You should be able to wear a football shirt of your choosing anywhere without getting attacked. Scum.

Thing is, once they go - no more Royal weddings, state funerals etc. An "active" monarchy, for all of is faults, does generate a lot more business for GB than a dead one.
-
But they don't rule us do they? We rule ourselves through Parliament. You could argue that they are not elected but given some of the buffoons that have got the job in the USA and other parts of the world perhaps it is better to keep some kind of Royal thing going as notional Head of State? Get shot of the irritating minor royals though and give the job to William once Liz pops her royal clogs. The royal family needs to be updated and the royal list trimmed back, but this stuff does still generate a lot of dosh through tourism. If we were to become a Republic, how would you feel with people like Blair lining up for the job as President? Where's the harm in some nice benign old lady waving and opening the few hospitals we can afford?

I said at the time because at the time it wasn't. It took until after Christmas for Adkins to really get into gear. We still don't know if we are going up and perhaps with Pardew we would have gone up as Champions?

Just for the record Alps, I hanker for the days when we were playing in the top flight year after year and playing in the F A Cup final. The people you refer to so disparagingly made that happen. I hope the new people can do just as well as there are probably people on here who have only known one or two years of top flight football. It can't have been easy keeping things going on gates of 15k. It must be easier to be ambitious now with no debts.

I have been a Saints fan since 1966. In that time we have been promoted twice, both as runners up. The best we can do this time is runners up too. We have never won a league in that time and the only heavy duty trophy win was the FA Cup, once. Despite spending a lot of cash we are not the best club in the third tier of English football this season. Can we just stop with the superior nonsense please?

Oh dear, he we go again......

I think I was expecting a bit more from the last window David. Don't have a problem with Chaplow as we knew about him from before. Not seen much of Stephens to be fair. It was more Forte and N'Guessan that I have not been impressed with. I think Pardew brought in more class and we shall certainly need some better players after promorion if we are going to make an impact in the CCC. Looks like we have lost out on Danns to Hull which is a shame. I think we pretty much expected promotion this season whoever the manager was. Assuming we do go up of course, a lot more will be expected of Nigel in the close season and beyond.

As things stand at the moment we dodged a bullet with one lot of potentail owners and came up trumps with Markus. Hopefully the family will stay put and we will be ok. We could still end up being sold on to people not so ambitious. Administration is a lotterty that we happened to do well in. As for being superior Phil....hmmmm.

There is a difference. Manchester United are roundly hated because they step over that line. You can demand excellence and win trophies without that awful arrogance. And let's face it, when you are a third divison club travelling around the country lording it up because you were a Prem club for so many years you are just going to make yourself look stupid. We must have one of the smallest trophy cabinets in the country and we are a big club. Really?
-
Unfortunately it is this "superiority complex" which makes so many other clubs hate us. We kicked off when Brighton got arsey with us and laughed at their "superior" attitude. A little humility goes a long way, especially when you are in Division 1 and and fighting th mighty Huddersfield off for second place!!!

Surely it is not how you start or finish, it is whether you end up with the three points? Fair play to Adkins, this half of the season he has got the team grinding out results. Teams like Man U don't always play fantastic football but they do usually manage to up a gear and get the goal(s) to win games and that is what we have been doing since Christmas. It probably helps that Huddersfield are keeping up the pressure as there is no room for error. Adkins and his players know that they have to go out and win every match and that helps the focus. I am particularly pleased that he went for the 3 points at Brighton too rather than take his foot off the gas and go for winning the remaining games.

Parents 'responsible for children's bad behaviour'
sadoldgit replied to Thorpe-le-Saint's topic in The Lounge
My partners son recently split up with his girlfriend. She was 15 when they met. She uses language like a trooper on Facebook. Sleeps around and brags about it on Facebook. Has caused £650 of damaged by smashing a plate glass window of a shop she worked in but was sacked from and talked about it on Facebook. She does drugs and is you basixc nightmare. Her parents are on Facebook as her friends so read all of this and yet do nothing about her behaviour. Teachers can only do so much but parents need to be responsible for their own childen's behaviour. When I was at school the teachers used to carry canes and could dish out punishment on the spot. I was terrfified of thm. Now kids have no respect for teachers (or parents) and this has to change. -
Didn't we have that last season too? Perhaps not to the same extent but Pardew said his job was to turn the losing mentality around and he went a long way towards that by winning a trophy.
-
Well done to Adkins but we expected to be challenging for promotion this season didn't we? We started with minus 10 last year were not far off the play offs at the end and won a cup. Adkins has bulit on what Pardew acheived in one season but he hasn't finished the job yet and there is still next season to come. I am not convinced by the players he has brought in and, given that we will go up this season, next season will be a true measure of the man. But for now he is doing what we pay him to do and I hope he manages to pull off 2nd spot.

THis business about the ball boys really hacks me off. Have them or don't have them but don't mess about during the game. Its about time there was a ruling as it affects the game so much. They don't change the offside rule during the game or the size of the ball - so why allow people to include or withdraw ball boys???
-
An ex girlfriend of mine did his first heart op. Good luck to him.
-
Good luck to Brighton. They have had a storming season and done better than us. I also hope we beat then today and go on to secure 2nd place. Everything else is just nonsense.
-
But then sacking Pardew was hardly the smartest move at the time was it?
-
QUestionable that he was the best, no better tha Roy Keane to me but yes, I think most people would have liked him in their side. Just a nasty piece of work though and that should be recognised and not glossed over.

If Ronney had lunged at a player like that yesterday he would have been crucified. Scholes does it and the 'tators tell us to forget because of his "brilliant" career. Yep, the bloke can play, but he has also been sent off 10 times in said "brilliant" career. In my book that says he is a clogger who can play. The look on his face when he got the red card said it all. It was if he couldn't believe it. Glad to see that Fergie paid the price for his players lack of discipline. Scholes, off, Rooney suspended and MoanU out of the cup. Happy days. Also how come 5 minutes extra time became 5 mins 30 secs? Fergie time again.

Saints 1 V 0 Bristol Rovers, post match sighs of relief..
sadoldgit replied to saint lard's topic in The Saints
We won without playing well and are still in an automatic promotion spot yet still there is bickering on here? Let's save it for when we lose eh? 3 points is 3 points and we need every last one if we are to avoid the play offs. -
All we need to focus on is getting as many points as possible.
-
We didn't get much press even when we finished runners up to Liverpool in the old Div 1 days. We have never been a "big club" hence have never really been on the media's radar. They couldn't avoid us in 1976 though

If that is the family stand can you imagine what the other stand looks like? Looks like a recruiting ground for the BNP.
