Like the excuses the club have been reeling out for selling players when they said they didn't need to and would let the new manager decide? I'm prone to believe the players who've delivered for the club rather then a new board who are having a shocker and a track record of lying.

Yes, it's still a move to the Prem. You're vastly overrating his reputation as a manager, whilst he's a reasonable appointment next to no one in England will have a clue who he even is without Wiki'ing him.

Imo the new board told the players/manager one of two of them would be sold to fund new signings.

Hey bro, not to keep hijacking the thread as you were asking someone else....but if it was as people are implying and players simply wanting moves to bigger clubs I would have sold two who deserved it the most for their services to the club and told the others that they will be sold in the upcoming windows if they continue performing well but ask for their courtesy and patience in the meanwhile as they would appreciate that you can't replace an entire first 11 in one window and it's unreasonable for them to expect that

Those players are leaving because of the change of direction that the club is taking. Whilst the players are acting irresponsibly, it's because they're consciously going out of their way to spite the club because they're ****ed of with the change of plans imo. I think we'd have had maybe one or two max leaving if Cortese was still here but certainly not the borderline mutiny that the club seems to have on its hands. It's not just that players are interested in leaving, they appear to have a genuine ill will towards the people running the club now.

I didn't say it's a poor appointment, I'm ok with him being in charge but as with most people I'd rather have kept Pochettino which would suggest Koeman's a downgrade.

Yes, because we really were that close to being a very good top half team and chasing down the likes of Everton and Spurs. To allow the team to be absolutely torn apart in the way that is has is spectacularly bad management. My personal hope with Saints was that we could get to the same level as Spurs and Everton to allow us to keep at least the vast majority of our academy players. I'd be happy with being a bottom team if we could keep players who have came through the academy but we can't.

And would Spurs have appointed him a year ago? He's now proven in the Prem so has been snapped up by a bigger club, that doesn't mean automatically every unproven manager there after will do well. Van Gaals one of the most highly rated managers in the world but similarly he's no sure thing for United.

Then throw ridiculous money at Lukaku, we've already slashed our wage bill and will be saving loads more with Osvaldo seemingly leaving. The club needs a couple of marquee signings not mediocre players from abroad that we can pretend to get excited about because its all we have to cling on to atm.

I'd say going from a proven Premiership manager to an unproven one is arguably a downgrade. With the money we have available we should be sniffing around the likes of Lukaku, Feillani, Chamberlain and keeping an eye on the Courtois situation, then bringing in 3/4mill youngsters to pad out the squad.

We're supposed to be improving on last season though not our first one back in the Prem. It's just worrying the standard of players we're looking at, they're all downgrades on what's been sold. It'd be easy to assume that our ambition really has disappeared.
