That is becuse religion has very little to do with geographical boundaries.

England starting XI for Euro 2012 qualifiers
sadoldgit replied to saints_is_the_south's topic in General Sports
Would love to see a shake up but am prepared to bet that most of this squad will make up the first squad of the next campaign. And I don't agree about Cole at all. Quick yes but an awful defender. -
Redknapp, Branfoot and Chris Nicholl - the later for wasting the legacy that McMenemy left behind.
-
Surely you get the point Wes? Don't you find it ironic that the geezer we are supposed to doff out hats to as being our patron Saint is a Johnny Foreigner???
-
Remember when we said play the Sints kids, they couldn't do any worse. We did and they did! I hav eno problem with a foreign coach but they should be able to speak the langauage. If the can't communicate with the players what is the point? We do have some decent players, what we don't have is a team.

Who actually runs the England football team ?

I don't think that Capello hs covered himself in glory this campaign but the players really should take most of the blame. -
Probably not although it is hard to see things getting any better with him here. Who else though? Redknapp? God help us.
-
I don't think that the manager has to be English, he just has to pick the best squad and get a decent team together. Upson, Wright-Phillips, Lennon, Heskey....why? Gerrard on the left. Terry on the right. Two full back who can't defend and who have no postional sense. Lampard and Gerrard together. No no 1 keeper going intot the competition. Taking players who are not fit - King, Barry, Rooney. David Beckham. Why? Grey shirts (ddidn't someone think to tell Capello about grey shirts, even under suits). Lets face it, we just don't have the right DNA for these competitions. It worked for us once in 1966 but can you honestly see this country ever winning another World Cup?
-
Good point. I bet they are sitting in the dressing room not believeing how easy it was for them today.
-
If we had lost 1-2 it would have been. As it was we were comfortably beaten and the talking point should be why have we been so rubbish this World Cup???
-
Apart from a couple of short sections of the game the Germans were vastly superior to us. Unfortunately for us, football is not just about ability, it is about the thought process too. Most of our players probably have trouble tying their own bootlaces. When your World Cup hopes hang on a player whose emotional menatl age is 14 then you are in trouble. Roonet has failed on the World stage because he is still a boy. Wach the likes of Pele and Maradona and Cruyff. True greats because they were grown ups. Rooney had two chances to play other people in against Algeria but on both occasions elected to try a shot. Exactly what you would expect on the school playing field. Contrast that with how the Germans set up their goals for each other. We have the ability but we don't have the mental maturity at this level.
-
Has spent months and months telling us on Talksport that we should not have goal line technology. C*ck.
-
I don't mind that we were beaten by a better team, but I do mind that we have played so far below a reasonable level of competency it is embarrasing. We are one of the worst teams in this competition.
-
We were, you are right. We actually got better after 1966 but never won anything again. Ramsey was a quaility manager at International level and so was Bobby Robson. Sadly we have not found anyone of their quality since.
-
They may be well paid, but they are not the brightest/strongest mentally, where it counts at this level. Kevin Keegan was not the most gifted player but he used is brain and made the step up - something Roonet is incapable of doing it seems. We have players who can perfom week in week out in the Prem no problem. but take them out of their comfort zone and they are lost. The only player we have who could perform to the same level abroad is Gerrard.
-
The Battle of Britain was crucial but if we had lost that there were plenty of other places that the American could have used as a foothold. Spain, Northern Africa. The tide turned once they pitched in and the Russians kept their nerve. Hitler, like Napoleon, over reached himself.
-
But this has happened for years, even before the influx of the foreign stars.
-
Gerrard is WorldClass if you use him properly, but that is it. Rooney might have ability but he does not have a brain. We have plenty of players who are good enough to perform week in week out on the Prem stage but all too few how can step up to the higher level. I have heard people say that Ashley Cole is a World Class defender. No he is not. Johnson is okay but not at this level. Our defence is poor. The keeper poor. The midfield lack what it takes. No real goal threat up front. We flattered to device in a weak qualifying group. 4 games. Adequate in one and very poor in the other three.

I agree, the players need to be held accountable. This lot looked like park players. All too often managers get slagged when the players don't do what they are supposed to.
-
Capello made mistakes in his team selection but the players in the pitch played like park players. Why is it when a player pulls on an England shirt his ability seems to diminish? Cole and Johnsin can't defend. Upson should not have been in the sqaud. Terry doesn't have the brain to defend on the right side. Why bring Heskey on when you need a goal? Why persist with Rooney whebn his head or fitness is not right? Truly rubbish from top to bottom.
-
He did indeed. TP had a diving header that went just over the bar. I think he may have picked up an injury in that game but Ramsey decided to use overlapping fullbacks in a 4-3-3 formation and the rest is history (including the end of Painey's England career).
-
Don't mention St George it will only upset people. He wasn't remotely English.

Nothing wrong with being proud of your country, but it say "British" in my passport an I can't see anything wrong in that. The whole tribalism thing is a bit redundant now in the 21st century and you have to wonder what is going on in people's lives when they get so worked up about a name. We are all human beings and we all share the planet. The notion that you are somehow better than somone else by accident of geography should have died out with the defeat of National Socialism in Germany half way through the last century. The "English" bloodline comes from Germans, Scandanavians, Italians, French, Celts, Dutch, etc invaders and immigrants/invaders in the past - african and asian in more recent times. A person's identity should be defined by the type of person they are, not their postcode. Trust me, flying a white flag with a red cross on it outside your house makes you no better a human being than somone flying the stars and stripes outside theirs. Tribalism/nationalism has been one of the biggest causes of Man's inhumanity to Man since time began. Time to grow up and move forward. It is one thing to support a bunch of sportsmen who share a common geographical boundary, another to get wound up by what it says in your passport. And as for those kicking off about being English when they have made the choice to up sticks and move to another country....what's going on there?

It pains me to agree with you but yes, average so far but it is improving slowly.

This American team would get relegated form the Premiership.
