I thought I heard Surman himself say in an interview he didn’t want to leave but had to due to the financial implications to Saints at the time if he had stayed - but maybe I dreamt it!
-
I wonder if he has the confidence to score that second goal if he didn’t score the first, had he got off the mark a bit earlier in his time here maybe we’d have seen a different player. Clearly has all the ingredients to be very good, lack of end product thus far is why he plays for us, but you could see what he could do once the confidence was flowing after that first goal. It would be very exciting if him and Alcaraz were still here next season.

As opposed to grown adults having enough time to post thousands of times on an internet forum?

It wouldn’t surprise me if Caballero popped up wherever Selles ends up, as a coach. Selles seems to have used him mainly in that way since taking over.

Will season ticket prices be released now and will you renew?
saintwbu replied to Paul Chuckle's topic in The Saints
Pleased with the prices, personally. When pretty much everything in the country is going up in price, it’s nice to see one go down, especially as most other clubs are putting theirs up (including other relegation threatened PL teams). 6-10% reductions plus an extra 4 games seems very fair to me. -
Then people should stop moaning about us appointing a manager because he plays ‘tippy tappy possession rubbish’ or whatever they want to describe it as, because you’re right, ultimately people just want to watch a competitive team that wins games. Let’s wait and see if the manager does that, before writing him off because of his style of football.

They want high pressin… oh wait no they didn’t like that either

He was crap last night and seemed to be a bit rattled by the stick he was getting off the crowd, but agree he’s looked good this season. As a result i’d expect his next move (if he won’t get games at United) would be above Championship level.
-
He’s one of few managers in the Championship i’ve actually seen some of, in terms of his personality, and actually quite liked what I saw. Whether he’s the right man or not, who knows, but like mentioned above Jones isn’t a reflection of the whole league. Potter and Cooper are both managers that people would have liked here, and both had Swansea on their CV before the jobs that made them popular, maybe Swansea have an eye for a decent British manager.

Not sure why police control rooms and safety make a difference to where the away fans sit, because clearly they pay fuck all attention to the away end as it is. Can’t keep your bottle lid on in the Itchen but you can bring whatever you want into the away end.

If we’re talking current/recent Championship managers then it would probably be Carlos Corberán for me. Took Huddersfield to the play off final, then when he left they needed Warnock to keep them up. Now at West Brom who he took from second bottom to 3 points off the play-offs. Was Bielsa’s assistant at Leeds so the football is decent to watch. Not sure we’d be able to get him though, as he’s already on his 3rd club in about 4 seasons so probably won’t want to move.

Che and Tella in a two or as part of a three would be a great starting point for a good season in the Championship.

Yeah I don’t see how Leicester would fund a £25mil bid given they don’t seem to have a pot to piss in at the moment, and have quite a few defenders on their books. Villa I could definitely see.
-
I think most expect him to go in the summer regardless of what league we’re in. I think he’s probably not delivered the quality and consistency that we might’ve hoped after certain performances, but clearly has all the tools to be a very good defender. Personally i’ve grown to realise he’s probably the worst of all our CB’s with the ball at his feet, but he’s probably the best actual defender. ABK seems to have the best of both so far, albeit still a little raw.
-
Ollie Watkins and Morgan Gibbs-White both went for £30mil+. Beyond that there’s quite a few that have gone from Championship to Prem for over £20mil. Maddison, Webster, Sessegnon to name a few. I’m not suggesting Tella would hit anywhere near £30mil, but he’s English so I think that will always add a bit onto his transfer fee.

He did against Chelsea
-
They also got battered 4-0 by Spurs (who as we know are all over the place at the moment) and lost to a Chelsea team that most teams are getting something out of. Whilst their run of fixtures looked difficult in terms of ‘names’, they’ve been terrible, and haven’t looked like picking up. Clearly Hodgson is not the long term solution but he knows the club and the league inside out, it seems a pretty logical short term plug until they can get a proper manager in the summer.
-
You definitely picked the right match! Glad you enjoyed it.

The only time I heard the Spurs fans on Saturday was a middle aged bloke shouting ‘come here and say that’ to 3 young teenagers who shouted ‘Arsenal, Arsenal’ when walking through the Spurs fans walking down the road after the game. Then when a police officer went to calm him down he started whining about the kids. Embarrassing.
-
He was also injured most of last season too, so chances are he’ll never really be fully fit when he goes with England so it does make you think what’s the point.
-
Did anyone watch Tella against City? I know they got battered but did he trouble them, or look like a Premier League forward? Mara and Djenepo both scored good goals against them for us in the cup, so we know that defence is far from impenetrable.
-
It’s very likely that Tella will be in the Championship team of the year. It’s possible he’ll even be player of the season but i’d expect that’s unlikely. Either way, with some of the prices people have paid for Championship players in recent years, particularly English ones, there is absolutely no way we should be accepting £10mil ffs.

The talk of Redmond changing his game and the ‘Pep’ talk was actually a game under Pellegrino, rather than Ralph. Redmond was already a frustrating player before Ralph arrived, it was Ralph that got a tune out of him for a bit.
-
I completely agree it’s unlikely at the moment we will stay up. But people saying we won’t get 12/15 points or whatever they’re deciding is enough - we’re currently 4 points off Crystal Palace, who have won 1 game since the first week of November in all competitions, and that was against Bournemouth. What do you think the odds are of them getting 10 points or so to stay ahead of us? I guarantee fans of every team above us up to Palace are worried we can catch them, and mathematically we can. But it’ll take beating teams around us, and at the very least not losing to them, to give ourselves any chance.

Fraser Forster has got into the England squad because Nick Pope has pulled out injured. Dean Henderson is also currently out injured, but would normally make the squad. That makes Fraser Forster the 5th choice England goalkeeper. I’m struggling to think of another English goalkeeper in the Premier League who plays even remotely regularly, so he’s essentially in there on the basis of there being nobody else to choose. As someone pointed out on Saturday, he’s the first goalkeeper to concede three goals to us for more than a year - and yet people are clamouring for him back.
