But what if he is not good enough yet? Shaw and others got their chance because they clearly were.

Because some posters are desperate to prove that they didn't wet their beds for nothing over the last two summers. We are a decent team but we have had some awful luck with injuries right from pre season and I still think we have yet to see the best of us so far. Perhaps we don't have the strength in depth that we thought we had but we really aren't a poor team. Apart from last night of course which was total carp.

To be fair it worked brilliantly for about 20 minutes!

Fair question. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if he hadn't been injured. He really cant be any worse than Caulker and Yoshi though can he?
-
No but he was bought for cover as Targett had to step up.
-
Indeed. A shot might be goal bound but within easy reach of the keeper whereas it also could be goal bound but bound for the corner of the goal giving the keeper less chance.

I really struggle to see how he was expected to save any of those last night. Liverpool's finishing was deadly. In fact I can think of many goals he has let in all season where you can say he definitely should have saved that. Maybe the second last night that he did get something on but then he was still alone and left with a one on one and Sturridge nearly fluffed it.

Would we have brought in Caulker and Martina if Gardos and Bertrand hadn't been injured? As for Clasie, we have yet to see the best of him. I am sure he will come good.

Agree with that, especially Tadic I didn't think Stek had much chance with any of them to be fair. He was given no cover and how often does virtually every shot on target go in? Liverpool played well last night and strangely I think we would have given them a better game if they had played a full strength team. Koeman hasn't become a bad manager overnight and the team haven't become poor overnight but it is very clear, if it wasn't before, that we could do with a couple of players in January.

Absolutely. Hopefully her family can find some kind of closure now but the initial verdict was odd to say the least.

I am sure he is. He isn't the sort to take this with a pinch of salt but at the same time he doesn't lose it. We need him to have a cool head right now. He has a lot to sort out before the Villa game.

Tonight doesn't excuse how bad Yoshida has been for some time.
-
Why would they say anything? Up until City were we unbeaten on the road and until tonight things weren't going too badly.
-
Well at least I try to be optimistic and not see a negative in everything, but if that is a problem, sorry.
-
At least Alpine will be happy.

Woohoo!

I see now that those who do not support the bombing will be deemed to support the terrorists! How do you figure that out Dave?

Which is all very well but how do you target these individuals?

I think "The Southampton Way" was a smoke and mirrors phrase dreamt up by The Don to hoodwink the fans into thinking we would dominate world football under his guidance.

That rumour surprised me no end given that another rumour suggested that we had offered Morgan £60k to stay! Gotta love a good rumour!

Some Americans with the same (unusual) surname got in touch with my uncle a while back asking for information about our family tree. They sent him what they had found and it seems like we were Germans back in the 17th C and eventually came here via Ireland with the Huguenots. Probably explains my unique marching style.

We were thin on the ground squadwise and needed a bigger squad for Europe, although that didn't last long. Anyone can come on here and say the club needs to spend money. That has been going on for years. The difference now I think is that, having seen where running the club badly financially gets you, many of us don't fancy that again. It is not what you spend that is important it is who you spend it on (Osvaldo and Ramirez for example). Everything changes on here when we lose a game or two. It was only a couple of weeks ago that the forum was saying that we had a poorer first team but a stronger squad. Now it seems we don't because we have lost two matches on the spin (despite us only just losing our unbeaten away record). There is no shame in being a mid Premiership side with ambitions for Europe which is exactly what we are. As for the three players mentioned, up until recently Romeu was seen as a decent addition to the squad and Ron has always talked of Juanmi as being one for the future. Martina is just a short term make weight who probably wouldn't be here if it wasn't for our short lived Europe campaign. VvD and Clasie are both quality signings and Cedric is not a bad player. Stek has been an excellent addition to the club.
