants and funding to protect. The IPCC at Uni of East Anglia have done MASSIVE damage to the publics confidence in the reliability of climate change theory AND to scientists in general. -
Personally I think you and Kraken believing that you have the right to tell me what I am thinking, is the height of arrogance.

Deary me. How you have the balls to lecture others about hysteria I'll never know....
-
Thats my opinion, take it or leave it. Couldnt give a sh*t either way, tbh.

1. Because I dont gamble 2. Because whatever the potential profit, I could never bet against Saints 3. I am not deep down that pessimistic about Saturday, I think, but I am too scared to dwell on it. You know Saints... The current obsession with betting on here gets on my tits.

Utter cr*p, if you are referring to me. I just want to see the damage done by Rupert Lowe repaired. We were stable PL without any serious possibility of CL before he turned up, so thats enough to satisfy me. Which is why a few weeks ago I started a thread called "Closure" to ask when people felt the damage he did was healed, to which my opinion was once we have demonstrated the ability to stay up once we got back to the PL, as before relegation (hopefully summer 2013).

What, you compare a shouty match on here to committing criminal offences ? Mental How bizarre that a call to give some lattitude to my fellow posters has turned into yet another "abuse alpine" thread...

He's the sort of player I can see giving us a vital shove over the finish line, just like he did last year.

Nope, and neither do the doomsayers, and one particularly loud-mouthed doomsayer is now observed to be backtracking.... Indeed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowball_Earth -
Not while he is in a Saints shirt.

I was thinking, there has been some criticism of him that he only really shines when we are well up in games. But hes an intelligent player who makes good runs and worries defences; would he have stabilised us a few times, once having done the work to get the lead, such as Boro and Pompey, and kept the opposition on the back foot ?

Very good question.

Contradiction Alert !!!!! Sorry, your second statement is the correct one, therefore I marvel at the willingness of the individual to be taken in hook, line and sinker by Global Warming Hysteria. I understand govenrmental willingness to accept it of course, it provides taxation opportunities. One volcanic eruption (which have happened regularly throughout Earths history) is capable of chucking more sh*t into the atmosphere than years of man-made pollution, yet you lot persist in lapping up the guilt-trip cr*p. Mother Nature will regulate any gross abuses of the planet; if it gets warmer, the Arctic ice will melt, killing the Gulf Stream and actually throw the warming process into reverse. Dramatically. According to reports, this May will be coldest in 100 years. Last summer was sh*t. We have NEW snow on the mountains here with no sign of it melting. why dont you all give it a rest ? Seems like Lovelock is willing to chill out a bit. How's Mr Celebrate-The-Death-Of-Sceptics Hockey Stick at East Anglia Uni doing ???? -

That the Godfather of Global Warming hysteria now admits he's wrong. -
There are far too many. How about Scotlands equalliser or Maynards winner ?

How does this game rate in the last 50 years?
alpine_saint replied to stev2001's topic in The Saints
Been playing with this for a while; some of it works better than others. Its my idea of what NA should say to the team. I left the most serious bit from the original out completely because I didnt want to trivillaise killing : We go to SMS to liberate from the lower divisions not to choke. We will fly our flags in our stadium. We are entering SMS to free a people from crap football and the only flag which will be flown in that hallowed stadium is our own. Show respect for the fans. There are some who play NPC football at this moment who will not be playing it shortly. Those who do not wish to go on that journey, we will not send. Others may not be playing football anymore soon. Those we will have a good laugh at. As for those that challenge our journey in the other direction I expect you to rock their world. Wipe them out if that is what they choose. But if you are ferocious in battle remember to be magnanimous in victory. Southampton is steeped in history. It is the site of the Mayflower departure, of the Spitfire development and the birthplace of Alpine_Saint. Tread lightly there. You will see things that no man could pay to see and you will have to go a long way to find a more decent, generous and upright people than Sotonians and SFC fans. You will be embarrassed by their chicken balti pies. Don't treat them as nutjobs for they are in their own city and stadium. Their children may be Manyoo fans, in years to come they will know that the light of liberation in their lives was brought by you. If there are casualties of play then remember that when they woke up and got dressed in the morning they did not plan to get injured this day. Allow them dignity in substitution. Give them a high five and applaud their departure. It is my foremost intention to bring every single one of you into the Premier League but there may be people among us who will not see the start of that campaign. We will send them on their way and wish them well. There will be no time for sorrow. Coventry City and West Ham United should be in no doubt that we are their nemesis and that we are bringing about their rightful destruction. There are many knobhead fans amongst them who would applaud our demise. Their forces will be destroyed by this team for standing in our way. As their teams are relegated or enter the playoffs they will know their teams deeds have brought them to this place. Show them no pity. As for ourselves, let's bring everyone up to the Premier League and leave the NPC a better place for us having been there. Our business now is upwards. -
A repeat would be damned peachy.

Pompey maths. He's missed at least one "0"...

alpine_saint replied to stev2001's topic in The Saints
This is a good question. Winning the JPT and the FAC are great memories, but there is no lasting effect from them. Until this weekends game, the biggest game of my living memory (less than 50 years) was the Manyoo game in 2005. At the moment the impact of that single game is still being felt 7 years later, and if we dont go up it will be at least 8 years later. Since there is so much more money in the game now, I cannot believe our other promotion & relegation battles of the last 50 yrs had so much riding on them. So, I would argue the Cov game is on a par with the 2005 Manyoo game. If we go up by beating Cov, we will not know until 7 years later if the legacy of that game is greater than the Manyoo game. -
Yep. So what ? Cause-and-effect old boy. You chose to support a coward and a bully, making you an accomplice in my eyes.
