Hello we live on the West Coast, Vale da Telha near to Aljezur. If you visited Portugal now you would find that A de P is now extremely built up and along with Lagos have a large British community. The whole “southern Algarve” is now very busy and mostly holidaymakers.
-
Either way, politics in the UK are now totally kaput. The British are showing their true selves obsessed with the class system which with such a diverse population now is really dead however, peeps are clinging onto the sinking boat for dear life. There was ever only two classes, working and upper. If you had to work for a living, pay your rent/mortgage, taxes etc you are working. The rest were upper. The country is divided now and how the hell is this all going to be repaired? If the government revoke Article 50 there will be hell and if they don’t there will be hell. The government are prepared for riots. It could have been so totally different with several other countries looking keenly on.

I totally agree with this comment and so do many others here Praia da Luz is a very nice holiday resort, this devastated the area for years. I once travelled to Luz in Early May purely for a coffee and to meet friends on the way in was a billboard with the child’s face on defaced. I arrived in Luz to find it empty, I asked what was going on and the parents were on their way apparently so no one wanted to be around, visitors if any and portuguese. There is very little sympathy for the family. More importantly, where is the child? The area is surrounded by National Park, thick undergrowth etc and of course a rugged coastline with a small number of beaches. It’s a beautiful area. I will see if I can watch the programme but I cannot obtain Netflix. To Chez, what about the dog bought over from the UK?

I hate to dispel any of this, I haven’t seen the series. I can tell you, that I have lived here since 2008, we live about 20 minutes from Praia da Luz. There was until a couple of years ago people going door to door collecting for a children’s home on the Algarve. It was a scam, it went on for years as I say certainly from when we arrived. The callers were very plausible and will probably start up again as new people arrive in the area. The Brits are going home and other Northern Europeans are arriving so as newbies are gullible. Sorry can’t see why the point was relevant. Not sure the Portuguese case was half assed. I have read the book. The truth in a lie, very interesting, however banned in the UK I believe? Nothing has got near the truth and after all this time one wonders if there ever will be justice or discovery.

In amongst all this Benji this morning had an excellent view. A public enquiry could go on far past the leave date and really it’s been handled very badly by a remainers as the leader, bad move. Benji is neutral although must have voted one way or another. It would be best now for another vote or a leaver to negotiate not Mrs May, it’s all short term it’s now, next week etc, this is not British let’s be honest, we are planners.
-
I note UJ. That you mention Gove and Hunt as potential leaders. I personally think that Rees-Mogg is a potential in the runners and riders, more so over Hunt. All said, when the Labour Party decided on Corbyn, it ultimately left itself high and dry with no prospect of election. The Labour Party have left themselves in a similar situation to the days of Neil Kinnock with no prospect of ousting their present leader.
-
This is true UJ, however, who will be big enough or have the balls to step into her shoes. Maybe, instead of people signing for A50 to be revoked, a petition to have May removed would be the way forward. This is something the ERG and others could put into force immediately.

The Poll Tax riots in 1990 caused the PM of the day “to turn”. When the Brits get going, they get going, it just takes something to spur them on. I agree with WC this could be the turning point because of the strong feelings in both camps.

John Bercow has thrown a spanner into the works. The meaningful vote cannot be bought back to the table in its present form. We will leave on 29th with no deal unless TM comes back from the council of Europe with an extension. Brexit is cancelled. Kirsty on BBC2 just said ******** shock horror. There is so much swivelling now, it’s becoming swivillier by the minute.

Terrorist Attacks - WARNING: CONTAINS DISTRESSING IMAGES

What an arsehole. I agree dieing for his cause isnt noble, however, it would have saved the state as Hypo said keeping this hatred for the rest of his life and that could be along time. We will see what this morn8ng, our evening in NZ brings when they charge him and any others. He isn’t even a Kiwi. Meanwhile, the City has been in lockdown all night. -

Didn’t want to die though as put up no resistance, cowardice put others to death, save himself. -

As a small country, the size of the Uk with only 4-5mil residents, it felt really, really safe, really friendly. A kiwi would have no problem starting up a conversation with strangers. My second trip in three years, loved it. What has happened today is not NZ way. Passed by your way on the trip up to Rotorua. Will return to visit the free museum regarding the Cook Strait. Love it. Food, questionable though. No mercy for the evil that filmed and put it live and put on social media. Hope that all images are taken down this should not be glorified. Arse hole of the world was Invercargill I believe from Mick Jaggers lips. -

As long as. I have seen footage on the BBC of the police dragging a person out of a car on a main road, they are not messing about with this. -

We have just returned from visiting friends in Christchurch. It’s a small city still recovering from the devastating earthquakes. Now this. Any news on the packages in Auckland Wellington Saint! -
TameSaint I agree with you regarding populism in the UK, it is for those with short lived democracies. It is however worrying with this rise in Europe. Do you however think, that the Labour Party was killed off this evening as their politicians sat firmly in their seats instead of voting.

It used to be called U turns Shurlock, I prefer swiveliest of swivels! A bit of humour in the turmoil.

I can believe this WC. I know people who came out to Portugal on the assumption that the pound would remain 1.48 euros to the UK£! When it dropped to 1.32 in 2011 some went back to the Uk. I find it difficult to understand how people could rely on anything less than 1 : 1.

It appears that the EU elections will not be settled until the Autumn as they have to fill all the top posts and it’s a complete change. Apparently they don’t want to be bothered with the UK indecision whilst they have this going on. It’s more likely that the Eu would prefer an extension past the Autumn when their new ministers are settled in. This could create more problems for the Uk as more and more indecision going on. Let’s face it, if the parliament couldn’t get it right over two years what bloody hope is there even for another year. Some young people on tv tonight said they were losing the will to live. Probably the most sensible comment I have heard this year over brexit!

Tomorrow’s vote. Could be closer than we all think.

Amid the joy, what a story to wake up to.

I wonder these days, if we are all getting a bit over sensitive and so politically correct we are tiring ourselves into knots. Football has always bought out the chanting across the board, it’s not personal but everyone these days seems to take everything personally. -

I guess Maggie May, I don’t trust a word that is written in the papers. I just can’t understand why he didn’t report it to the stewards. If you take your children to a footie match there is always a chance they will be exposed to bad language. Also, were they in the saints supporters stands? Yes, I guess I am burying my head in the sand (no sarcasm at all, and I mean it). -
My partner leaves the Uk on 29/3 so the question is will she be stamped out? In? Not at all? And we can only hope the new UK only lane is open with sufficient staff to cover. Will they wait until 23.00 to enforce?
-
After 29 March, will there be anything further to discuss?

The problem is, it has got into the national newspapers. Did he mention it to a steward? I would doubt it. Could be just another pack of rubbish that the papers write, especially if no one else heard it aroundthe ground. -

So after the first game in their new stadium, 25,000 Spurs fans get life bans for singing ‘yid army That, you must admit would be interesting. On another note, they have pinched our song. I asked a Totty fan if he realised it was actually a hymn? No, came the reply which brings it down to education. Prejudice, racial whatever is used far too extensively these days. They lost yesterday and are bad losers, that’s all.
