Really not much to judge on so far IMO. MP said already in Austria in preseason that Gaston (and Maya) would need a month extra before they would be back in normal contention for the team. But this year I have higher demands (or what you wanna call it) on Gaston. I wrote about every player before the season in a document, but missed to put it on the forum in a thread, what my expextations were from every single player. On Gaston I wrote that I want him more involved and find a higher sustainable level but that his type of player will always have his ups and downs from one game to another. I also thought he should be close to collecting 15 "points" (goals + assists combined). But so far nothing to judge so I will wait until at least christmas to do that probably. Why I like some players and have extra patience with them is all about their shown potential and IMO noone in our team is close to his highest potential. He still has things to learn to fulfill that for sure but so far I have no reason to lose patience about him.... But as always, that´s an opinion....

You mean compared to Liverpool? Or judge Gaston right now?

In a better teams with better players coming in when the team is on the up rather than coming into a struggling newcomer...

So basically Jessie J was right.....it´s all about the price tag.... Who would´ve known... And just for fun, I dont know the figures at all on this question but maybe someone does? When we paid £1m for Rickie in 2009, how large chunk was that of our turnover that year compared how large chunk £12m for Gaston was of our turnover last year?? (Maybe those aren´t revealed yet though....) I think people need to get this perspective on things cause I heard a few weeks ago that Shearer in that regard was more expensive when he signed for Newcastle from Blackburn than Bale was for Real Madrid if you look at the fee divided with the club s turnover... (oh my english stinks, sorry guys and gals)

Agree with that. I´ll answer here instead of to the long post.... No I didn´t watch the game, and my reaction isn´t about a single game or even a big amount of games. It´s more about the type of comments that are made about Gaston but almost never about any other player in the same regards. Like the ones that he loses all of his 50/50 tackles, he gives away the ball to easy etc etc. I´m not saying those things dont happen, though I dont see him losing ALL 50/50 and when players (not just regarding Gaston) seems to "give away" the balls it´s just as often lack of options from his teammates as it´s the players own fault IMO. And as you say, we had probably one of the biggest and laziest "flair player" of all times, and because of that I would have thought that people understood the concept, but still all these comments are out on the forum after practically every game. What I am talking about is that with a flair player you are looking for that one or two magic moments that results in goals. Pretty much like a striker that goes missing for 89 minutes and then scores a winner and everybody is happy with his contribution. But I also understand that people look and compare him to, let´s say, Steven Davis that plays in a similar position and is very good at retaining and keeping the ball but imo they are completely different type of players even if they play in the same position. Davis isn´t as much of a creative threat for the opponents imo but is extremely useful in retaining the ball, passing it around etc while Gaston is the opposite and always look for that magic pass. Rightly he needs to learn to know when it´s there or when the easy option should be used but I will always give a player the benefit of a doubt when I see that the player is looking and wanting to create things. Imo we can afford a flair player behind the striker and to break the bus parking teams I think we need just that and I personally prefer a AM/ST combination rather than playing two strikers, at the moment. Was my comment a cheap put down....I can understand that view now even if it wasn´t intential at all. My apologies if someone was offended...

The more I read in all Gaston threads the more certain I get that many fans on here dont understand the concept of a flair player. After all years with the Pruttons, Telfers and Delaps their eyes and brain are used to a certain brand of football....

So now we are counting goals in the national team as "ours" in which one of those were a friendly.....(Osvaldo scored a few, I think 4-5, in friendlies for Roma.... should we count those??)

So Moyes loaned Lingard out, Januzaj or Zaha isn´t even in the 18 squad.... Fun to be young in the big clubs....(Zaha is probably not good enough imo though but Lingard looked promising in preseason and Januzaj too last game)

I also hate to say it......I agree.

Davis is the perfect player in AM position if we´re leading due to his skill to keep and passing the ball but if we are behind he´s not creative enough for that position imo.
