It was a crass, ignorant, nasty, inhumane, Islamophobic post from a crass, ignorant, nasty, inhumane, Islamophobic poster. Who can forget his infamous “Thank God my wife isn’t a Muslim” post? He has also told us recently that Kemi Badenoch would get his vote as the next PM. Yes, this Kemi Badenoch. https://news.sky.com/story/amp/tory-vice-chair-kemi-badenoch-says-political-motive-to-islamophobia-call-11544933 Sadly people like this are becoming emboldened to crawl out from under their rocks by inflammatory, ridiculous statements from senior Tories like Anderson, Braverman and Badenoch and they are now getting more vocal support from little known backbenchers too. In the case of two of our resident Islamophobes though, the ones who think it is appropriate to put laughing emojis under posts talking about the dreadful plight of tens of thousands of innocent people, they have been using extremist Islamic groups to have a pop at ordinary Muslims for years. The only difference is that they now feel validated because some pathetic excuses of MPs are desperately trying to stoke up a hate war because they don’t have anything else to fight with at the next election. They know that, by spouting this nonsense, it will attract people like these. The dog whistle never fails, but fortunately there aren’t enough hypochondriacs and Duckhunter’s around to vote in a Tice, Farage, Braverman or Badenoch lead government at the moment. What is particularly worrying is that this particular poster has been working with children. Let’s hope he wasn’t entrusted with teaching them about humanity or empathy. As for Hamas having the power to end this, what utter rubbish. Netanyahu has been looking for an excuse to do this for years. He has made it clear that, no matter what anyone else says or does, he isn’t going to stop.
  2. He shook the Hand Of God instead!
  3. Not been there but have been to the Maldives. It’s okay if you just want to chill, sit in the sun and swim but not a lot else to do. Better hurry up though before they disappear underwater through global warming.
  4. Ah,bless you Weston, but there are many others far more worthy of that accolade. And, to quote the late, great Dame Edna Everage, “If you can’t laugh at yourself, you might be missing the joke of the century”. 😘
  5. Not much to be joyous about at the moment but, to cheer myself up today, I have put some of our most esteemed posters against the fictional characters that they make me think of- some of you youngsters might have to get on Google. Lord Duckhunter = Alf Garnett, Till Death Us Do Part Weston SS = Trigger, Only Fools and Horses AlexLaw76 = Constable Savage, Not The 9 O’Clock News CB Fry = Malcolm Tucker, The Thick Of It hypochondriac = the gormless, spotty character on his own avatar Turkish = Jay Cartwright, The Inbetweeners Me? I’m going for Wolfie Smith, Citizen Smith 😉
  6. They are still being very quiet about Braverman’s very similar comments though. Any hint of antisemitism in the Labour Party and the Tories are on it like Duckie on a 9 pinter down at his local alehouse. Any hint of Islamophobia in their own party and…..not so much. And for those wondering why Labour are having to row back on so many of their original spending plans, this article makes grim reading. https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/2024/feb/25/labour-must-spend-billions-on-welfare-or-poverty-will-soar Good for a laugh though, eh Duckie?
  7. So just better to do and say nothing? It suits the purpose of some as they are happy to see Gaza destroyed (aren’t you?). It is a start and you have to start somewhere. Sanctions should follow if Netanyahu continues with his plan but that will come with further accusations of antisemitism and more pussyfooting around. At least Biden is finally starting to show publicly what he really thinks of Netanyahu. We need to grow a pair and follow suit. The vote was a step in that direction. Anyway, this should be on the Israel thread now, back to the people you support and vote for. It sounds like someone had been in 30p Lee’s ear (or slipped him a metaphorical brown envelope) and persuaded him that the grass is greener over on the far right of the fence. He had become a bit of a joke so why not capitalise on his notoriety by joining a caricature far right party? They are sucking these people in like a black hole. The trouble for the Tories is, having kicked out anyone with either intelligence or an ounce of decency, it will leave their party devoid of anything remotely worth voting for and give us a UKIP/National Front/BNP etc hybrid instead. By trying to appease the far right if his party, Cameron didn’t just give the Brexit on a plate, he also sowed the seeds for its future fragmentation. Word is that Sunak only acted quickly because he was pressured into doing so by a group of “senior Tories”. Funny how you don’t hear the term Tory Grandees any more. I guess that has become an oxymoron. We have watched the rise of the looney far right of American politics with a mixture of amusement and bewilderment over the last few years, but Trump has managed to infect enough voters to destroy anything decent within the Republican Party. What was laughable, ridiculous and almost unthinkable has now become the norm over there. The fact that Trump is back with a decent shot at becoming President again after everything he has done says it all. Whilst we don’t have a Trump, we do have a growing movement of people who share the same agenda/mindset. They have been working away for years, chipping away at the Conservative Party from inside and out. You used to be able to name a few decent Tories and listen to them without wanting to throw a brick at the tv. Now they have become a morally devoid bunch, with no leadership, no ideas and no chance of getting reelected. Reform will siphon off the swivels. Many have already decided to jump ship and not stand at the next election leaving the rest to look for someone remotely sane and with an element of back bone to rally around. Good luck with that. Anyway Duckie, get your Reform Party membership application form in. They will need people like you. 😉
  8. Yep, I can always get plenty of mileage out of dear old Tommy and his enablers! Also those who jump on anybody who criticises Israel or Jewish people but don’t bat an eyelid at blatant Islamophobia. Another example of a morally bankrupt far right Tory trying to stoke up the culture wars. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/lee-anderson-sadiq-khan-racism-rant-b2501640.html Going back to the debacle in the Commons the other day, whilst I agree that all parties were involved in playing political games, I don’t agree that the vote didn’t matter. It did. It took years of internal and international pressure to change things in South Africa. Gaza doesn’t have years but at least more and more pressure is being brought to bear from the West. Going from being shoulder to shoulder with Netanyahu more and more Western leaders are saying that enough is enough. The more pressure brought to bear to cease fighting on both sides the better. The sooner the killing stops the sooner moves can be made to try and find a peaceful solution that will be acceptable to all. Tens of thousands of innocent civilians have already paid the price of the hatred that the Netanyahu government has for the Palestinians and that Hamas has for the Israelis. How many more before meaningful pressure is put on both sides to stop? The vote was a step in the right direction and hopefully will led to greater pressure in future. We also don’t want to end up on the wrong side of history. It is not a good look for the UK to still be standing shoulder to shoulder with Israel should they be found to be guilty of genocide by the International Court.
  9. If either the SNP or the current Tory government had any moral backbone they would have lodged a complaint but carried on with the vote. By walking out both parties put their own political interests ahead of the beleaguered population of Gaza. For those expressing faux outrage, this decision by the Speaker did not set a precedent, it has happened twice before so he was clearly within his rights to accept a further opposition amendment. The main story here is that our parliament has finally called for a ceasefire but it won’t stop those who are happy to see the mass killing of civilians continue trying to make it all about an archaic rule. And yes, neither Netanyahu nor Hamas give a damn what happens in Westminster, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t bring pressure to bear to try and stop the killing and mass destruction. Meanwhile Braverman continues to stoke up the hate war. https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/24139728.yousaf-slams-braverman-worst-politicians/
  10. I have been listening to her speech at CPAC this morning. For those who don’t think that the far right pose a threat to democracy, just listen to the words of a former Prime Minister of the UK and other speakers at this conference. Yes, I know that she is batshit crazy, but then so is Trump and millions of people suck up his every word. We also have Nigel Farage, well know racist, liar, manipulator, self promoter, far right agitator, telling us that Putin is the politician he most admires. This is the same Nigel Farage who many political commentators think has a shot at becoming a future leader of the Tory Party. No doubt a laughing emoji will soon appear below this post from the resident Farage fanboy, but you only need to know that he says that the most right wing government we have had in a very long time are a bunch of “pinkos” to get his number.
  11. Oh dear. Her tactics don’t seem to be working. Duckie/hypo will have us believe that it is due to the colour of her skin rather than the fact that she is a nasty piece of work peddling lies and nasty politics. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/kemi-badenoch-second-last-in-voters-preference-for-next-tory-leader-poll-shows/ar-BB1iH6yy?ocid=hpmsn&cvid=e99570515bc54d29947deaaa2b3f4180&ei=11 The two resident laughing hyenas can have another chuckle but fail to realise the laugh is on them and the people they support.
  12. You would know all about the 70’s as you have been stuck there for the last 45 years. So now not only can we not criticise anyone who just happens to be Jewish, we can’t criticise anyone with a different skin colour. The irony seems lost on you being a supporter of not only dude in the wool racist Nigel Farage but “Big Dog” Johnson who has made several blatantly racist comments over the years yet you haven’t said a word about that. You are the one making the issue about skin colour. Perhaps spend less time looking for 9 pinters at your local ale house and more time thinking about what you post when you finally stagger home? Remind me again how those trade talks are going with Canada? Oh wait, she lied about them. More evidence of her being economic with the truth. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/lgbt-ben-bradshaw-prime-minister-commons-canada-b1140671.html Those familiar with the work of political sketch writer John Crace will know that he is concerned with the behaviour of politicians, not the colour of their skin. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/feb/19/it-must-be-exhausting-to-be-kemi-badenoch-anger-her-ever-faithful-companion
  13. I would assume that Nick Griffin would be supporting Kemi Badenoch considering they share the same politics. Truly odd post from a person who firmly supports the likes of Nigel Farage though.
  14. One of them is lying. My money is on Kemi Badenoch. The same Kemi Badenoch who hacked into Harriet Harman’s website and somehow managed to avoid a prison sentence in 2008. The same Kemi Badenoch who is trying to position herself as the next leader of the Tory party. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/kemi-badenoch-post-office-horizon-wh-smith-government-b1140557.html https://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/kemi-badenoch-henry-staunton-post-office-scandal-compensation-b1140550.html https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2024/02/20/might-a-party-that-thinks-badenoch-is-the-answer-to-any-question-ever-likely-to-be-fit-to-govern-again/
  15. Maybe time to change your name from hypochondriac to hypocrite? 😂
  16. I don’t know what the European perception of the UK is nowadays, but given our spoilt brat “we are special” attitude when we were members of the EU, the car crash referendum and the complete mess we have made of life post Brexit, I wouldn’t be surprised if the general attitude towards us is very negative.

This is the third post on this thread. You would have to go some to make out that this comment is anyway antisemitic, but that is we are these days. Netanyahu has done a good job of conflating Israel and Judaism. As we know, if you criticise a Jewish person you are labelled an antisemite by some. The same is happening now when you criticise the actions of the Israeli government. It comes to something when you feel you can’t comment on the death of over 28,000 people and the destruction of large swathes of housing, hospitals, schools, universities etc without facing a pile on and a deliberate misinterpretation of your posts. As Gary Lineker would say, it is reminiscent of what went on in the 30’s. And in reference to the word “their”, yes, I was referring to those responsible for the actions against the Palestinian people. I thought that was pretty obvious but then I forgot about the small group of posters with an agenda.
  18. Yeah, but what about Ed Davey? https://amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/feb/18/former-post-office-boss-stall-horizon-compensation-payouts
  19. Didn’t de Gaulle die over 50 years ago and before the EU was the EU? I think that you will find that the world has moved on a bit since the 1960’s.

100% this. I have not seen any down playing of the Hamas attack on 7th October, quite the opposite. Calling out the actions of the IDF has nothing to do with downplaying the horrors of the initial attack. It has been said many times but there is a huge difference between real antisemitism and criticising the agenda and methods of the present Israeli government and their military. Sadly the methods of dealing with that criticism often results in the erroneous playing of the antisemitic card, which as has been said, does the Jewish people no favours as it diminishes real cases of antisemitism. What is also clear is that there are people who are fine with Islamophobia but get in a real lather about what they consider to be antisemitism. Any normal, rational person would recognise that any form of discrimination against racial, religious or other minority groups is not ok. There are normal, rational people on this thread who understand that but there is also a small group of people who either don’t get it, or chose to ignore it just to score points and stir things up. Hundreds of innocent people were killed or maimed in the horrendous attack of 7th October. Since then tens of thousands more innocent people have been killed or maimed. Neither are ok.

And the current Israeli government and their enablers feel exactly the same about the Palestinians. I think most of us understand that this goes back a lot further than 7th October and that there are factions on both sides who want the others gone. There are also those who want peace and to find a way for peaceful cohabitation. This isn’t going to happen as long as the Israelis, who have a great deal more power than the Palestinians, continue to abuse that power. It’s not rocket science that if you keep kicking you are going to get kicked back. History shows us that it doesn’t matter how many Palestinians the Israelis kill, it doesn’t bring Israel any more security. If anything it just makes reprisals more likely. If they want a more secure future perhaps they need to stop stealing land from the Palestinians, let the people in Gaza live like everybody else, and show the Arab world that they are prepared to live side by side in peace. Why wouldn’t Hamad want them gone. They consistently ignore international law and UN resolutions. Maybe they should try to show hat they are prepared to live side by side and in peace and give the Palestinians a chance to do the same without treating them like “human animals”. Frankly it is hard to understand how anyone who was horrified at the attack on 7th October can be perfectly ok with what has happened since. Forget religious differences, on what planet does the destruction of Gaza equate to a proportionate response to what happened on 7th October? Israel are going to end up isolating themselves in the international community the same way that South Africa did.

This incident was covered in a phone in on LBC yesterday and a couple of people who were at the show phoned in. It sounds horrendous and isn’t going to do Currie’s career any favours. Sounds like he lost the plot big time. Back to the Labour problem. I have no idea if Azhar Ali is an antisemite but he does seem to have a good relationship in the past with members of the Jewish community. People will have their own view on what he said. Personally I don’t see a problem with thinking that Netanyahu didn’t have a problem with the attack and used it as an excuse to flatten Gaza. It is an opinion and given the firm evidence we have about how much intel he had before the attack it is not without some traction. It could be completely wrong but accusing him of it does not make you an antisemite. It makes you critical of Netanyahu for his actions and not of his religious standing. His comments about those in the media using antisemitism to shut down debate and criticism of Israel is also not without foundation. There are Jewish people (and non people) who play the antisemitic card on a regular basis to push back against any negativity directed towards Israel. Strangely it happens more so against those left of centre. Apparently those on the right of centre are allowed to criticise the Israeli actions without the immediate assumption that their concerns are based on a hatred of Jewish people, I have been slagged off many times for making the same point despite the fact that many Jewish people feel that antisemitism has been weaponised too. Just one of many such opinions from a Jewish person. https://www.jewishvoiceforlabour.org.uk/article/for-the-safety-of-jews-and-palestinians-stop-weaponizing-antisemitism/

What I don’t get is that, through his own words, Duckhunter says that anyone who criticises a Jewish person is anti semitic. Lots of people who have criticised the action of the Israelis have been labelled as anti semitic. You can criticise Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Hindus etc all you like, but as soon as you question the actions of the Israeli government you get jumped on as being antisemitic. Those who use antisemitism to shut down valid criticisms are the small minded ones.
