Absolutely right that this is not a war and that is the main issue here. For the IDF it is like shooting fish in a barrel. The Palestinian people have been herded around a relatively small area of land and have been targeted everywhere they go with no means of escape. They have been denied food, water, medical aid etc. In a war the civilian population can and do move away from the front lines. They can be reached or find aid. They can even make their way to more secure countries. The Palestinian people have no where to go because they have been blockaded for years by the Israelis. Anyone watching the news night after night since last October knows this. To try and pretend that this situation is somehow just another normal armed conflict like say Russia and Ukraine is to try and make excuses for the actions of the Israeli forces under Netanyahu. The reason why so many people are marching or critical of the Israeli actions has nothing to do with hating the Jewish people and everything to do with being sickened at the way large numbers of people are being treated by very well and heavily armed troops intent on raizing their homes and communities to the ground and killing as many of them as they can in the process. This is nothing like a normal war. Netanyahu doesn’t give a flying **** about the hostages. If he did he would take more care in his reprisals against the Palestinian people. The IDF wouldn’t have shelled Israeli homes and a police station full of their own people. To excuse these actions as “messy” is no better than excusing the actions of all those engaged in ethnic cleansing through the ages. This is a deliberate act and has nothing to do with being “messy”. Yes, the actions of Hamas were abhorrent on 7th October but what has happened since is a whole different scenario. Even Israel staunchest allies are now embarrassed by the scale of the deliberate reprisals against women and children and have taken a step back. Hamas are no more effective in this situation than a one legged man in an arse kicking competition. They are not an army. They have no air support. No navy. No artillery. No tanks. They are relatively small groups of terrorists penned in a relatively small area fighting against one of the best armed and drilled fighting machines on the planet. Netanyahu has made it clear he is not going to stop if the remaining living hostages are released. He has made it clear that he is intent on wiping Hamas off the face of the earth but no one knows exactly how many that is and we will never know exactly what is going on and how near he is to achieving that because unlike in “war” outside journalists are not allowed to operate under normal conditions by the Israelis. The only people who can’t see the difference here are those who are totally polarised in their views in support of Israel or who are Islamophobic. Anyone with an ounce of common sense and common decency can understand what is happening and why. This is NOT war. This is ethnic cleansing, pure and simple. And when people follow posts like this with laughing emojis they just make themselves look like a-holes. We have seen in modern warfare just how targeted military responses can be. The Israeli intelligence forces have shown over the years how they can take out individual targets with surgical precision. What they are doing here and now is a carefully planned operation to flatten Gaza and to totally decimate the area to the extent that the living conditions for ordinary civilians no longer exist. Ordinary civilians have been targeted under the excuse that some terrorists may be hiding amongst them. They have even been deliberately targeted when it is clear that no Hamas members are present. Carry on trying to make excuses for what is going on, more and more people see it for what it is.

Heaven forbid Badger, but I was actually referring to a different poster though I guess it also applies to him given his complete disdain towards certain sections of humanity and complete indifference to their suffering. The same individuals still think the death and destruction of tens of thousands of innocent people is worthy of a laughing emoji.

It’s incredible isn’t it? Anyone would think that Netanyahu and the IDF didn’t have a choice in the way that they planned their military response. Still, this particular poster thinks that the tens of thousands of dead civilians deserved all they got because they were wives, children, uncles, aunties, mothers, fathers, grand mothers, grandfathers and friends of the Hamas military. And that doesn’t include their own countrymen and women that have been killed by “friendly fire”. I guess they deserved what they got too for being too near Hamas fighters. Oh, and the two Israeli hostages who were shot whilst waving a white flag and clearly unarmed. Not near Hamas at the time but they had been previously so it is clearly down to Hamas that they were shot dead by their own countrymen. Hilarious.

  6. If the reports are true, I am not sure about the wisdom of cutting the size of the NI pot with an aging population and the triple lock still in place on state pensions. The cynic in me thinks that this is a way of them saying they are cutting taxes whilst making life even more difficult financially for the next government.
  7. And you are really not very good at this are you? If you think calling me names makes any difference when your posts fail you are sadly deluded. I also don’t watch GB News as per your post in a different thread. Anyway, back to this failing PM and government. The Lords have done what most logical people would do with his Rwanda bill. If he had one ounce of nous he would have ditched it as soon as he took office. Another example of his weakness and poor decision making. He is in hock to the right wing of his party and it will add to his and the party’s downfall. https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2024/mar/04/lords-pass-five-amendments-to-rwanda-bill-in-heavy-defeat-for-rishi-sunak

Still, we can all take solace when the IDF tell us they are taking care to keep civilian casualties to a minimum. Let’s add those who were shot trying to get food the other night to the list too. Worth another laughing emoji?
  9. My apologies if you are not the same Weston Super Saint who uses the adjective “pesky” in an attempt to get a bite.
  10. Some people put charisma over integrity, competence, humanity, empathy and the interests of ordinary people. These people tend to lean towards the far right but will also latch on to freaks like Galloway. This particular poster still gets hot over Thatcher when most normal people now understand what a disaster she was for this country and how she sowed the seeds for looking after number 1 over what is best interests for all. This particular poster will also remember that Galloway had a close relationship with his hero Nigel Farage over Brexit so no surprise that he is a fanboy of his too.
  11. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/picture/2024/mar/02/mob-rule-the-tory-right-has-rishi-sunak-on-a-short-leash-cartoon#img-1 This cartoon perfectly sums up Rishi Sunak and the Tory party at the moment. His own party members are trying to stoke up the hate war and he does little or nothing about it other than calling a surprise briefing on Friday in which he, again, completely ignored his own party members complicity in trying to take the focus off the dire state of the country and try and turn it onto pesky foreigners and their issues (that one is for you Weston 😉). Do us a favour Rishi, call another one of these surprise briefings on Monday, but this time announce an election in May.
  12. I am not crying. I just feel sorry for the people who end up with the likes of Galloway, Truss, Braverman, Anderson, Dorries, Johnson etc for their MPs in the same way I feel sorry for the UK after Brexit. It’s the downside of democracy. You often get your hopes shafted by other people’s choices. The next election is going to be unpleasant enough without throwing George Galloway into the mix. Also putting personalities to one side, the people of Rochdale were denied the choice of an official Labour candidate. Irrespective of what happens at the next election, that is not good for their democratic rights. We have enough tw@s in Parliament already, this particular one is going to make things even worse, if only for 6 months.
  13. If you are going all MLG then 12,335 voted for him and of the turn out 18,772 voted for other candidates. Several people interviewed on the radio today who voted for him had no idea about his past. Yes, they might well end up thinking that he is the best thing since sliced bread. His history would suggest otherwise. https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/2024/mar/01/george-galloway-wins-rochdale-byelection https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/2024/mar/01/george-galloway-constituency-hopping-campaigner-who-is-rarely-far-from-controversy
  14. That won’t sit well with the likes of Truss, Braverman, Anderson etc. No good him holding out an olive branch to minority groups if many of his front and back benchers are trying desperately to stoke up the culture wars. As you say, perhaps his new plan is to force the far right out and try and position himself as the banner bearer of a new centre right. It’s a bit late for that Rishi. Your pathetic handling of the Islamophobic faction of your party hasn’t gone unnoticed. Elsewhere, sad news for Rochdale. Not only were their democratic rights ignored by archaic parliamentary rules (they should have been given the opportunity of having a replacement Labour candidate when Ali was suspended from the party), but they are now stuck with the deeply dodgy George Galloway for 6 months. As if Rochdale doesn’t have enough problems.

For once I agree with you, but I will leave you with this. Happy that the current Israeli regime doesn’t allow journalists into Gaza unless they have control? And I have no problem with “confirmation bias” given what is going on there. I really don’t have a problem with calling out the massacre of innocent people, whichever side of the conflict they are on. Go back and read the early posts if you don’t believe me. https://news.sky.com/story/amp/israel-hamas-war-our-first-mission-as-journalists-is-to-tell-the-full-story-denied-access-to-gaza-we-cannot-do-that-13082634 By the way Weston, judging by your posting history, we both know that if I was to say that today is Friday, you would be straight on here saying that it isn’t and calling me racist, antisemitic, datest or whatever for claiming that it is.

This first part is for you Weston. Forgive me but I try and ignore your posts as much as possible so I am not across this as well as I might be. I have seen you use the phrase “pesky Jews” a few times which, I assume, is your attempt to make some kind of point against those posting about the disproportionate retaliation by Netanyahu and the IDF? Given that Netanyahu, his far right extremist cabinet members, the IDF and their enablers are being investigated for war crimes and possible genocide, why would you use a word like “pesky” to describe them? Would you describe the likes of Stalin, Hitler and Pol Pot as “pesky dictators” ? Why try and minimise what is going on by conflating the situation with an episode of Scooby Doo? Now on to the current issue of the threats to MPs. Clearly it is troubling and these people should be able to carry out their duties without death threats or threats of violence. For those making it an issue about ProPalestinian protesters, I trust you were equally concerned and posted those concerns here when Jo Cox was murdered by a white supremacist? We wouldn’t want any double standards here would we?

Not one person doesn’t believe that extremists don’t pose a threat in the UK. God knows we have seen enough terror attacks in this country. That includes the killing of MPs by extreme nationalists by the way. What I find interesting is the way some of you pass off the blame of the deliberate killing of tens of thousands of innocent civilians and the destruction of large swathes of the Gaza infrastructure as the fault of Hamas. Netanyahu had choices in the way he carried out his reprisal. He has chosen to deliberately kill women, children, babies, the elderly, the sick and the infirm. This is called “common punishment”. The use of “common punishment” is a war crime. You are quick to call out atrocities carried out by Hamas. Perhaps you should also, in the interest of balance, understand that atrocities have been and are also being carried out by the Israelis. You won’t though because you blame all Muslims for the actions of a minority. And before you try and pretend otherwise, when I have argued on a previous thread about terrorism that you can’t blame all Muslims for the actions of a minority, you disagreed. You said that all Muslims in the UK were complicit in the actions of the extremists because they didn’t go to the police with information about terrorists. Somehow, in your hatred for Muslims, you have decided that all Muslims know and fully support what a minority of extremists plans are. It is exactly the same blind, mad, logic that Netanyahu is using to justify the killing of tens of thousands of innocent civilians. Netanyahu had choices when he planned his retaliation against Hamas. To blame Hamas for those choices is a weak and pathetic attempt to absolve Netanyahu of any responsibility for what may well legally found to be genocide. If this Government had any moral backbone, it would have called for an end to the killing as soon as his plans to destroy Gaza became apparent. They were too afraid of being labelled antisemitic to do anything but to stand by Netanyahu. The reason so much pressure is now being brought to bear on Parliament to change its stance is because so many people are now sick and tired of the daily death and destruction and want to see our elected representatives (the Government) actively putting pressure on both sides to stop the killing and to start working towards a lasting peace. You get yourself into a right old lather about pressure being put upon MPs by those who want to see an end of the deliberate attacks on Palestinian civilians but you don’t raise a peep about the pressure being put on MPs when they dare to criticise the actions of Israelis. You clearly don’t have a problem with the fact that antisemitism trumps Islamophobia in British politics. I think most of us would just prefer that innocent civilians on both sides were both given equal footing and respect.

Not that this will make the slightest difference to the Islamophobes, after all, Khan is a Muslim and deserves all he gets where ever it comes from. https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/2024/feb/27/sadiq-khan-faces-death-threats-from-islamist-extremists-source-says

It was a crass, ignorant, nasty, inhumane, Islamophobic post from a crass, ignorant, nasty, inhumane, Islamophobic poster. Who can forget his infamous “Thank God my wife isn’t a Muslim” post? He has also told us recently that Kemi Badenoch would get his vote as the next PM. Yes, this Kemi Badenoch. https://news.sky.com/story/amp/tory-vice-chair-kemi-badenoch-says-political-motive-to-islamophobia-call-11544933 Sadly people like this are becoming emboldened to crawl out from under their rocks by inflammatory, ridiculous statements from senior Tories like Anderson, Braverman and Badenoch and they are now getting more vocal support from little known backbenchers too. In the case of two of our resident Islamophobes though, the ones who think it is appropriate to put laughing emojis under posts talking about the dreadful plight of tens of thousands of innocent people, they have been using extremist Islamic groups to have a pop at ordinary Muslims for years. The only difference is that they now feel validated because some pathetic excuses of MPs are desperately trying to stoke up a hate war because they don’t have anything else to fight with at the next election. They know that, by spouting this nonsense, it will attract people like these. The dog whistle never fails, but fortunately there aren’t enough hypochondriacs and Duckhunter’s around to vote in a Tice, Farage, Braverman or Badenoch lead government at the moment. What is particularly worrying is that this particular poster has been working with children. Let’s hope he wasn’t entrusted with teaching them about humanity or empathy. As for Hamas having the power to end this, what utter rubbish. Netanyahu has been looking for an excuse to do this for years. He has made it clear that, no matter what anyone else says or does, he isn’t going to stop.

  24. Not been there but have been to the Maldives. It’s okay if you just want to chill, sit in the sun and swim but not a lot else to do. Better hurry up though before they disappear underwater through global warming.
  25. Ah,bless you Weston, but there are many others far more worthy of that accolade. And, to quote the late, great Dame Edna Everage, “If you can’t laugh at yourself, you might be missing the joke of the century”. 😘
