Seems some fans still haven't realised our change in business model last year to lock down everyone on long contracts and bring in stability rather than the yearly player turnover. Money was spent last season on renewals, this season hopefully the investment is made into first XI signings.

Could be wrong but from memory the 1st offense was a fine equal to half of the breach amount. Given they're in Europe they have an extra FFP limit there.

If Virgil goes this summer it'll be for more than he's worth. It's win-win for me. He goes and we get rich or he stays and we keep our top player/captain another season.

Standard Koeman. Spending future money for immediate success before he jumps ship in 2 years. It's a high risk strategy, they could potentially really push on this season or too many changes could destabilise their squad and set them back.

Can we finish higher than eighth in the 2017-18 season?
Ultimatt replied to SaintJackoInHurworth's topic in The Saints
That's mainly because TV money. 8th-18th are all getting massive money now and it's an even playing field. That meant almost all of them strengthened and traded points off each other. Look at the transfer net spend, teams like palace spending £40m+ net while we had the lowest spend of all and actually made £13m profit. Regardless of your thoughts on Puel, you can't argue that our squad weakened and most teams strengthened. The top 7 also scored the most points they have in at least the last decade (I only looked 10 years, maybe 22 years). A weird season on the back of a weirder one (Leicester winning) where a lot of the top teams didn't have Europe and could really focus on the league. -
They also conceded 3+ goals in 6 of the 9 games he played 90 with Bournemouth. That's appalling.

On paper they all have better squads than us right now. Still a long window where we can look to strengthen while others may weaken. Lukaku/Sanchez/Costa are all rumoured to be going. 69 goals 23 assists just between those 3. Absolutely ridiculous. Compare that to our 41 goals total with our top scorer being Redmond with 7. There's every chance one of the top 7 weaken's like we did this season rather than strengthens, and they're all competing in Europe this year while we aren't. 7th is possible and should probably be the expectation on MoPe. -
Basically this. Puel was forced to play negative football with a defensive core of Yoshida/Stephens/Forster. Anything expansive and we were vulnerable at the back.
-
You mean like Puel was labelled too defensive based on his goals scored stats last season, despite spending half the season with our 3rd/4th choice CB's (Yosh/Stephens), the inept Forster, and Shane Long as our most played striker? Despite his team scoring the 3rd most goals the ligue 1 season before with Nice (ahead of a star-studded Monaco). Mmm...

Same with Spurs selling Bale. Spent big money like £26m on Lamela, £26m on Soldado and slipped down the table.

Has Bob Bradley signed yet?
-
Buying low, selling high. Plenty of quality still out there for under £15m. And of course developing English players that sell for a 3x what a foreign ones worth.
-
This jobs a poisoned chalice. A squad well down on quality coupled with over-entitled fans expecting a lot. A club that has a positive transfer net spend in a year when TV money goes through the roof. And a takeover looming from a Chinese group with questionable past dealings. No ambitious manager looking to use us as a stepping stone will risk his reputation here. Really limits our options.
-
It's easy to look "Ambitious" when you get £150m in fees from 2 players (Lukaku/Stones). Without the Stones sale last season their net spend was under £20m.
-
Have we hired Bob Bradley yet?
-
Thrown under the bus by the club and the fans but he'll get a nice payout and shouldn't have a hard time jumping into a new job. Unlucky to be the one in charge during the season we weakened our squad in order to build for the future. The next manager(s) will get the benefits.
-
Lol... Apparently those things only affect every manager except ours
-
Yeh. I think we've made our point. We're letting everyone know that we're not the same selling club as the last few years, having changed strategy and signed everyone to long term deals.
-
I'd buy a 30% stake in Saints. I'd buy 1½ state of the art Staplewood training centres. I'd buy the former world record transfer fee for a defender and still have £10m in change. We're making a killing off VVD. Even in today's money, no defender is worth that much. Trump would be proud of this deal.

We paid more interest than Bournemouth made from all match income Ridiculous.
