Swindon V Saints, first half & half time chat..
badgerx16 replied to saint lard's topic in The Saints
Well, we seem to be continuing on from Saturday, so why not. -
I paid with a £20 at the hot dog stall, no problem, but then again I was with a group in the family stand; maybe it was just the away end ? ( They are all a bit Royston Vasey round there;); they claim to be "THE Yorkshire club", totally discounting Leeds, Barnsley, and the 2 Sheffield sides ).

I'd take George Gillett if he was replacing Wotton !

The defence were exposed because the midfield could neither keep possession nor string one pass together; 4 vs 7 is always going to end in tears - the midfield had the impact of a marshmallow and the bite of a toothless slug They created the square root of f u c k all. However, I am not trying to claim the defence are blameless. Perry is probably now too slow, ( to go with his being too short ). Thomas had his good, and bad, moments, but I felt was probably mostly just lacking matches. Murty looks the part, but is probably also a couple of matches short of a decent level of fitness, and Harding is at least an improvement on the last few left backs we've had. Given the extremely uncertain close-season, & the late start to pre-season, all coming on the back of last season's trail of disaster, is it any surprise that the co-ordination and understanding that an efficient team needs are not yet there. Combine this with an away fixture against a well prepared and motivated opposition, likely to prove one of the better sides in this division, and I won't be losing sleep over the team just yet.

Due to the group I went with, was at the opposite end from the away fans, and directly behind the goal, which means I saw all three of their goals at close quarters. The penalty was soft ( at best ), and KD was unlucky - but everybody in that stand knew it was going to his left. The second was because Murty had run out from the near post to harry their player on the byline, and nobody could be @rsed to cover for him, leaving a huge hole for their player to run into unimpeded. The third was the sort of scrappy close in scramble we all know Saints will always fail to clear. Without KD it could easily have been 3-0 at half time, and throughout, the impression I got, was that the midfield were as effective as the proverbial chocolate fireguard. Harding at least has pace, and Murty has commitment, but wish both could have some presence and think a bit more about distribution of the ball. Tank, to me, looked a bit short of match practice but at least he tried - I think Wotton's sole contribution for the entire match was to get booked. And my heart dropped when Ollie came on, I have no confidence in him at all, though to be fair he did make two well judged tackle backs late on. Was a bit surprised that Greg played, and probably by his standards he was putting himself about, but he was far too easily contained, and the only real spark came from Lambert. Highlight of the game ? The announcement on 45 minutes that "The 4th official says there will be SOME time added", when his board broke. The positive slant has to be that Huddersfield are likely to be one of the play-off chasers, and so some hopefully easier opposition lie ahead.

Just about to set off, it's pee'ing it down and blustery here, so assuming it's the same on the 'dark side'. Hoping for a good game, nontheless. COYR !!!!!

I found the comment string below the article most entertaining, especially the posts from the Judeo-Bolshevik conspiracy theorists. Have to admit though, something very strange seems to have happened on the Met Office FTP server.

Further to your slightly snide 'in badgerx16's world' comments; in 'my world', comments like Minty's above represent my view. Nobody is 'fooling' me - I am an educated, intelligent, independently thinking individual, who can review the situation and come to a conclusion and point of view that I am satisfied with. The fact that you may take a differing view does not cause me any loss of sleep However it does seem to me that YOUR view is summarised by the following : I'm all right jack. It won't affect me in my lifetime, so why should I bother ? If the Government say it, it MUST be wrong. Damn' tree-hugging lefties getting all concerned above the poor defenceless critters. .................... As with any debate, there are 2 main perspectives, and the reality is in all certainty somewhere in between. You seem to take the position that you are on a personal crusade to ridicule anybody who does not follow your lead, or attempts to present evidence that is equally as plausible as that you are promoting with such zeal. And as for mankind's ability to screw up the world, I suspect that you are probably, as I am, in the age-group which grew up under the shadow of Mutually Assured Destruction and the 4-minute warning, so yes, we do have the power to leave the world suitable only for spiders and the like. Well that paper certainly seems to support the 'alphabet' theory... Anything But Carbon Dioxide Also, the counter to it's conclusions...http://greenfyre.wordpress.com/2009/07/24/is-our-whole-dissembly-appeared/ Mark Morano, who edits the Climate Depot site is a well known man made climate change sceptic, who has a personal 'issue' with Al Gore; and there is nothing in the theory of MMCC that says you cannot have these unusual cold snaps, in fact they have been predicted in some models. I would also recommend, for those who have the time, this site : http://scienceblogs.com/illconsidered/2008/07/how_to_talk_to_a_sceptic.php Just remember folks; If, just if, the theories are correct, New Orleans' population will be swimming to work, ( St G take note ;-):-) )

Is it Friday ? When is the press conference ? Where is MB's latest leak from the Echo ? What else is the F5 key for fs not updating the longest unfounded threads ever on any web forum ?

His hands were tied as to how he could use them at WHU, it was a ploy by their management companies to get them into a UEFA league prior to moving on to a big-name club, which could be seen by all the wrangles over their contracts and registrations when they did move on at the end of that season.

An unexpected appointment, but one that sets our sights onwards & upwards, with good experience of this league and the one above, and most importantly, how to get out of them. Given that our recent history includes the appointments ( in the Prem ) of Stuart Gray, Steve Wigley, Sturrock, and Bagpuss, and in the CCC of the dimwitted dutch duo, how can this be seen as a poor appointment ? His track record, at a higher level than we currently find ourselves, is superior to all of these. He's not even been in post for 12 hours and already there are some giving him a slating, give him a chance. Let's be honest, WGS would have been good, but was really only a daydream.
