Just to take one of his points; that NATO/EU should not have considered Ukraine as a member, as this would inevitably provoke Russia into action - rather that Ukraine, nominally independent, would exist as a 'buffer zone' neither in NATO/EU or under the direct influence of Russia. Of course this might, perhaps, be argued to be in the interests of both the West and Russia, but surely Ukraine has the right to self-determination ? He adds into this argument that Belarus is actually acting as such a buffer zone - no it isn't, it is a Russian puppet.

Strangely, Sweden have ditched their neutrality, Switzerland are reviewing theirs, and Japan have made changes to their Constitution to remove it's passive neutrality status. Do you honestly think the Germans would want, let alone anybody else permit them to hold, nuclear weapons ? Britain has them because we were desperate to maintain the illusion of being a Global Power post WW2, as do the French.

You do understand why Germany has had it's particular position on how to maintain it's military capabilities for the last 75 years ?

They are ethically wrong, cost money that would be better spent elsewhere, and independent of the US our arsenal is too insignificant to actually deter anybody mad enough to make a first strike against the UK.

There is a line of argument for getting rid of the UK nuclear arsenal, but it depends in part on trusting the US to be willing to commit theirs to a European conflict. It would be nice if there were no such weapons anywhere in the World, but that particular genie cannot be put back in it's bottle.

More importantly, that some of them are weapons directly under European control.
