  1. In Scotland the lowering of the limit was shown to have had no effect on road deaths but our government chooses to press on anyway and clobber the pubs. It is a basic human right to take drink with your community. It probably helps to keep thousand of people's mental health in balance doing so. Words fail me why they would not want to follow the path of common sense! As an aside my local's business rates have gone up from £21K to £55K. Add onto this the rise in minimum wage (tips don't count) and you can see why pubs are failing.
  2. It will just put more pubs out of business. In Scotland it hit golf courses hardest.
  3. I hope you are OK Old Nick and make a full recovery. Your eloquent post suggests that you are most of the way there.
  4. I don't blame Sport Republic, they have spent the money. Who the hell is advising them?
  5. With the creativity in the team now his pace should mean he is a twenty goal a season striker in the championship. I had not appreciated this. I hope Tonda noticed.
  6. The thing with the conveyer belt of football management is that somebody will unwittingly become available soon. Wait I say and that also gives Tonda more time to justify his candidacy.
  7. Michael Atherton wrote a very nice piece in the Times yesterday. He was a Hampshire icon and I did get to meet him once in the Taj Hotel bar in Columba Sri Lanka back in 1993. It seems amazing that International sportsman in those days could be found in the hotel bar in the middle of a test match. Anyway it was a brief encounter as he borrowed my matches to light his cigar and conversation was limited. He was very pleasant though and he went onto score a century in that test.
  8. Well they were good enough for Barcelona
  9. I love that. I just hope that he is not to matey with the players because that never works out well.
  10. Scary stuff. The right to be tried by a jury a key plank in a free society.
  11. I used to sit next to an old boy at the Dell who went to his first game in 1921 and I asked him who was the best player he had ever seen. Without hesitation he said Le Tissier.
  12. For gods sake don't appoint him before the Leicester game! We will definitely lose it if they do!
  13. The worry for the BBC is if this is common practice. Someplace, somewhere somebody is meticulously checking through the speeches of all high profile politicians and how they were portrayed on Newsnight or Panorama....
  14. I heard the rumours but wages must be a stumbling block. I would bite your hand off for him.
  15. If we are struggling to attract a manager in a more conventional way I would propose putting a structure together with Romeu, Ward Prowse and Lallana. They all love our club, have enough status to generate respect within the dressing room and are intelligent. Romeu and Lallana have played under some very high brow coaching set ups.
  16. Or the memorable Saints line up of Best, Pele and Jesus
  17. Do you really think that doctoring speeches of presidential candidates shortly before an election is a good look?
  18. You could argue that they did not need to doctor his speech to demonstrate that but they did and the integrity of the BBC's impartiality has been massively compromised.
  19. I am not sure you appreciate the magnitude of what Panorama did! They doctored a speech to portray negatively a presidential candidate of the world's most powerful democracy shortly before an election.
  20. Alan McLoughlin was rather unfortunate because if he played a certain amount of games we had to pay a chunk more money so the number of games he played was limited and he could not prove himself. He then went onto our neighbours and flourished.
  21. I think we can probably put out two teams!
  22. The creators would be locked up nowadays.....
  23. Can they please appoint a manager who; 1 Has a stature that will give the supporters a feel good factor. This has not happened since I initially thought we had appointed the Pellegrino that was at Man City and not the one we ended up with. 2 Has an understanding of the Championship 3 Somebody who the players look up to, respect and fear. Should not be allowed near cups of tea at half time. 4 Will not do well and then just leave at the first decent offer - this might mean they have failed somewhere putting off the big clubs. Failure quite often gives them a point to prove something that can be harnessed. 5 A manager who attracts players. In the same way that Koeman brought, Tadic, Pelle and Mane when he arrived As supporters we need to recognise that in terms of attractiveness to candidates, we are looking a little dishevelled and have put on two stone.
  24. The sheer stupidity of appointing a 32 year old when all your players need is some wily old veteran to build them up again.
