Particularly as Jeremy Hunt, ( no spoonerisms here ), is on record as saying he can see no problems with the idea of Murdoch regaining control of BSkyB.

Agree - it's a contrived mechanism for 3 middle-aged men to show how puerile they can be.

If the rumours about the right wing of the Tories being annoyed that they aren't getting enough attention are true, then the BrokeBack Coalition may well split under pressure from both ends of it's particular political spectrum. Coalition government is all about compromise, and no backbench politician is happy doing that.

Most wars in the last 1000 years have been fought on religious grounds.

Linked from the WIKI article DP quoted in post #263 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_warming#Solar_variation ) "Variations in solar output have been the cause of past climate changes. The effect of changes in solar forcing in recent decades is uncertain, but small, with some studies showing a slight cooling effect,[/url] while others studies suggest a slight warming effect." So quoting solar influence, particularly from WIKI articles, is not really reliable evidence either way.

Good morning dunCe, how are you this morning ?

It was nowt to write home about.

If you can bear to have your posting countered without blowing your top : "In 2008 Corbyn went even further than being skeptical, and took an absolutist, certain position by stating, ... "CO2 has never driven, does not drive and never will drive weather or climate. Global warming is over and it never was anything to do with CO2. CO2 is still rising but the world is now cooling and will continue to do so." ... a level of certainty that many in the scientific community find logically unsupportable"

Calm down, it's only an Internet forum. Jeez !

But that isn't what it says, is it ! It says "A "blocking" high pressure over the North Atlantic has been a recurring feature of the current cold spell, which has split the path of the high-altitude jetstream, sending warmer weather to Greenland and allowing bitterly cold winds from the Arctic to spread across Britain and Europe." Do try harder.

ConDem's plan to block all Internet pornography
badgerx16 replied to badgerx16's topic in The Lounge
There is a difference between a commercial business blocking access to 'non work related' materials, and to censorship of every Internet session in the country. In IBM's case they can use something like a skin tone detection system, and set it on low tolerance just to be on the safe side. However, if you try this with 'joe public' how do you set the parameters ? Too lax, and too many unsavoury images will slip through, too high and perfectly legitimate holiday snaps trigger false positives. If you work on IPs or domain names, it takes about 10 minutes to create a new website,- the filtering services are always playing catchup as blocked sites move hosting services. I am responsible for 3 such systems, each set to a different level of enforcement, depending on the users. The one we use for schools is set on 'strict', but even then we always inform schools that there is a caveat that we cannot guarantee 100% success, and children must always be supervised. -
Weather is local, climate is global. Whilst we may be experiencing record low temperatures, much of the northern hemisphere has unseasonal warmth. Net, the world is warmer than is might have been historically at this time of year.

ConDem's plan to block all Internet pornography

But that's nothing to do with the Internet, per se, it's the dodgy importers and black marketeers you want closing down. That means physical interventions by HMRC and Trading Standards - oh wait, public sector spending cuts. Damn ! -
I could quote you, ( again ! ), chapter and verse, but you would simply dismiss it, as you have always done.

ConDem's plan to block all Internet pornography
badgerx16 replied to badgerx16's topic in The Lounge
There is a difference between consumer protection and Big Brother thought control. What you want is the former, what this proposal suggests is the latter. The problem with trying to legislate against or take control of the Internet is that it is an amorphous agglomeration of computer systems; if you purchase something from a website without exercising due care you will have no guarantee of where the site is hosted, no guarantee as to where the goods are produced or shipped from, and no guarantee as to where the payment is processed. That is unless you want complete control of all traffic via some agency at Westminster. -
"The British government plans to meet with Internet service providers in the country next month to discuss the idea of censoring all Internet connections and requiring users to specifically request access to pornographic materials from their ISPs". Is this a good idea or too much 'nanny state' mind control ? Is it the responsibility of parents to put the controls in place on their PCs, or does the state have to intervene ? Is it possible for any state to control the Internet in this way, without being seen as authoritarian ? Is this an attack on free speech and freedom of expression ? Discuss !!! http://news.yahoo.com/s/mashable/20101219/tc_mashable/uk_conservatives_want_to_block_all_internet_porn And one for Dune http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1339926/Internet-pornography-Parents-allowed-block-sexual-imagery.html

But it cannot read the security code printed on the back, nor can it read your mind to get the PIN number, which should still be required for PayPass payments of over £10, or the 3D security code that MasterCard have introduced for online payments..

This has been bothering me, mainly because it's about 30 years since I did degree level organic chemistry, and it didn't seem to make sense, ( the bits on this thread, not the degree modules ). However, with a bit of digging, I think what will happen to the 1 in a trillion radioactive methane molecules, CH4, is that the C14 nucleus will decay, ( a neutron emits an electron (a beta particle)) and the carbon turns into a nitrogen atom. A consequence is that the newly formed nitrogen atom can not make any of the chemical bonds that carbon does, so the hydrogen atoms are released. Second, when the C14 decays, the beta particle is emitted with an energy of up to 154,000 electron volts (154KeV). That literally blows the nitrogen right out of the molecule; chemical bonds have an energy of about 30 to 40 electron volts and it takes only about 10 to 20 eV to strip an electron off of an atom. This ejection of the newly formed atom is termed the "Szilard-Chalmers Effect". I think that as a consequence, the four 'orphaned' hydrogen atoms will reform as two H2 molecules. ( And on that note, it's time for bed ).

That's all well and good, but any kiwi or ocker members will find out there's an ice age on the way.
-
Where's the evidence for your claim about ALL carbon in the trapped methane being C14 & therefore now, according to your statement, all the atoms being Nitrogen ?

That's up to the mods.........
