  1. How many saves did their 'keeper make ?
  2. I remember when, as a lad, buses were run by the Council, you could watch the Great Liners dock, and Southampton won a football match after conceding the first goal.
  3. BSc in Microbiology, career in chasing computer viruses.
  4. When I was made redundant after 33 years in IT, the last 10 in cyber security, I was deemed too old, ( 55 ), for almost every related vacancy going.
  5. The vote in a General Election is supposedly based on the manifestos. The majority of policies and decisions made by Governments were never in a manifesto pledge, ( and many such pledges are ignored or forgotten ). We never learn.
  6. At least the referendum was decided by a majority of the votes cast- the Westminster Government is never elected by such a majority.
  7. If you ask the British public their collective choice on an issue you end up with "Boaty McBoatface".
  8. Sides went into the 3 'divisions' with half the points gained from their group games against the other side from their group, so Hants carried over half the points from their matches with Somerset, a drawe and a loss, who we then didn't play in the divisional matches. It was only half because we only went on to play the other division 1 teams once each, whereas we had played Somerset twice.
  9. Not entirely; we are apparently 100k drivers short, having lost about 20k due to Brexit, so 80k are down to our own policy failings.
  10. After Ole had complained that they didn't get awarded enough. Karma.
  11. Government spokesman :- "We are moving to a high wage, high skills economy, so companies will have to adapt". That's all well and good, but if nobody wants to drive HGVs then nothing will be getting shipped about. I wonder if we will see a big push for driver-less technology in trucks.
  12. Presenters on the radio saying "Everybody is talking about....." or "Everybody has been waiting for..... ". Generally this is concerning shows I have not been anticipating and have no interest in watching; "Strictly Come Watch 'B' List Celebrities Trip Over Their Feet", "I Used To Be Famous For 10 Minutes And Now I Am Eating Locusts On TV In A Fake Jungle Location", etc.
  13. There was a chap on the radio yesterday who drives fuel tankers for a large fuel company. He said he was the youngest driver at his depot. He is 50. This has been a long time coming; Brexit has made it worse, but many years of ignoring the issue are now coming to a head.
  14. She was getting paid for it 😉
  15. There seem to be plenty of vacancies that UK residents don't appear to want to take up.
  16. My S-i-L is a vet's assistant in NZ and has been known to 'milk' male pigs.
  17. One ball away from being champions - end up 4th.
  18. "London continues to lead in the region, dropping only three points in the ratings. This reflects confidence in the longer-term prospects for the centre. • Other leading Western European centres had mixed results, with Paris, Amsterdam, Madrid, Stockholm, Hamburg, and Munich moving up the rankings while Frankfurt, Zurich, Edinburgh, Luxembourg, Stuttgart, and Brussels fell back, as centres compete following Brexit." So, 9 months in London has slipped slightly. It was never going to be a sudden cliff-edge drop and Covid has no doubt had an impact Let's wait for a couple of years and see how things develop.
  19. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Fear It seems that Boris started it.
  20. In a political campaign it is easier and more effective to use slogans rather than presenting facts, which is why Trump got so much traction out of "MAGA". In 'debating' the issues during the referendum VL simply deployed the "Project Fear" meme to counter Remain 'facts'.
  21. Yoiu can fuck right off.
  22. Many estimates put the shortage of HGV drivers in the UK at around 90k, with about 20k EU drivers no longer working in the UK. It seems to depend on which side of the referendum you agreed with: Leavers may well point to a 'global' shortage, as per the Daily Express, (https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/1485488/brexit-news-hgv-driver-shortage-covid-uk-eu-latest-facts4eu-report); Remainers will point to stories such as this - https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/politics/brexit-to-blame-as-lorry-driver-shortages-hit-100000-says-yorkshire-logistics-boss-3359867.
  23. https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/germany-braces-energy-supplier-casualties-2021-09-21/ "FRANKFURT, Sept 21 (Reuters) - Some German power suppliers could go insolvent due to soaring wholesale prices that are hitting consumers worldwide and have squeezed out companies in Britain, energy experts said on Tuesday."
  24. Do the Russians pipe gas to the US ?
  25. The vast majority of Brexiteers had 1 primary reason for voting that way - to leave the EU. The peripheral details were secondary to that, so they view the outcome as having delivered what they voted for. There may well be some who subsequently have come to regret their vote, but reversing the referendum is not an option, so we all have to suck it up and get on with what we are presented with. There may well be some personal satisfaction at pointing out the negative outcomes, but schadenfreude pales when you are one of those affected by it.
