Cortese bought him in. Think we owe so much to Sir Les Reed and were we are now. Although he is not local, bought up with Charlton and managed them. Great spokesman for Southampton Football club. Arise Sir Les!

David Bull's interview with Rickie Lambert and others
9-3 replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
Brilliant. Its down to you Duncan, David and Gary to keep the history of Southampton Football Club alive. I know how much time and effort you put in for the research you do after working with you with the 'Suited and Booted' publication. With all your vast amounts of knowledge and history you a a credit to Southampton Football Club. -
Premiership stadiums getting bigger, hope we don't get left behind

My vision. Get rid of the industry from Itchen Bridge tot Bitterne and block of flats in front of ground and turn it to restaurants, bars, hotels. Outside the ground is a massive eyrsore. -

My plan! Buy off all the land from Woolston Bridge along past the concrete works in front of St Mary's along with that block of flats opposite to the ground and turn it into green area, restaraunts, marina, riverfront. Make the ground capacity 40000. -

Could we fill 40000? -
Along with Man Unt, Man City, Arsenal and I know Newcastle and Villa are down. West Ham new ground 50000 plus, Chelsea new ground 60000+, Spurs new ground 60000+, Liverpool increased capacity 50000+, Sunderland 40000+ Where does that leave us? Massive revenue.

He was bought as a replacement for SRL who was going to go to West Ham. He was probably on £40000/£50000 a week where as SRL would have been half that that. Think it was down to Cortesse. Football could do well without the likes of Osvaldo, another shark.

Virgil van Dijk signs new six-year deal with Saints
9-3 replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Has Van the man been influenced by Ronald Koeman about to sign a new contract? I hope so!!! -
Sad news. Know what it's like as my Mother had the illness for years. I think Liverpool actually or almost signed him but called it off because his blood pressure was so high. There's a funny story about him in Lawries book. Good Luck Frank.

Funnily enough they did mention that! They enjoyed the day so much, wish I took their address details now.

Inside the ground well before kick off a couple from Adelaide, Australia came up to me to ask a question about Saints, they said they were from Australia and were over for their first Saints match. I had a lovely chat with them for good half hour, telling them all the history and even managed to get Kenzie Benali to interview them pre match. They loved it, Kenzie was brill. They even sat near to me during the match, they loved it, taking lots of video and photos. I remember his name was Phil. Really made my day that they had a fantastic day.

Gareth Rodgers CEO What do we know about him, see him walking in on home matches and taking his place next to Les Reed who sits next to Ralph Kruger. On that note, have not seen much of Kat?

Who will be around for the 50th?!

Fantastic day all round with 40th Anniversary of FA Cup win seeing Big Mac and all the players. Also MLT & SRL. Cortese would never had entertained this.

Please get your facts right. Page 23 Hugh Fisher is pictured as Paul Bennett Page 23 David Peach is pictured as Gerry O'Brien. Page 24 Peter Rodrigues is pictured with Don Taylor, the physio, and not Jim Clunie, the coach, who has since passed away. Oh, I paid £7.50 for this, do I get a discount, no, ripped off for wrong information. Who' 'passes' the 'go to press' without checking. Oh and The Daily Echo costs 68p per copy, more than The Daily Mail 65p.

Walcott, Chamberlain, Chambers? Who else?

A couple of home matches ago while waiting to go into the ground I was approached by Saints staff volunteers to answer questions in a survey about Saints Matchday Magazine, my two main issues was the size of it, too big and too expensive at £4. I like the features on the history by David Bull, Duncan Holley and David Juson. But for me, too big in size and too expensive. Your views?

Is all this true about George Burley?? Surely the homework would have been in place? I can't believe a club of our statue would employ, was there history at Ipswich?

Interesting. Tell more on AGM

Who would have thought we would be in the position we are now? Thinking back, what a shambles the last couple of years were with Lowe, Wilde and Cowan. Wilde buying up shares every week to get rid of Lowe and make himself look a prima donna and get rid of Lowe was a circus. Then to protect their shares losing money, teamed up after being worst enemies! Where are they now? I've never seen them at St Mary's since.

9-3 here, my log in name! Southampton 9 Wolves 3. Hence my first ever game my Dad took me, actually Wolves scored first with bad back pass form Tony Knapp. We were still winning 9-3 with half hour to go, the crowd chanting, 'we want ten, we want ten!' Saw us lose to Man City 1-0 at home. Think another home match was a boring 1-0 win!!! Against Charlton. The front cover of 'Full Time at the Dell' photo shows overhead picture. When we played Leyton Orient in last match I remember my Dad waking me up to Saints have just been promoted.

Met Ray Graydon tonight by chance in my local. He still lives in the area. What a lovely man. We spoke for a good hour and he has fond memories of his time at Saints under Chris Nicholl back in the late 1980s early 1990s. Is still very good friends with Chris Nicholl, they still meet up. He had a brilliant career at Villa playing on the right wing. Played under Ron Saunders. Spoke well of Doug Ellis Chairman at Aston Villa at the time, Brian Little and Bruce Rioch. Said about his winning penalty goal in the 1975 League Cup Final against Norwich at Wembley and so proud his Mum and Dad were there to see it. His biggest achievement were the back to back promotions with Walsall, where fans still stop and to talk to him when he goes back there. Speaks fondly of the time with Washington Diplomats working with Bobby Stokes and big Jim Steele. Was at the start of Matt Le Tiss and Alan Shearers' career and said Matt was a genius. Ray Graydon, what a true gentleman.
