it pretty much means running along with. So WC is saying other teams that are running along with them. IE in the same league. It really does annoy me. All it is, is big clubs(rich) buy all the talent to spite the other clubs.

You can't really be critical of people just wanting the best of both worlds, why is is amusing? why are you on a high horse pointing out how pretty much most of society think. People know the club is generally now 'ruthless' and as supporters we get the benefits of this, but then fans are of course emotionally attached to things such as selling an iconic player and naturally some will not like the idea of it.
